I agree that treating the animals better is important, but I hate seeing the humans losing their jobs.

I wonder where the animals will go after the circus closes.

Ringling Brothers is a part of American history!

Having been to circuses when a child and enjoying the magic of the show, it seems a little sad but the shows that are now presented are so over the top in spectacular effects, I am sure circuses have lost their novelty. There were many issues involved but for me it was the magic of a circus.
Wonder what will happen to the Shriners' Circus? Anyone been to one lately?

I would rather go to an old fashioned one ring circus where everyone sat close to the ring and the only animals were dogs and horses. I saw one in Denmark and it was lovely. Did not even have to know the language to enjoy the show.

I didnt even like those Ringling circuses when I was a kid, let alone now.

We have an artistic circus based here in St Louis, it is ine of the small one ring European style shows. It is an acquired taste, but I do like it a lot. We have Wallendas based here, they fly.

We had Zeppo's family circus come through here, and a friend who took her little grandson said it was great.

What shocking news. Hard to take this in.
I am interested in circus history--if anyone has visited the Circus Museum in Baraboo, you are lucky--they also have a one ring circus in the summers.
I also discovered recently that my husband's grandfather and great-grandfather were working circus musicians in the 30's and 40's, and have been trying to do research on some of their circuses, such as Bell Brothers in Fl.

So, in a few years, no one will know what a circus is anymore. Sad and makes me feel old. It seems like they could have adapted to using more human performers like Cirque d'soleil does.

Most circus animals can't go to zoos or back into the wild.

I have a bad feeling about what will happen to the animals, so I hope the protesters can provide a solution for that problem since they helped to create it.

I do make contributions regularly to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. they took in Flora who was the elephant from our local circus.

Few people ever asked what happened to the male elephant calves born or where the old, tired, or even slightly aggressive cats went. They all just want to see a show. Background is meaningless.

How can I run away and join the circus now? I was kind of hoping to keep that option open.

My cousin joined the circus! Back around 1996 she and a friend joined Ringling Bros. as dancers and also rode the elephants into the ring. They lived on the train. Now she works for Cirque d'Soleil in Vegas; she was a wardrobe person for their O show. Then she got in at the start of the Michael Jackson show and does something backstage there.

The only circus I've ever gone to was a small one that came to my town when I was little. It creeped me out a bit and I felt sorry for the animals.
