Hi there
I need to move a few more things out of my house so I am challenging myself and anyone who want to join
to get rid of 5 things a day.
Mine as of November 2 are...
---1 pair of Garden Crocks that were unsafe and damaging to my feet...garbage
---1 Bag of Silk Sunflowers and 1 Vase to a group that are using then for centre pieces at a luncheon.
---1 Bunch of Silk Daffodils to a...charity
---3 pair of underwear...That just needed to go...
---6 Tea towels to the Rag Bag.
---2 Planters that were broken
That is a total of 18 items and that is all for now....

You can read the Marie Kondo threads for more inspiration but you are doing a great job!

Welcome back, Danna - I thought this thread was going to be about eating more produce! :)

LOL...Rosarugosa it does sound like I want to eat more veggies.....and I did that too yesterday and I guess I should have added it in on
November frugals.

Sandy I have read Marie Kondo and she is a little over the top for me but, I love her take on decluttering ones life.
My problem is one of being too good a shopper (couponing etc.)/yard saler/thrift shopper. Also, I live alone now and
will want to downsize at some point so better to keep things down now.

Over the past couple of days, I put more books in the "to go" pile.

Today I recycled some old papers, two phone books and a plastic container, and brought a mug to work to donate to the general office kitchen.

On Friday and Saturday, I threw out some random papers, plastic bags from gardening soil (DH just dragged them around the side of the house but I tossed them), put more books in the book donation pile. I also took an old expired package of edemame beans and put them outside for the squirrels. They were gone this morning!!

Five more books today, plus a corresponding number of bookmarks.

I'm so glad you are doing this and I love when people keep a list. Hard to believe that it's been almost a year since I finished my 100 items a month challenge for all of 2015. I was looking around the other day wondering if I was brave enough to do another round in 2017.

I put at least six items in the recycling bin today. Tomorrow I will take another bag of books to the public library.

Put five items of clothing in a bag last night to go to the Salvation Army. This morning threw out several containers of old makeup.
On the downside, I accidentally threw out my unactivated debit card.

News flash! Spouse found new debit card on the kitchen table. No doubt in a pile of papers that need to be gone through.

Whew!!

I am so proud of myself! I took the aforementioned bags of clothing, plus a bag of birthday gifts I didn't like much, plus at least six pairs of shoes to the Salvation Army. Sometimes it takes me a while to get the stuff out of the house.

I also went to the car wash and spent $4.50 vacuuming the interior of my car. Not perfect, but way better than it was. :)

Today I went through four binders of papers and a big stack of them, and I shredded some and am taking the rest to work to recycle.

Giving away more books!

Some of them are arts & crafts books, which makes me feel a little sad. I just wasn't using them, or doing the crafts anymore. It's so odd, how one can change. When I bought these, I thought I couldn't live without them.

...and...More books!

I am surprising myself. I always thought I could NEVER get rid of my books. But I am asking myself, "Will I ever read this again?" and "does it have sentimental value" and "can I find it easily in a library?" with each one.

Nov. 16--dropped off more books at the library.
Nov. 17--1 broken nightlight, 1 string of faux pearls that lost their lustre, a pair of shoes with broken soles, 2 plastic containers, 4 foil pie pans (I don't even recall where they came from or why we were keeping them). It was hard to toss the shoes as they were still somewhat comfortable. But they had huge wide cracks in the soles.

They don't make 'em like they used to!!

At one point in time we gave away 40 boxes of books. I think sometimes that books can be the hardest to let go.

frugalone
11-17-16, 2:20pm
Yes, it is hard. But I'm beginning to realize 1) I'll never read some of these again; 2) I have no clue why I bought them in the first place (because they were there, perhaps?); 3) Someone gave them to me and I thought I'd get around to them someday; and 4) Some of these are about hobbies I no longer have an interest in.

I just LOVE owning books. I'm just not sure I want to haul them to a new house, dust them, etc. Support your local library!

It's garbage night. I just shredded and tossed a bunch of papers, put some clothes and misc. items in a box for the charity store, put some old tote bags and purses together, and added to it a lovely handmade doll a friend gave me when I graduated from college in 2001. It's such a lovely doll; I'm sure some little girl will love it!

Only bad part: I began to cry while going through desk drawers. I have a file folder with keepsakes from when I worked at a newspaper. It was the best job I ever had. I saved the cards my coworkers gave me when I graduated, some articles, a few funny things I had on my bulletin board. Time to call it a night, I think.

11-18-16, 7:54pm
A coat I never liked, a bag I'm no longer using, an envelope maker (craft item) that never lived up to its potential, some magazines, two necklaces I never wear. All are going to the charity store.

Cleared off a three-shelf bookshelf and took a lot of paper to work to recycle. Tossed a couple of notebooks. Put more books in the donate pile.

On to to the larger bookshelf, where I took about 3/4 of the cookbooks on there and put them in the donate box. I'm hoping the public library can add them to their collection; they are brand new, never used.

11-21-16, 3:11pm
Brought some books to work today. At least one was taken by a coworker; the others are under consideration. If she doesn't want them I will donate them.
Also tossed a book in the trash. I used to use pages from old books in my collages but I haven't been doing that sort of work. There is also never a shortage of old books around.

frugalone
11-22-16, 11:24am
More books...are you seeing a trend here? ;)

Also tossed a piece of junk mail I found taped to the wall in my kitchen. It was from 2008 and was addressed to a deceased neighbor. Spouse must have found it amusing or something. All the neighbor had to do was send in $19.95 and she'd be able to claim the MILLIONS she'd won...

I loaded up the back of the car today with two boxes of clothes and books, a couple of tote bags containing jewelry I didn't want, the doll I mentioned, some old shoes. Drove down to Sally's and back. Took me 20 minutes. Back to clearing the bookshelves, I guess.

Thank you, danna.

Today I threw out a bunch of old term papers from when I was in college, plus early drafts of short stories (why did I keep all my drafts?). I also donated several books to the library that relate to local history. Tossed some broken jewelry into the trash, too.

11-29-16, 3:26pm
