Sun, baking soda, fabric softener sheets, are all things I have heard of. Probably a few more but it would probably depend on how bad or what it was from.

also plain charcoal and newspaper are things I've heard of to use. If you wear the same pair of shoes daily it's recommended to replace every 3-6 mts! (seems excessive to me). I store off season shoes with a few dryer sheets but I don't have sweaty feet and rotate what I wear so I get a couple years out of each pair of shoes.

I only wear the same pair of shoes once a week max. The culprits have been sitting in the sun with some baking soda in them based on the above suggestions. They are not summer shoes so I will just let them sit and if they are not better by fall try something else. Thanks.

ridiculous. another one of those consumerist nonsense advice like constantly replacing mattresses (no but do replace them if they are so falling apart they cause pain though). It is true if you wear a pare of shoes every day it won't last years and years, it tends to wear out in maybe a year, out of sheer wear and tear. I guess if one has very sweaty feet they might need to replace every 3-6 months, but as blanket advice its useless but it gets people to buy more stuff right? I don't have very sweaty feet, but I kind of attribute it to often being barefoot (yea I've had all the other downsides of this, having to remove glass in my feet and so on), and even when I'm not barefoot often without socks (maybe a dry hot climate also helps). Yes my feet would be nudists if they could.
