Oddity yesterday...

Lynnwood WA, dropped in to check out a pretty reasonable been-there-forever bricks-and-mortar gun store. Bought a Glock 43 (which works better with my tux) and a KelTec PMR30 (zombie raccoons). Place is full of elk-hunters getting ready for the season.

20-something fellow is doing up the paperwork on my purchases, he looks up, without missing a beat, and asks me if I identify now as male or female, and marks down the answer. Old guys behind the counter don't even break stride. Other customers didn't look up. (And, I mean, on a casual glance I appear to be a very bearded Neanderthal male, with more fur shooting out of my collar than most dudes have on their face, even my paws are furry...)

Wackiness. It was when he was working on one of the WA-state forms, I wonder what sort of instructions they got issued... I would have pried more, but I had to dash for the boat home.

Background check via the electronic system, warned to be "backed up today, will be 40-60 mins" took about 3 minutes for me, but I just cleared for the TSA pre-check system last week, and did some extra special paperwork for the big OSS-CIA formal event in DC which I am attending, so maybe I was already flagged as a Deplorable.

Took the Glock 43 and holster to my tailor to make sure it would all work right, need to look good but be prepared at this upcoming party - you can't *imagine* the paperwork required... :-)

Whether you believe we've defined deviancy down to the point of civilizational collapse or are entering a new era of enlightened tolerance, what use do the authorities have for the datum of which gender you feel like being this week?

maybe because gif the gun is registered and a crime gets committed with it, they have a place to start, they know John Smith said he identifies himself as a male. that's the only reason I can possibly imagine

I'm theorizing that he was simply filling out the M/F box on the form and having some "fun" with it.

Every time I've filled out the various forms by hand, they had race, ethnicity, gender, height, weight, eye color, and other such identifying datapoints.

Here's the Federal Form 4473:

And the WA State transfer form:

A few years back, there was some form locally, that had M/F/H on it. I figure at some point someone had to put Hermaphrodite.
