I am fascinated by this today, it seems to address things I deal with . I got compliments from my supervisor yesterday and I recognize that and her intent but then it spurred deep thoughts about why I hear good things and some of them are impactful and others fall flat. It is not the intention of the person so I take it at that, but our organization is asking how do we feel appreciated so the thought process started.

Here is one, I don't think I am difficult but heck other people seem to. I really think it is a misunderstanding and I have been working hard on my part so I am sharing this with my mentor. My first inclination is to share it with my supervisors but I am learning that is not the best idea to let my creative moments burst out like I have. https://hbr.org/2013/04/seven-rules-for-managing-creat/

And another one that is great, about why creative people are not seen as leaders http://www.quietrev.com/why-creative-people-are-rarely-seen-as-leaders/
I have already had a couple big positives for summer camp, one is a very strong personality staff person has gone out of her way to say she is excited to work with me, and she has worked with a lot of PS's. Another is that I have a 'problem child' staff, lots of family drama and not great communication. So I talked to her school year supervisor who is a friend of mine and she has been struggling all year with her. Well we had a planning day and I really needed her to work with her partner and write plans in a very specific area. She really took it on with lots of ideas and working with her group. She has to miss a couple days and I have a built in sub for all the vacations, so I told the 'problem staff' she needed to have the sub ready to go and she took it on. When I told my friend this she said she could learn from that and hold her to a higher standard during the school year. I think I will still have to watch her work carefully however.

I think we wait awhile to hear about our reviews so I am making a couple notes about what I want to say. Part of it is always how you want to be appreciated and what are your goals for the next year. So I think part of what is a gap is that I want to be noticed for the times I handle complex issues and show creative thought. Coming up with a new training, advertising, planning and pulling it off in a short amount of time totally re-energized me for summer, even though it was an additional task.
