View Full Version : Mary Tyler Moore
Died today, what a legacy. She had diabetes for many years and that had definitely affected her health. She was 80.
That's really a bummer! I really liked her for the roles she played in TV and the big screen. Possibly one of my favorite actresses from the era.

I loved MTM. I'd watch her show for hours as a kid, every few years I binge watch it

I am taking this celebrity death really hard. I always liked and respected Mary Tyler Moore - to me she had so much grace and class. I respect her also for her charity work after her time as a leading lady was over - she helped pass legislation to end the practice of boiling lobsters alive and she was active in animal rights activism from about 1972 onwards. We will not see the likes of her again any time soon methinks. Just a great lady. Rob
PS Came back to add that one of my favorite all time movies starred both her and George Peppard. What's So Bad About Feeling Good? is the name of the movie, from 1968. MTM signed a contract with one of the movie studios at the time and did a few movies from between the end of The Dick Van Dyke Show to the start of the Mary Tyler Moore Show. She never really took off as a movie star and seemed to find her niche with quality comedies - but she also addressed some fairly risque situations and issues for a 1970's sitcom and paved the way for sitcoms like One Day At A Time to later tackle even heavier issues from the mid 70's onward.
