This is interesting and I have been saying this would happen. My voter friends tell me I should vote for Hillary so that we can get a moderate on the supreme court rather than a right-wing crazy.

But my thought was that, like the article says, the GOP would just go on blocking for 4 years. What's to stop them?

So now I do not have this supreme court issue weight on my shoulders come election day. haha

And then what happens? There are very elderly members of this court, so it's likely it will dwindle to 7, then 6 ... Just a disgrace.

Although word is that Merrick Garland will get in over the recess.

If Clinton is elected and the democrats gain control of the Senate, which I'm reading is better than a 50/50 chance, Clinton may have her way with the supreme court and a few other things Obama has been blocked on.

I think if Congress refuses to do its job, to the point where we no longer have a functional judicial branch, then the constitutional compact that the states made is dissolved....

I'm definitely voting straight Democrat this election. I'm tired of having someone else's religion shoved up my you-know-what!

If something is against your religion, don't get in a situation where you need to deal with it. Otherwise, let the rest of us make and live with our own decisions. :-)

So apparently all this "let the voters decide" stuff was just delay and smoke?

I thnk the delay is stupid and I dont buy any justification for it. Especially since we all know that once a candidate for the supreme court is put forth there will be weeks of hearings and loud posturing from the idiot politicians we sent to D.C. It is not as though confirmation will be a fast process.

All of this said, the single reason I would vote for Trump is because he would likely appoint candidates to the Supreme Court seats that are more conservative than Hillary's picks. BUt cha never know with The Donald, and then ya never know what they will do,once they get on the court.

Still mourning Justice Robert's decision that the ACA penality is a tax not an unconstitutional fee for service, and he was supposed to be the good guy.

I agree. Hold hearings, then Bork them or not depending on their record and responses. It's not the Senate's "job" to rubber stamp every nominee sent their way. But it is their job to advise and consent.

So - the Presidential Inauguration I guess is organized by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. What if they decide to not do that, either?

Then we are no longer the USA.

I will not lose any sleep if the karmic wheel of justice provides a black feminist lesbian criminal defense lawyer as President Clinton's nomination. The clowns should have give Merrick Garland a hearing.
