View Full Version : Cubs win!
108 year dry spell broken. Holy cow! Holy crap!
Here's to Ron Santo, Harry Caray, Ernie Banks (Mr Cub)!
It's going to be a hard winter! Hades has officially frozen over!:0!:D
Yes, quite a game! I stayed up until almost midnight to watch it but then went to bed. Heard that a downpour came between the tie score in the 10th inning and the win.
Very poetic! The deluge that ended the Cubs drought. Good for them.

That is great for Chicago! Even though I think we are supposed to hate the Cubs here in St. Louis, how can we begrudge them a series win after 108 years? Yeah, you guys can have a win, oh, about every 108 years, we need a rest from winnng.
Very gracious, IL! LOL.

I did not have a big favorite, but what a game and a great series.
I grew up on the Cubs. I was delighted to see them win their first Championship since the invention of sliced bread. But I have to admit that I'll miss the perverse bragging rights that come from passing the century mark without winning a title.
I watched the last three or four innings. It reportedly was a cliff-hanger series, and the last game was fittingly a nail-biter. Good for the Cubs.

My nails are gone!
Another reason I went to bed. When the game tied and it looked like extra innings, I couldn't stand the thought of Chapman blowing it (just from pure fatigue). So I saved my nails and went to bed.

Growing up an hour from Chicago my Dad loved his Cubbies. We watched the last half and very exciting.

Based on this, I am predicting a Johnson landslide next week.

That could very well be. Most of 2016 seems to have borne the marks of divine chastisement. Evil Clown sightings all over the land, especially in campaigns for high office. Idolaters so depraved they take Lena Dunham or Kanye West and his bride seriously. Cell phones spontaneously combusting. Exotic new plagues. Tyrants and madmen smirking and capering all over the globe unchecked. Institutions of higher learning gibbering insanely about the need to quash ideas too frightening to contemplate.
And now we see the natural order of baseball disrupted in the most shocking fashion.
I say unto you, we must repent.

Not sure about that, but it was discussed in a great WP Kinsella short story -- "The last pennant before Armageddon."
Worth it for Game 7 of the series, though.

Repent!?!?
I was hoping to have another couple of decades to sin first!

I don't watch sports, but I did watch a good chunk of game seven, because of Cub connections. One thing I did laugh at, was someone on another forum (hobby related), mentioned that it was a good thing that Pontiac was no longer made, or the car of the game might have been a GTO (goat is its nickname), that would start the next 108 years.
I must say it was the most entertainment I have had watching a sporting event, since the Harlem Globetrotters as a kid. I could fall asleep at most sporting events.

Many of my ancestors are as well. A priest friend of mine once told me that being a Cubs fan was like a high school AP class in that it cut down on your time in Purgatory.
