View Full Version : Easy photo hosting for internet forum participation?
I figure one of y'all will have a clue about this:
Topic - photo hosting/uploading/linking for casual web conversations.
For years, I happily used Picasa Web Albums to upload photos from my iPhone (from the Camera Awesome app, which I used because it had image stabilization, and could upload to Picasa easily.).
Picasa nicely let me snag a link to the photo, in a variety of resolutions, and use the link to embed in web forums/posts trivially.
Well, The Google Borg bought Picasa, and have now gotten around to full assimilation into Google Photos, which sucks, as Google doesn't want to let you easily have a direct link to your photos, which doesn't work so well for embedding - they want to steer your audience to your Google Album page, which is useless. (There's a work-around hack, involving editing a 8-million-character-URL, but it is a pain in the ass.)
So, I'm looking for a light-weight, nearly feature-free photo hosting place that I can upload casual iPhone images to and snag links, so I can continue with my life without excessive grumpiness.
All help appreciated!

I use photo bucket too, but it is clumsy. I'm looking around for an app or something that will simplify this
I have my phone photos automatically saved in Google but getting them from google to elsewhere? I don't know.

I use photobucket, free version, but I don't love it and actually it has been years since I uploaded images there.

Okay, on my tablet:
Go to google photos
Click on your photo
Click on the Share icon (sort of like a fork
Select Get Link
Click on copy link.
I'd test it here, but this version of SLF doesn't give me the hypertext icon grrr.
I'll try on my laptop.

I tried all the suggestions on this page (https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/photos/TSi-VTdErRc/WQnkmyR9CQAJ).
So much for google photos.

Trying Amazon drive: https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/Y97DItgLH0WJ1vEnhFRs2EWmXaU4VjqMVjQTdqteL6H?v=grid&ref_=cd_ph_share_link_copy
Nope. I wonder if it because all Google and Amazon photos start with https://???

From Photobucket: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/readaboutit/Juliets%20statue_zpsq28vwdb2.jpg (http://s3.photobucket.com/user/readaboutit/media/Juliets%20statue_zpsq28vwdb2.jpg.html)
Okay, I get the extra [IMG] tags but I was able to drop and drag a photo from my desktop to photobucket. I could not move photos from Google or Amazon to Photobucket (unless I first save them to my computer.) Photobucket is full of ads and had a fishy pop-up that opened a new window too.
They say they have an app and maybe that is better.
I tried Snapfish, which I use to order prints, and you can't do it from there either.
There must be an engineer out there who can work this out. What I would like is my photos to automatically upload to the cloud (like Google photos). From there, I could edit photos, share photos (like photobucket) order prints (like snapfish) or print photos (like Windows and whatever they are calling their photo app these days) and organize photos and get rid of duplicates, and it would be fast and intuitive. And, no ads or pop-ups. With so many photos being taken, something like this should exist!
Right now I have duplicate photos on my phone, tablet, Amazon, Google, Snapfish, Photobucket, and a ton on my laptop. Not simple. Lots of clutter.
My phone has lots of options for sharing individual photos - texting, FB, Pinterest, email, etc. But you have to do them one at a time and it really is best for just sending a quick pic to someone. Seems like the same thing with Google.

Unfortunately, the last sites I was aware of, are all gone. All bought out and shut down.
Most that I know, are directly posting images, to the forums themselves. Some do recommend Photobucket, and I have wondered and did a very little reading about Dropbox and also wondered about self hosting with something like Owncloud.
That picture was certainly worth the wait, Gardenarian.
I'm looking forward to learning more.
I use iCloud for my photos and they are shared on both my phone and computer automatically. I'm not understanding what the question is perhaps in this thread - it seems easy and automated to me.
Correction - I never put photos here and perhaps that is the question. Because as I look around I see no easy way to do that.
This discussion board is built with old code though, right? I have no problems putting my photos anywhere else - FB, Twitter, Instagram, slack, etc. It seems to me that this forum is just older technology ...
Try Photobucket or Dropbox.
