View Full Version : Getting Rid of Account
Ok..so...this is hard...but my spouse is now trying to find all my accounts and do some stupid stuff. All I have is this forum, YOUTUBE that I watch, Pinterest, and Instagram. The Pinterest and Instagram were easy to delete. I have nothing to hide and there is nothing there but I feel like I am being watched or something.
Can I delete my account on here completely? Logins and everything. I know I can't delete my posts. Thanks. I will be back when I feel safe. It's just bananas. :(

You CAN delete your posts yourself, and if I were you,
I might delete some of the more sensitive ones.
We won't delete entire threads where others have replied to your posts, though.
Can I delete my entire account? So it's like it does not exist. I know my posts will still be there...

SEND A PM TO ALAN. You can cancel the account and it will become something like guest status. Once done, the posts will no longer be searchable, and visitors can't view the profile, etc. (Mrs. M, Bunny's and a few other members have done this).
BUT and this is a strong BUT
DO THIS from another computer, IMHO (something like a library computer). If your going to be paranoid and have a reason to, then you don't know if he put keystroke software on your computer. (that way he will obtain passwords, and everything that you type, etc)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the information. After calming down and thinking straight, I am not going to delete my account. Simple living and all it entails on this forum, in my life..is who I am. I am not going to let someone make me paranoid over nothing that is there. So I may be a little quiet while I sort things out but I am going to stay and stand my ground. Thanks. :)
I'm sending good thoughts and peace to you.
This is very kind NSWEF..thank you.
I've been thinking about you and hoping things would go smoothly.

What do you mean calming down and thinking straight?
From memory, your husband is a police officer. That certainly means he has access to a computer forensics department of some kind. (what you have posted is already out there, in public view, forever) He may just be looking for evidence of an affair (not understanding the reason of the divorce, so those posts MIGHT be both beneficial and not helpful)
There are hardware and software keystroke loggers. Software ones can be defeated (example, using a bootable Linux Distro such as Ed Snowden used), hardware ones require a different machine.
Pardon me for wondering but seems like if you're going to divorce your spouse, you would be having that conversation with him so there wouldn't be any surprises for anyone.
I'd recommend getting a password vault like keepass. Download and install it on a USB drive. Then, Go to the library or other public computer to change all your passwords to random ones generated by the vault. Then you only need the vault password to gain access to your log in info for any account. As long as you keep the USB drive safe he won't have access to anything. Just copy and paste the password from the vault to log in to a web site so if he has installed a keystroke logger he won't get them.
Also,I'd recommend activating two factor authentication on every site that makes it available. For instance with my credit union it's not possible for me to log in without a random number that gets texted to my phone every time I want in.

That was my thinking, too. But what do I know--I've had zero experience with divorce.
