Argh, I am not sure I did these right and now I don't want to waste all my work! I wonder if I can get an alterations person to help me with this? I and going to keep trying and may even hand sew part of this to put the zipper in.

The good news is that the rest of the pants seem to be going great, the fabric is awesome, and if I can learn the fly zipper thing it will be my new favorite pattern.

I can so relate to this. I struggled and made DH some pants with a fly. He really struggled with how to gently not accept them as they looked homemade. I didn't have the money to have anyone fix them so they were donated. They say practice makes perfect in every thing one makes so don't give up as I did. I stick to simpler projects now.

I can do side zippers easier but I really wanted pockets compared to other pants. I am thinking about trying them on and then making it work with handsewing. The back yoke looks great on these pants,

I know that 'looks homemade' issue, I have one pair of pants that I am struggling with looking too homemade. I have another pair I mis-measured and just kept on re-sewing until they were better. I am also starting to think that although I want to sew my clothes in the 'save the world' mentality I should plan on buying more. I just don't wear the homemade stuff as much.

I had a co-worker who decided she wanted to sew something, so she made a Madras blazer and a pair of white tailored pants. :0! They were perfection. I was awestruck.
She had a tendency to tackle complicated tasks and finish them with aplomb, while I'd be dithering over fabric choices and end up with a pitiful pile of rags. She's currently dividing her time between photography and gallery-worthy collages. So I envy your willingness to persevere. I bet the final product will be handsome.
