I watched a movie called Room last night on DVD (from the library). It is a Canadian/Irish movie (no accents though) and is based on a book. Wow! I had never heard of this movie and almost put it back on the shelf. It is about a girl who is kidnapped and held in "Room" for many years. If you get a chance make sure to watch it (not suitable for young kids but I think older teenagers could handle it). The acting and stages are wonderful. Each word means something and you will love it. :)

Saw "Room" and really liked it. I think I've mentioned it here before, but that child actor was the best I've ever seen anywhere.

That book was the best book I read that year.

I was deeply skeptical that they would do,justice to the book in the film, but low, they did! It was a good movie.

I despised that book. It was so depressing and dreary and ugly. I saw no value in reading it, we had it for book club. I therefore did not go see the movie.

The movie (haven't read the book) has a lot of layers to make you think.

If that girl didn't get kidnapped, then her son would not have been born.

It makes you wonder how many missing people are being held in a room (basement, shed) somewhere.

Often hiding in plain sight but no one sees them.

It is always interesting how books stike us.

To me, Room was an optimistic story in how the mother fiercly protected her son and worked to keep him happy and engaged in hs tiny environment. In the second half of the story when she no longer has him as her total focus, she falls apart.

Whatbdidnt you like about the book? I did think the second half was a little hokey, but it had to go somewhere other than "they lived happily ever after post rug incident."

He was good and was robbed of an Osvar nomination. Wasnt last year the year where there were so many strong male performances that they had a hard time choosng among them?

What made her fall apart was the snarky interviewer who suggested that she should have somehow sent her son away from Room. The girl was a hostage and was 17 or 18 years ago during her pregnancy. She probably thought old Nick would kill the son if he could. Her son was what kept her alive.

I watched Philomena (Judi Dench is awesome as usual). The movie is based on real events and has a lot of twists and turns.

I had no idea that Jane Russel was involved in the Ireland adoption scams.

Watching this movie makes you realize how times have changed.
