Why all the emerging hostility to cargo shorts? I think I've seen half a dozen articles in the last week or two.

They're comfortable and useful. What more can you ask from your pants?

I love cargo shorts, they're my three season uniform of the day, but my body seems to be rebelling. After reaching the age and level of leisure which produces a noticeable paunch, I'm finding that actually using the 'cargo' area of my shorts to hold useful items helps facilitate their gradual slide downwards and since the paunch seems to have more mass than the hips, who knows where that slide might end.

You ask what more can I ask? I'm thinking invisible suspenders.

I am indeed. We were wearing flannel shirts long before hipsters made them a nonconformist uniform.

I own two hats with ear flaps, and my favorite designer labels are Carhartt and Dickies.

No! Say it isnt so! We just bought a cute pair of cargo shorts for DH at Goodwill. I guess thats why they were there, out of fashion.

I do a few things where cargo shorts are very utilitarian and can ignore fashion. However, I will be glad when people start tucking in shirts again, especially t-shirts. And the low rider pants can definitely go. Thank goodness jumpsuits are out, although people say they were unusually comfy. Then there's sweats in public. People used to dress better.

I think it's a jealous reaction from the metrosexual skinny-jeans side of the fence.

Cargo shorts serve a very useful purpose. The people who roll their eyes about them seem also to be the first people who expect *me* to have a knife, or a flashlight, or a bandaid, or whatever other piece of equipment they need to "borrow".

We'll see who is laughing once the zombies rise...

Practicality beats fashion every time, IMO.

Gotta love these traumatic fashion discussions. Thanks for the chuckles.

Fashion discussions, Fanny Packs..never worn one in my life you know they have that look of "Old" lady. I ran for years and used the water bottle and phone holder waist pack. Now I am Nordic walking and running gear seemed kinda out of place, so I have a fanny pack....now I am old I guess. Oh and I love my LLBean shorts with all the pockets though they are not really cargo shorts.

I love my cargo shorts, have for the last 20 years! Do not care if they are a fashion faux paus, I can still find a great selection of them at the thrift store. So there, fashion police, I don't care one iota!

In the UK we use the term 'bum bag' instead of 'fanny pack'!

I like cargo shorts too. Why not? I like the look of the cargo kilts lots of guys are wearing, too.

Ishbel, are cargo kilts a thing in the UK?

I love those too, and wear them quite frequently.

I'll believe that my cargo shorts are out of fashion when my gay friends stop wearing them. Up until that point any screeching about them going out of style is just screeching from someone that doesn't like them. Even then I'll probably keep wearing them though because all those pockets are just too darn handy. And I'm not on the dating market so other people's opinions about my clothing choices don't mean too much to me. SO already knows that I don't give much of a flying fig about fashion but he's ok with that because he seems to think I have other redeeming qualities...

Tonight for dinner we had two gay men here wearing cargo shorts. But they are 6o+ years old, age is probably a factor. I told them that I had learned cargo shorts are out of fashion. Chuck was horrified,he just bought 12 pair.

I only own 3 pair, none of them new, so mine will wear out before Chuck's, but as durable as they are that will still probably be years from now. Chuck and I will be out of fashion together.

Hubby said it was good they were going out of style. He can then find them at the thrift stores.

Cargo shorts going out of style, as compared to what, those shorts from the 70's? I need and use pockets, and don't give a rat's, if someone thinks I am not fashionable. Certainly more useful then those high shorts that the pockets are down and empty, that I see woman wearing. A lot more useful except in generating looks/tips, then what a hooters waitress wears.

What is style?

My hubs wears cargo shorts almost every day...and his clip-on flip-phone. Sexxxxy!!!

He also still has a half-dozen Cosby sweaters from the 80s in his closet. They're like new!!

I think my husband looks sexy in his cargo shorts!
