I wear my street clothes until I look like I live on the streets. haha

I have a half dozen black T shirts that I have been wearing everyday for like 3 years. They have holes, the armpits are permanently holding deodorant, and they have a faded and crummy look about them.

So I broke down and bought 4 new shirts. I bought them on the intarwebz so I did not have to grit my teeth at the local Target.

Part of me just regrets buying them! Another part of me says: "Dude, you offered a homeless guy $20 and he told you to keep it and go buy a new shirt."

Is there any shopping or purchases that you'd put off until the End of Days if you could?

I need a new winter coat. Went shopping yesterday and I found one I really liked and was ON SALE for $160!!! Went home without it. I should have bought it though ..... now I still have to go out looking and looking and looking. Hate it!

Ha!

I have totally done this.

I look around a store and just feel like "I GOTTA GET OUTTA HERE!"

So I leave without buying something I actually need. haha

That happened with my son, too! He was going through a grunge stage in high school. One day we went to the museum in NY. We were eating the sandwiches we brought with us outside the museum when a panhandler approached us, and then said to my son sarcastically, "Nice pants! I'm homeless and I look better than you!" I loved it because obviously as his mother I wasn't thrilled with the outfit, but we all have our childhood costumes we someday live to regret.

For me, I think furniture is the thing I put off the most. It's so expensive, and I can never determine if we really NEED it. I cover all the seating areas with throws or even sheets so they last longer and I won't have to get rid of them. We have a very tacky bedroom set--my MIL bought it for my son. It was supposed to be a very temporary set for his temporary living arrangements in Florida, but he wound up bringing home this cheap beige plastic-y veneer bedroom set and I needed more drawer space and I wanted a queen bed as opposed to the twin beds DH and I used because they had been handed down and I was too cheap to replace THOSE so we lived like Lucy and Desi (Maybe I would have had EIGHT kids if we had actually had a queen bed all those years).

So that was about 18 years ago, and we're still using it. It's still tacky but I'm not about to replace something that is still functional and no one really sees it except an occasional guest and my kids when they come for holidays.

Thrift store. Winter coat fashions dont change much. Avoid a wool coat so that you can wash and dry it in case of bed bugs.

Bed bugs are on almost anything in thrift stores now.

I remember the "Free Couch" era in college, before bed bugs. Man... you could just find a couch on the street in a college town and just take it home!

Oh, yeah! Done that, too. I had an emerald green wool winter coat with the 80s-style silhouette (boxy w/big shoulders) and I wore it until 2011. Right before I got rid of it I was down to only using it to walk the dog. I would never wear it to a business meeting. My DD helped me pick out a replacement on sale in Macy's, and I've worn that one ever since.

really I'm extreme with lots of it. I've worn clothes with holes to work, eh so what, they weren't big holes, small and not that notable probably. Life is too short to give a @#$# about those types of things.

I've had a fridge that has leaked for almost the entire 6 years I've had it. I'm finally getting a new one.

For most clothing items of mine, I know what fits, who makes it, and how to buy it online.

I wear almost entirely the same exact thing every day, with a very small selection of colors. I wear stuff until it gets too ratty, then onto the rag pile it goes. When I run low on any particular thing, I order up a batch with a click of a mouse the next time the vendor has a sale, and in a couple of days I am resupplied. I usually keep an unused spare or two, in case I absolutely-positively have to not look like a hill-dweller.

That said, I had to go down to Seattle a couple weeks ago to get measured for formal wear, because all the formal outfits I have are kilts, and the event I am attending next month wouldn't work so well for that. It was a nightmare, I don't own any other sort of suits/jackets/whatnot. Hopefully it'll last me the rest of my life and I won't have to repeat the torture.

In the early,90's I found some cool, or at least useful, furniture on the street. Most of it was fine. But then one winter night I brought home a cool chrome barstool with a red leatherette seat. About 15 minutes later a swarm of cockroaches started pouring out of it... shortly after that it was back on the street.

Went to Burlington Coat Factory and found a different color coat by the same maker (a few inches shorter) for less than $95. I love it! This is the first coat I have bought new in many years. I looked at thrift stores and decided enough was enough. I am sick of looking. I deserve a new coat!

I've been avoiding fall/spring and winter jackets since i gained 70 lbs. I don't want to give in to a big purchase that is hard to find in my size, I swear I'll just get through one more winter and lose wt. I'd go around wearing the too small jackets unzipped. Last year I found a wool coat for $60. But I could really use a warm down parka. I just broke down and bought a fleece so I have something for now. I never pay more than $20 for any article of clothing and that used to include jackets and coats. Now they don't go on sale that cheap, at least not in my size.

I had a go to black work dress that could be dressed up or down and fit me perfectly. It somehow got bleach on it in spots so I colored it in with a sharpie, totally obvious, I wore it anyways.

I bought one at Walmart for around $40 and it is plus size. I hated spending that much but my oldest one is ripped, and a newer one's zipper broke. I need a heavy coat unfortunatley - my lightweight jackets aren't enough.

I paid more because it was down. It is REALLY cold here.

3 of the shirts arrived. All black. One has an atheist symbol, another actually says "Atheist" on it. And the third one has a pic of Carl Sagan on it and it says in red letters: "Hail Sagan!" haha

My girlfriend was none too pleased.

I am going to throw away a few of my old black t shirts now, especially since they have golf ball sized holes in the armpits. lol
