I just created the google doc, now I just need to teach my mom how to use google docs. She is in her 70's but totally willing to learn new things. She already has a song and is buying the CD though.

My 50th is in less than a month. My mom and sister are coming out to throw me a party! That is kinda amazing, I have shared often about my alone-ness issues. I do have a few friends to invite too. When we first started talking about my birthday I realized I don't need anything and that I connect to people around music. So I came up with a 50 songs for 50 years project. Everyone can suggest a song for my birthday play list. Only rule is no Clash, that is too simple. It can be anything you think of when you think of me. I don't even need to like the song. (If anyone here wants the link to the google doc PM me).

Of course now I am thinking about music, listened to Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. OMG, watch the video too. Powerful. Old Rolling Stones, Minutemen, Leonard Cohen, Bob Marley, recently got back into Sublime, and the amazing cover by Disturbed of Sound of Silence.

My b-day is about 3 weeks out, I think it is a good time to send the invite. And I will be collecting these on i-tunes so for gifts maybe people can do an i-tunes gift card because I do pay for music.

I am bumping my own thread, I made actually a google form. I am just getting into those and they are super useful! I am using them for event sign ups through work since it automatically creates a spreadsheet of responses.

In any case if you want to contribute a song to my project, the ultimate simple birthday project, please message me and I will send you the link to the form!!

For 2014, I like Al Yankovic's Word Crimes. His Tacky is good, too.

So you want to Rock the Casbah, but don't want to hear that, AND you want us to come up with a playlist, that should be personal music of your life? (things with memories associated with them)
You could start with a song around when you were born, like the Last train to Clarksville, or the Poor side of town, or you could go back about nine months to Petula Clark and My Love, etc.

Good ideas, I don't really know those songs but I bet there is something from 1966. I put this out to friends and family and some co-workers so I should get plenty of songs. Just offer something if you feel the urge.

And that I know most of the words to most of them! (I'm a bit week on Wild Thing, and I think I only know the chorus to Can't Hurry Love.)
