So often people criticize the practice of minimalism.
And we minimalists say: "But it gives us the time and resources to focus so much more on what we really care about."
Recently I was asked by a secular organization in Central Ohio to lead two discussions. The topics they want me to talk about are:
Spiritual Atheism-Can an atheist be spiritual or are the two practices contradictory?
And...
The Culture of Offense (You know, all these college students whining about someone voicing an opinion they don't agree with and feeling that someone else talking about an idea abuses them, etc.)
Now, had I been a person whose schedule is stuffed to the gills with all sorts of busyness and obligations I'd probably have to turn this down.
But since I minimized the clutter in my schedule I can take the time to research these topics at a reasonable pace. I can use the time I need to put together cohesive presentations of these ideas. And I can take the time during a couple weeknights to lead these discussions for this organization. And no need to stress or hurry...
At times like these I am grateful to live a life of voluntary simplicity and to be able to focus on the things I care most about.
