The NYT kills me. Yes, they did manage to choke out a positive headline story about job creation being Better than expected, but they dont let us forget that

* the recession officially ended 8 years ago ( The Annoited One, Barack Obama, was in office and dont you forget that!)

* jobs in construction and other industries they deem key didnt grow very much and wages arent growing much

* Europe is better, it has job training provrams that the U.S. doesnt have, we are just lackinf as always, we arent European

there are many other points in his article, wonder what ya'll will get out of it?

Personally,
I agree with this assessment:

"Stock Market at all time high, unemployment at lowest level in years (wages will start going up) and our base has never been stronger!
---Domald Trump

---Domald TrumpI personally appreciate the job the NYT has done, IL. Probably this does not surprise you at this point....LOL. I see it this way - not everyone has the cajones to brutally and cold bloodedly comparison shop their citizenship at a very young age as I did and not everyone, when confronted with heinous and callous disregard for human life, human rights, and human dignity as I have been in this country, is going to have the courage to point the finger back at America and never forgive or forget. At least the NYT speaks of how much better life is for the majority in Western Europe.....a message that desperately needs to be heard and underscored for those middle class and above in America as one's financial status in the United States can change in the blink of an eye. I say more power to the NYT for getting some reality out there - though I do this myself in my everyday life in whatever ways I can.....

I am of the opinion that the NYT deserves some respect - even if they called the Hillary win wrong last fall (and they sure did, I will give you this here and now). At least they are putting some good into the world by (much more mildly than I would EVER do) lightly comparison shopping American against Western Europe for those who have managed to dodge the bullets of turbo charged capitalism raining down in America each and every day. BRAVO! But your mileage is going to vary here a great deal, IL, and I respect that you are not going to see things this way or agree with my points. My advice to all who take this stance - consider yourselves extremely lucky and NEVER take this for granted - don't expect this condition in your life to last to the next day. Rob

About your ending Trump quote, as seen from the realities of life in the 85006: It is true the stock market has been doing well, VERY WELL in fact, of late. Now for the reality of the 85006: The stock market truly no longer trades on economic fundamentals and these high valuations are way above historical averages and are begging for a correction, especially since as I said the market today is not trading on economic fundamentals but instead speculation.

As to the job market - record numbers of men are turning their backs on employment, google this, it's becoming a national epidemic. Also I remember reading recently that over 7 million people are still stuck in part jobs that would prefer full time but they can't find it, and underemployment is still running rampant. Also, good look finding work if you are over 50 and/or have been out of work for 6 months or more - it's like you are coated in radioactive materials if these last two attributes apply to you.

As to Mr. Trump's base - and on this one I don't know what to believe, I'll give you this IL as on this issue I'm not sure the MSM can be trusted. But supposedly more and more of the non-rabid of his base are decamping.....not so much becoming liberals all of a sudden but withdrawing support for Trump and becoming Independents. I believe it will be interesting to see how both parties fare in the 2018 elections.......Rob

My DIL is from Poland and they lack jobs. Many have emigrated to other countries for work. My DIL was a high school teacher and made little $ there. She continued to live with her parents out of economic need. My kids may eventually retire there because it is cheap to live. Rob: this is off topic but the Polish President bused in a bunch of people so it would look like thousands of people wanted to hear him and Trump talk. He is as well liked in Poland as Trump is here:~).

This post reminds me of an old newspaper joke:

The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country.

The Washington Post is read by the people who think they run the country.

The New York Times is read by the people who think they ought to run the country.

The San Francisco Examiner is read by the people who aren’t clear on which country they live in.

The Miami Herald is read by the people who run other countries, but need to check the baseball scores.

The Boston Globe is read by the people whose great-grandparents ran the country.

I love the Times, especially the editorial section. It can be so silly and smug as to defy parody. Their position on the filibuster "evolves" every time control of the Senate changes. And the readers' comments are so exquisitely arrogant and parochial, you have to wonder if some right-wing troll is making them up. I also like the Sunday crossword.

It seemed like a relatively objective article to me. I have read NYT articles that have made me wince at their left-leaning, but this was not one of them.

I think many, but not all of the news articles would be better if they just left out the Trump tweets.

Oh it wasnt awful, just pieces of it struck my funnybone. What is presented is accurate. What they chose to present reveals the bias.
