View Full Version : How to stop bleeding ...

Decided to make the Thanksgiving turkey today and have leftovers tomorrow and just goof off. Well, while cutting the meat off the turkey carcas the knife slipped and cut a deep gash into my finger. I could not get it to stop bleeding. Tried yarrow tincture... nothing ... tried some EXTRA HOT cayenne I purchased while near the Mexican border. That did it.... sprinkled it on my BLEEDING finger and the blood stopped. It still hurt like the dickens. I waited a while and put on Papaw and a bandage .... the pain receded and will look at it tomorrow to see how it is doing.
I have burned myself before and have had many cuts, scrapes, bug bites and my go-to is Papaw (made from fermented papaya). I recently scalded my hand and it was beet red and hurt terribly. I put on Papaw and the redness went away immediately and it didn't hurt and there was no indication that I had ever been burned. I just ordered Lucas' Papaw to give to my herb group as Christmas gifts. My DH says this stuff is a miracle in a tube. Hopefully, this will help my cut heal too.

I buy Lucas' Papaw (usually from New Zealand) but can be purchased at Amazon.

Tis the season for cooking accidents...
I was folding foil to tent over my pumpkin pie crust. I ran my hand down the edge, and sliced through my index finger on my dominant hand. It bled a long time, with dh saying he'd go get the super glue if it didn't stop. Today it's not bleeding, but the edges are open. Might take him up on the glue....
I sliced into my fingertip sometime ago and at the advice of friends reluctantly went the doctor, who took a few stitches. Looking back it was probably the right thing to do to have it heal properly. The nice thing about a good sharp kitchen knife is that it makes a nice clean cut that tends to mend easily.

Update.. the finger is healing nicely and does not hurt... surprisingly. So thankful it is my left hand.
Great, I have had some good ones that ached for a long time. My funniest one was when i was barefoot in the kitchen and dropped a knife and it stuck straight up out of my foot. It wasn't deep so it was more funny than anything. I wear at least slippers now.
Has anyone tried liquid bandage on a cut like this? One that is under some pressure to pull apart rather than on another part of the body? I know my ex had a bad cut on his thumb, When I put pressure on it then it slowed down but as soon as I let go it spurted. So 5 stitches was the answer but I wondered if glue works on a cut like that.
spider webs! When harvesting grapes once, I sliced into my palm. Very dramatic! Blood was literally spurting out of the gash, which ran almost from side to side. There was a bunch of spider web in the vine, so I grabbed it and slapped it on. The bleeding stopped almost instantly, and within minutes the pain had receded. The wound looked disgusting, as blood clotted into the web and I had a huge black mess across my palm. After a couple of days, it started flaking off. I can't even see the scar any more. Never any swelling or redness.
I did it just out of reflex, having read that spiderwebs have been used for controlling bleeding, for thousands of years. I was a bit worried, because the webs were dusty. After the incident, I read up on webs, and found that they're rich in an antibiotic called arachnicillin. Hmm, I should collect some nice clean webs and keep them in a closed jar in case of another bad cut.

it depends, if the cut is too deep then you need to go to the doctor because it might need a few stitches.

A few days ago I burned the roof of my mouth. It really hurt! I put PawPaw inside on the roof of my mouth when I went to bed. The next morning there was no indication that I ever burned my mouth. ETA Gave a tube to a friend and she commented that she has used it for a number of things as well and is AS enamored and shocked by how well PawPaw works. One of the best products for a variety of ailments!!!!!!
