View Full Version : Trying to see where it all comes from

So I started taking pics of everything I am bringing INTO the house.

Example: I bought groceries and put it all on the kitchen table and took a photo. It's interesting to analyze what I buy and think about why, especially when you see it in a picture.

I took a pic of everything that came into the house in 2 days. WOW!! I see where I have to work on things. Mail- the flyers, mailers, extra stuff I didn't sign up for. Going to spend some time culling that back.

I talked about my online shopping habit and how I am trying to break it but I did receive 1 more package. Just the packaging alone- the box, the protective wrap, the bubble wrap, the order form, the return form, tags and free samples/coupon...just in 1 box. OH MY!!!!

I picked up dinner last night- I asked for no extra silverwear, napkins, etc...still was a whole back of just packaging.

It's been an interesting study in where it all comes from. Next, I am going to take pics of my rooms and study them. I know- OCD but I am kinda a geek like that. LOL

Ugh, it is so depressing, the amount of wrapping and packaging that comes into our house.

OP, I wish you well enough n this project, it is interesting.

This past Christmas, I tried to reduce the amount of packaging on things. My son loves Legos and really, this is his only quest in life, so I don't mind purchasing them but them HUGE boxes for a small amount of Legos. I was breaking down the boxes and using them underneath paint cans when we were painting or as stepping mats when we had all the rain, to keep the mud and water down.

I am really looking at my impact on stuff, what comes in, goes out and how to reduce.

One of the reasons I like shopping at thrift stores is that the packaging is gone.

when dd and dsil registered for wedding gifts, they requested no gift wrap. It seems weird to have a pile of cardboard shipping boxes in my loft waiting for them to open, but the cardboard will go down for mulch and the air bubbles recycle.

recently dh bought one new shirts and brought them home on the hangers. I made him take the hangers back to the store.

What an interesting experiment!

Chicken lady - I was thinking the same thing about thrift stores the other day. I bought a bakers rack for my plants and was so glad there were no boxes or Styrofoam, and it was already assembled :)
