I always clear history and remove tracking caches. Now, I am getting databases that will not let me remove them. WTH.... I have a Mac and use Safari. Anyone else irritated by this?

What sorts of things are remaining persistent?

Ebay, Walgreens, CitiCard plus another database.

Are we talking cookies here, not databases?

Cookies are easy to delete.... databases not so much.

I guess I don't understand what you mean by "databases" in this context.

Regular cookies are easy to delete, persistent ones, not so much.
Buy Ebay, Walgreens, Citicard, etc. then as their owner, you own and can do what you like with the databases, that reside on their servers.

So how do you get the databases off? It is easy to remove cookies or caches but the databases stay even when you say to remove all?????

Instead of saying cache or cookie under the name it says database. They stay on even when you delete all or try to delete individually.

Do you have an example of the filenames? And where these files live on your computer?

See above. When you clean out the cache of cookies they are listed there as databases and cannot be deleted.

I think some of us are having problems understanding exactly what it is you're trying to delete, at least I am. I'm thinking these are probably temporary files similar to cookies which are used to correctly re-connect to remote databases.

Based on the assumption that these files are collected and stored by your browser, it might be helpful to know which browser and operating system you're using. If your browsers automated cache clearing utility doesn't do the job, it will probably require a manual cleaning which will vary based upon the system in use.

See original post. There are multiple versions of the Mac operating system. The most current is version 10.12.
Same with Safari, I believe the most current version is 10.1.
Procedures may vary depending on version.

Of course, a Google search of 'How to remove database cache on Mac OS xxxx and Safari version xxxx' might be of more help to you.

Already tried googling. DH called Apple and he didn't understand so guess I will call them too.

I don't use Safari, but I did this search:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+to+remove+databases+from+safari

And got:

http://www.howapple.com/question/36496

http://www.addictivetips.com/ios/how-to-delete-website-specific-data-from-safari-on-ios/

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2352737

Some of those are for mobile devices.

Does Safari have a private browsing mode? Maybe that would keep the databases out?

You could also use a VPN so at least the sites couldn't ID your computer.
