Some of it is pretty good. Last night they had Trump as a litigant against the 3 appeals court judges on The People's Court. His main witness was Putin.
McCarthy's impersonation of Spicer was good too.
I'm sure a couple of you will find this stuff offensive, but I need to laugh over some of this, to try to counterbalance all the distress I'm feeling on a daily basis about this country.

I thought Melissa McCarthy's bit as Spicer was hilarious! I watched it several times.

I dont actually watch SNL, that would be tedious. I wait for the good stuff to come out and rise to the top, then I watch it on youtube.

Yeah, I quit watching it for a long time. The stuff just isn't very good anymore. But....I couldn't resist hearing about the political stuff and watched it.

SNL was funny in the mid-70's-80's but is way too political for me now. I am at capacity with politics and just don't get the funny in political satire.

I love political satire.. love it. I remember the first time I saw the Capitol Steps perform live--they're hilarious.

SNL's best work is its political humor. I loved Dana Carvey's George H. W. Bush, Phil Hartman's Clinton, Will Ferrell's George Bush, Tina Fey's Sarah Palin. Brilliant.

Yes, this year has been a bumper crop of material for them, and I think they have risen to the challenge--Alec Baldwin is great, Kate McKinnon was fantastic, and even surprisingly touching in her last bit as Hillary, when she sang Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.

Loving Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer.

I have a question about McCarthy's Sean Spicer.........she keeps doing chewing gum stuff. Did Spicer actually chew gum at one of his press conferences?
The skit about Conway was a little over the top though.
Kate McKinnon is the best one on SNL. She can morph into anyone......from Justin Bieber to Elizabeth Warren and nail it.

Supposedly Spicer chews 20 pieces of gum per day and swallows them all.

I agree. The first one was better and the second one just got more out-of-control. I did sort of like the electric riding podium though. :~)

Did he bring that up at a press conference? Maybe he's a bit short-tempered because he's obstructed? haha

Yes, the riding podium was funny, as was the hawking of Ivanka's product line.

I know some people are upset, but SN:L has made fun of every president over the years. You don't need to work that hard to make this funny right now.

I am waiting for punk to take off again as well

Yes, I agree, there have been SNL skits mocking presidents since Nixon. I can appreciate a fun skit to a point. I like chocolate cake but too much chocolate cake makes me sick and that is where I am with most anything political right now. Bring back ‘Two Wild and Crazy Guys‘, ‘The Church Lady, ‘Chee-burger, Chee-burger, Chee-burger‘, ‘We Are From France‘, ‘Knock-Knock. Who’s There? Ah, Candygram‘. Okay, so I am showing my age but those skits were funny without belittling anyone.

I've never been a fan of SNL- tended to watch it when I heard about a funny character, but had to wade through so much that I didn't like that I just quit. I felt the Kelly C. was a bit too much. I'm not good with ugly.

The Conway sketch was shameful. Violence against women much?

These skits made fun of church ladies and greek diner owners, but sure, not specific people.

SNL has always paroded specific people as well as types of personalities, religions, ethnicity, and careers. Eddie Murphy's most memorable skits parodied James Brown and Mr. Rogers.

Hans and Frans actually reminded me of DH's cousin from Switzerland who was a body builder and who talked like Hanz and Franz. And also talked like Ahhhhnold.

Bring back ‘Two Wild and Crazy Guys‘, ‘

I worked at NBC when SNL debuted. (shameless namedrop alert: I actually typed up Gilda Radner's and Chevy Chase's SNL contracts--my boss was the unit manager on the show). Tickets were EXTREMELY hard to come by in the early days--even for NBC employees. My boss, a VP, happened to have a couple of extra tickets he wasn't going to use, so he asked me if I wanted them. I called my then-fiancee DH and asked him if he wanted to go. He asked "Who's the host?"

I said, "Steve Martin??"

He replied, "Never heard of him. Let's play cards with Dom and Debbie this weekend"

We gave away the tickets and we have NEVER forgotten our missed opportunity to have seen the "wild and crazy guys" sketch in person.

The Conway sketch was shameful.

I stayed up to watch SNL for the first time in many years. I agree that the Conway skit was tasteless and not funny. Baldwin is a hoot but from now on I'll just watch the videos the next day. I was a big fan back in the Belushi, Akroid, Jane, and Bill Murray days and can still chuckle over the older re-runs but the new skits mostly don't strike me as funny. I guess times change and so do we. I'm still glad they've found a popular niche to lampoon DJT.

I wonder if we watched the same video.

I thought it was only a little bit funny, the idea of parodying Fatal Attraction and tying that to Kelliann Conway's lust for the media spotlight, but that was a great idea.

All of the "violence" and threats were carried out by Kelliann herself. She was the raging, crazy she ne one with the knife.

I really do not understand your comment.

Ask yourself, why is a powerful woman political figure portrayed as insane, hypersexualized, and murderous.

Why is it okay to show a public official as throwing a knife at a journalist, and then okay to celebrate her being pushed out a window to her death.

She did not get pushed out the window, she fell. But that is a minor point.

Public figures open themselves up to ridicule. It is ok to make fun of them. She is no special delicate snowflake. Neither is she All Women. She is one woman in a prominent position who makes a lot of people mad.

How is it different making fun of Sean Spicer as a dingbat with a simmerng ill temper ready to break out in violence any different in your mind, or is it? Is it that the subject wore a suit?

What kind of political satire on tv is ok with you? What are the boundaries of how public figures may be portrayed? Surely you dont think they must always be treated with respect in any situation, in any case. SNL is silly comedy show, for gods sake.

I am incredulous that you consider this violence against Women.

Note that I am not arguing whether or not this is funny because humor is subjective.

A New York Timess reporter called Melanie Trump a "hooker. " Now THAT is disrespectful to a female public figure to the point of mention and public shaming of that reporter. It is the NEw York Times, not a silly comedy show like SNL.

However, the reporter did not print "hooker" and he said it conversationally, if I understand the circumstances. So lets all move on. It was wrong, NYT reporter stupid, what else is new, move on.

Yes, I explained why, so we obviously see things differently. Incredulity-- I guess you are frequently surprised by the viewpoints of others.
