View Full Version : When I grow up...
I want to be like? Who are the examples in your life that you love for them being themselves?
Yasmina Rossi- for her long white/silver hair and gorgeous outlook on life. She is 60 and modelling WOOT WOOT!!!
Ines de La Fressange- her style is effortless but simple. And those long legs..well.. :)
Audrey Hepburn- she has always been my #1 influence in all I do in my life. Grace, poise, style, happiness, love...all words I think of when I see her picture.

Great question to ask! I am curious about the responses folks will give. :)
Daniel Suelo- Dude just really lives his values and is possibly one of the most ecologically-minded people on the planet.
Mark Boyle- This guy also really lives his values. His books entertain me and make me think.
Kurt Vonnegut- He was such a good, decent, and kind person. His books were/are like therapy for me.
Crazy Horse- For being a truly wild human
Jane Goodall came to mind, to completely dedicate you life to a cause when others havent seen the need yet. She must have been really radical to go to africa and start up a conservation effort for Chimps and primates in her early days. These beautiful primates are absolutely magnificent and should be seen for their compassion and intelligence.
Mother Theresa, to be a true follower of Christ literally leaving a good life behind and wandering to India with the last few dollars in her purse that was given to a beggar. She founded the order and so many others joined to help the poor and dying. Famous and rich people met with her.Yes we all should be empathetic to those worse off. Especially the mentally ill who are grossly neglected in the country and the world.
Dr. Kevorkian (I know it's strange)
I cant explain why he sticks out in my mind perhaps courage to start up the end of life question especially in America where eventually he was held accountable for his actions, serving time and so on, while in certain parts of Europe end of life struggle question has been resolved and made legal. Life is crazy! I just admire his courage in a ironic way.I cant just imagine living in complete end of life pain wanting to end it all- not an easy decision to make. It takes courage to face something like that.
Vincent Van Gogh, his commitment to his artistic expression. Again he was ahead of his time-now his artwork is millions of dollars! I do know his mental illness played a big part in his art. Because I remember having a big migraine headache and walking next to my Van Gogh calendar looking at his Purple Irises and they looked completely beautiful and different. Try it sometime.
Thanks for bringing up this interesting question, thats what came to mind, I now see that these people have one thing in common, courage to go against society, do something they believed in. And so they will always be remembered for who they were and how they lived.
Dr. Kevorkian
Excellent selection!
Ever read K-Von's little book called God Bless You Dr. Kevorkian?
St. Lawrence of Rome: During a dispute over religious liberty in the third century, the contemporary equivalent of the Justice Department decided to roast him to death on a large grate. His last words were reported to have been “Turn me over, I’m done on this side”.
Winston Churchill. In war: resolution. In defeat: defiance. In victory: magnanimity. In peace: good will.
William F. Buckley, Jr. Obviously.
E.O. Wilson. Arguably the most influential entomologist in modern history.
Luca Pacioli. Invented double-entry bookkeeping. One of those ideas that should have been obvious, but took a genius to work out.

An Alabama boy.
Thanks for the suggestion I will look into that. These are complex ethical questions that should be addressed, Also I noticed the "crazy" ones once we get to know more about them they arent so crazy anymore. Strange kind of wisdom. ( Fine line between Genius and Insanity).
An Alabama boy.
An Alabama childhood would be ideal for developing an interest in ants.

I think E.O. said it had something to do with his vision problems, originally.
E.O. is one of...one smart people to come out of Alabama.

If not, you need to get out more.

Alan: I was joking! Relax. I used to live in Alabama, so I got a right!

OK, too bad you didn't make the list. ;)

Very interesting, I wonder if one could bring on a migraine by standing under a blinking florescent tube light and get the same result, I'd love to see what he saw. I know blinking tube lights can cause seizures in some people. It's always so interesting to see how others view things when their reality is altered due to things like schizophrenia, migraines, drugs, etc.
