I think this film deserves it's own thread, having to do with the conflicts involved in a life of extreme simplicity and self-sufficiency.

The story is about a family raising their kids in the wilderness, and what happens when the mother becomes critically ill. I thought it was a fascinating film - I have known homeschoolers who lived close to this kind of life, and it used to be kind of a dream of mine.

Has anyone else seen it? Viggo Mortensen is excellent, and the child actors all superb (though the movie is not without flaws.) I highly recommend it!

I just went off to read what it was about via the IMDB site. I didn't get that, from the one commercial I saw (think it was on Youtube). It sounded like a movie about a custody case, of the grandparents suing the parent.
That commercial turned me off of it, after just having a conversation with a friend, who lost their daughter a few years ago, and her husband, moved away and has never let the grandparents see their grandkid since she was two. (he remarried and moved closer to his current wife)

The trailer doesn't do justice to the movie. The custody thing is really very minor - it's the differences in values that are key.

It made me think about parenting, how we bring up our children within our own dreams.

I saw the trailer and based on it, I would love to see the movie.
