I ordered something for my granddaughter for Christmas and it was never delivered to me. It is three weeks overdue, according to tracking, as it was supposed to be delivered 12/9.

Amazon turned over the shipment to USPS, and it is still with them. I filed a missing package claim with USPS, but I don't have much hope; you can imagine the sheer number of those types of claims and the mountains of packaging they deal with.

So Amazon just gets to keep my money? I will probably never hear from USPS again, and trying to get my money back from them seems like futility, and probably not worth the hassle. But still...sheesh.

Next time I intend to use Amazon Locker. My kids from TX have a lost package from me, too....but it shows it was delivered at the same time others from me arrived.

This is the first time I've had problems with delivery. More people are shopping online now, so I guess the associated losses will increase too.

If Amazon failed to deliver and they have your money, then you need to complain directly to Amazon, not USPS. It is easy for them to refund your money.

They just sent a shipment of cod liver oil for my dog and it leaked all over the package. I contacted them and they refunded the cost.

Just contact them and say what you are saying here, and they will give you back your money.

Items have failed to appear here now-and-then. Amazon has issued me a refund when I pressed the right button on their web page, which sometimes took some looking around to find.

Bae, yes, it is not easy to find a "my package has not arrived, I want my $$ back" button. All things point to "we've handed this off to USPS." Amazon did not deliver this to me directly, but through USPS, who had the package last.

Was the item bought FROM Amazon, or THROUGH Amazon (where a seller has a store)?
That is one item of note, another is how did you pay for it? This is where you could complain to your credit card company, and they reverse the charge.
Depending on how it was sent through the post office, some items require proof of delivery, which is why they might have handed it off, waiting for the post office to bring that record to them.

I have noticed that the packaging with amazon has gotten really sloppy. I ordered some glasses and half arrived cracked. They had been thrown in a huge box with something else so no wonder. I emailed customer service and received credit sight unseen for the ones that were broken. I don't feel entirely confident ordering things anymore. Also, there are porch pirates everywhere now stealing packages so you have to take that into consideration.

I ordered an Instant Pot to be delivered to a post office near my DD's home where I was going for Christmas. When I arrived there, I simply showed the tracking and notice of delivery email to the postal staff, some ID with my home address and took the gift package to my daughter and SonIL's home. I was delighted with the service as the package was too heavy/awkward for me to transport on the train with my suitcase.

I have heard of the problem with 'porch pirates' so didn't want it simply dropped off at their home.

However, what happens when the postal service doesn't follow through on the delivery despite a tracking email as happened to the OP? Please keep us posted on the final resolution when it happens.

People are getting wise to the porch pirates. I've moved to a PO box after a couple of mailbox thefts (in a rather obscure neighborhood--maybe it's a local perp), and friends of mine use Amazon lockers (which have fanciful names like Brasilia). Instead of "get off my lawn," I should be shaking my cane and yelling "Get off my porch." I surprised one creep who was actually leaning over a small table--no doubt to snatch it--when I approached the door. Could only see his silhouette, but it took me aback. This used to be an absolutely crime-free zone. That's a good idea having packages sent to the local PO. Thanks, Razz. (And I hope your daughter loves her IP; many of us are fans.)

I read about someone who, since porch pirates were active in their area, boxed up their recycling, magazines and the sort, and left it on their porch. Yep, it got stolen. They put the county jail for the return address.

If it's lost at the post office, I have experience with the post office turning up such missing packages before, so no I don't at all share your bleak assessment of it being found at the post office. I think it has a decent likelihood of being found if it's lost there. Now if someone actually stole it off your porch, clearly the post office can't help with that. And if it's just some 3rd party selling something through Amazon (say a used book) then some of the 3rd parties are untrustworthy (very very few in my experience, the vast majority are good, but it's happened - a few frauds out there).

If you just want your money back try Amazon or could try putting a charge back on your credit card especially if it was actually buying from some 3rd party through Amazon as Amazon itself I'd trust 100% with purchases, 3rd parties only like 90% (I never use debit cards for these type of things for precisely all these reasons - need to chargeback sometimes).

Ha! When I worked nights, I had two large Nordstrom bags full of newspapers (headed for the recyclers) stolen out of my car. Saved me some time...

Last week I did a dailey stint of mobile patrol in an attempt to see our local package thieves n actin. One f our neighbors with a camera on ner fr Nt stoop placed a decoy package ere, but no takers that day.

Ridiculous USPS person leaned a package foe us aganst our fence. It sat right in the sidewalk. Doh. But in her fabor, perhaps she saw one of our dogs out in the yard and did not want to enconter a bulldog up close and personal. But she has als been placing ng packages again ndt the fence of our neighbor, and twice I escorted their packages onto their porch, hidden from the street.
