So I have this burning thing in my left hip, it radiates and my leg from the hip to the knee often hurts. It even comes up at night but it does come up when I meditate. I know that on retreats we do yoga in order to sit longer and more comfortably, so I guess I am ready to actually do it. I have a friend here who does a restorative class on Saturday nights which is great, no rushing after work which means I might actually do it! And it is not like I have a social life on Saturday nights anyway. The more athletic yoga does not sound like fun to me, I do not want an exercise class honestly. Just something that will get me to my goal of meditating on the floor, on a cushion, until I am 90. :~)

Look up yoga with Adriene on youtube, she's very good and there is a 31 day beginners programme on at the moment.

One type of yoga that is specifically geared towards being able to sit longer in meditation is Svaroopa. Its harder to find classes, as they don't have "big names" or do a lot of "branding" like other varieties of yoga. The focus is primarily on releasing the spine - and when the spine is relaxed often other parts of the body relax as well.

Thank you, I will look for that type of yoga, I think restorative would be the closest for now. I do want to go to a class and be around real live people! Maybe use the youtube to keep up with it.

At the insistence of my daughter :-), I'm going through this now. Good so far.

I've just done day 4, have to say it's my wrists that suffer more than anything!

Funny I have been checking out the Man Flow Yoga online - DW and I turn 60 this year and I am just not flexible anymore. Would
like to know some basics before I humiliate my self in a class!

I am going to look for some DVDs - no classes in my rinky dinky town and only 2 gyms that are outrageously priced and will probably close for that reason. You can sit in a chair and do yoga. Also, PBS may have some shows on yoga.

Mine is muscle cramping - a class I had been attending for years stopped, I've been without a regular class for a while. And I can feel it. A lot of things are not moving the way they used to. Yet :-)

If you roll up a towel and position it so the heels of your hands are on it, it can help. If you use a blanket for your knees like she did today, you can position it so the heels of your hands are on that.

If anyone is using an iPad - "Yoga Studio" by Gaim is a great app.

Peggy Cappy has some yoga DVDs for newbies, folks with bad backs, seniors, etc. She's on some PBS stations, too.
