Star Trek is 50 years old now and is getting its own postage stamp!

I love Star Trek (original shows and movies)

Who knew that such a little show could become so popular!:laff:

Since I turned 60 and Star Trek turned 50, my twin cousin and I - both Trekkies - made a pilgrimage to the future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk this summer to celebrate our own stardate milestone. It was marvelous, lol. May all fans, old and new, live long and prosper!

I am so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jealous! I was devastated when Leonard Nimoy left us.

Shatner is still with us though and is as cute as ever!

I have been picking up the DVDs from Enterprise at the library lately.

I am hoping they will get the other tv series so I can watch those. :)

Near Iowa City it is. We stumbled on it many yers ago when we were taking an Iowa City/Amana Colonies vacation.

Then a few years later, we stumbled onto Scottie's birthplace in Linlithgow, Scotland. We were staying in that town, there to see a royal palace of Mary, Queen of Scots. The town has a Star Trek museum honoring Scottie and it has artifacts from the show, including a tribble prop.

Somehow I missed out on Star Trek all through the years. I was born in 1961 but it just didn't enter my radar. A few months ago I decided to watch it all in the order that it was produced. I'm on the third season of the original series. The social and political commentary catches me the most.

I remember the very first episode I ever watched - I was jumping on the bed prior to bedtime and took a flying leap right onto my head :-( My mom was always really vigilant about that "don't let people who banged their head go to sleep" thing so I was lying on the couch probably later than I was ever up. I still remember it even though I think I was only 7.

My old college roommate was a big Star Trek fan. He eventually worked into a high profile job of some responsibility. To this day he can sometimes talk about some decision or problem at work and then pull a Kirk line from his memory that related to or helped the problem. Kirk was his role model. The original Star Trek had some good plot and character development, and often a socially relevant theme. It seems like as the generations of series and movies passed they became more and more Hollywood chase and shoot scifi dependent on glitzy graphics. Anymore, the old re-runs do seem awfully dated. Makes me wish I still had my flip phone.

If you have Amazon Prime, they have a number of the series.
