View Full Version : who is really at the 'buddy bench'

If you are not in schools you may not know about the buddy bench. It is a bench at the playground that kids can sit at if they are playing alone or want a friend. The idea is that someone can notice if you are at the buddy bench and join you.
I have wonderful caring thoughtful mostly buddhist friends who are saying that they don't hate people who disagree, and they want to work on coming together as a country, and we should all consider this. However the people who 'won' are not sitting on the buddy bench? I don't know if they want all of us liberal types to come out and make friends with them now. Really when you win the ball is in your court, if my candidate won it would be up to me to be sensitive and aware that a lot of people were upset. Maybe reassure people I disagree with that I am not out to take away all guns (which I did after Obama's wins). So it really is in their court to tell us if they agree with the scary hateful stuff. I honestly don't know. But my activism does not need to be grounded in hate, I really don't feel hate. It is really someone else's projection that the only way to do activism is with hate or extreme anger. I have too much work to do to get bogged down in hate.
Bottom line is that there are a lot of people on the buddy bench right now, they are the ones I am paying attention to. If you won then celebrate your win, if you use your win to hurt people I will stand in your way.

I didnt vote for either one of them, so obviously didnt care who won.
My brand of "reassurance" isn't anything that will speak to you, Zoe, since everything the shivering masses are thinking and feeling seems to me to be sheer projection ("scary hateful stuff")
I woild just offer the idea that as the federal government grows and inserts itself more and more into our daily lives, I find that unsettling. So perhaps our common ground is to work toward a world where the guy in the White House doesnt much matter to our lives. If you all stop looking to him as saviour, I think the flip side is that you wont have to see him as The Beast.
And think about the REaL victims of this election, like my poor, poor brother who has to eat worms. A life long Republican who was a Never Trumper, he said he would eat worms or crow if Trump was elected. Now he is searching the web for a recipe for tasty worms, he has determined that to be preferable to dead crow.
See? There just seems to be no damned humor in this world of Trump victims. My brother is the only sign of levity in their world. We are all looking forward to his worm performance.

Perhaps this has been suggested but many international grocers sell dried, seasoned mealworms. I ate them. They are not bad. I also ate a packet of dried and salted crickets. Also not horrible. But... not good either!

Also on reassurance, I wont offer empty words. If, for instance, your students are here illegally, yes, they are subject to deportation. Will that happen? Unlikely. If their parent figure is a known criminal, their chances of being deported increase.
i think more resources will be funneled toward that social problem.

SomeOne DID suggest the mealworms. My brother thinks he is obligated to consume real, live, earth worms, however. I have begged him to livestream it!

IL I have no problem with a smaller federal government. I think one thing coming out of this is the sense we need to take care of ourselves. To me that may be very different than others. However in my world and with my connections I am hearing that hate and violence is erupting in schools, mostly people thinking it is okay to tell people they will be deported, some girls being grabbed in the crotch, even in my school. So I have to pay attention to that, it is my job to take care of these kids and schools are still under the rules to provide a fair educational opportunity for all.
I do feel bad about the worm thing though, there is a children's book about eating worms that is pretty funny and may have some recipes!

Do you have a non buddy bench for those who want to sit alone?

Eating a nightcrawler won't hurt you. I'd wash it off first though. And tell him to just eat one! One is enough!
In my college days I ate night crawlers on a bet. Fired them in oil sort of like a french fry. Alcohol wasn't involved, but might come in handy. I ate a couple but one is recommended serving size.

Did you dip them in an egg wash and roll them in seasoned flour?

No, but that's not a bad idea:).

Good point. But the "buddy benches" would be called "chairs." :)
