View Full Version : Costochondritis? Pinched nerve?
I've developed a pain in my left breast that goes back to my left scapula. It's not cardiac, and my recent mammogram and chest Xray were normal.
Would costochondritis feel like that? I do have IBS and GERD, so maybe it's referred pain from there. I do have pretty bad osteoarthritis. Don't want to go to the doc just yet. I have so many pains all the time, I'd be there every week if I ran to them the minute I had pain.
Just curious if any of you have had costochondritis, or esophageal/gastric pain that acted like this.
Thanks.

when my gall bladder blew, the pain was in the back of my left shoulder, radiating around to the front
Sounds similar to my gall bladder pain. If you still have your GB, see if the docs can schedule an ultrasound over an invasive procedure.
I have had costochondritis for ages, and it often feels just as you describe.
Thanks all. freshstart......so you didn't have any right-sided pain with your GB?
How do you know it's not cardiac?

I was taking to my dad about when this happened and he said my pain was on the right, so now I just don't remember. It was a bad day, I had just found out my husband had been having a 2 yr affair. I ate my first dove bar ever and shortly after got GB pain. I had an appt with a divorce lawyer the next day. So I went into the ER saying I already knew it was my GB, could they please take it out and let me go home tomorrow? lol. The resident was certain that wasn't it and hated that I had diagnosed myself but after the tests and I saw the surgeon, they said it was GB. But it was infected so I had to wait 2 weeks to have it out. I'll never forget that day!
I hope you start feeling better
Sorry about that bad time for you, freshstart. When it rains, it pours, right?
Tammy.....I have IBS and have had similar things in the past. This time, it's more in one place. I've been tested in the past for various symptoms (EKGs/enzymes/stress echo, etc.) and it's always been normal. I think my first doc to see will be the GI doc, but it might take a couple months to get into see him. I can always go to the E.R. if it gets worse. I swear, things haven't been the same since I took Cipro for diverticulitis. It did funky things to me. Afterwards I found out what an awful drug it is and wished I'd never taken it. My body is always having some problem, so I've learned to go slowly and see if it subsides before I spend tons of money and have all sorts of tests. I have fibromyalgia, which has been a real challenge. I also seem to have spells of gastroparesis......so this may be that too. I've been to too many incompetent docs........so I'm very hesitant.
Ok - just wanted to be sure you had a cardiac workup at some point. Good luck with recovering ...
Thanks Tammy.
I'm so tired of having this body! Even as a child, I seemed to have too many problems. Fibromyalgia (whatever THAT turns out to be) is so very hard to deal with. So many pains set off all kinds of alarms. Then how to respond to those alarms? Then there's the problem with many docs ordering too many tests, and being totally oblivious to the body as a whole, and focus solely on their specialty. Then there's the problem of many docs not believing in some things.......like Leaky Gut, which I am totally beginning to believe in. I can't believe a GI doc (or any other, for that matter) EVER ask what kind of food we eat.
Oh well.......I'm just going to hang in there for a little while longer and see if this goes away.......which is common with my fibromyalgia. Hopefully, it's not diverticulitis again and I'll have to take antibiotics that will cause other problems. At least I don't have my appendix anymore. haha (BUT.....my bowels changed for the worst after that was taken out......maybe another example of the medical community not appreciating the importance of everything in us and not assuming it must be taken out, instead of trying something else). Sorry for the whine, but I'm bummed.
