Well on the 2nd day of school this is officially the worst start of a school year i have ever had. My staff with all the issues didnit make it Monday, she had to take 3 buses and missed the first one. Then she didn't follow up and tell me. I know she had a court thing today, her husband called. They apparently cuffed her and took her into custody for 30 days. They also do not allowher medication despite her Drs concerns. I actually do have empathy after all.

I got the call when my new sup was at site. I had called to ask if we could talk about some things i needed to learn for this year. Yeah we talked about them, mostly he needs to learn a lot. I know he is a nice guy, but part of the meeting was that i got an official write up. What an awesome way to start the year! I did something late, it is black and white, i just signed it. Then he wanted to spend a long time trying to figure out how to help me. It just ended making me feel even more defective. All the things i needed from him he needs to go research and learn, so the idea i can get help from him so nothing is ever late again doesn't seem likely.

And the fridge broke the first day. I have spent hours dealing with the rules and procedures to get a new one. Still don't have the computer battery,

So 3 staff gone in under a month, brutal. I think i can keep the doors open.

Zoe, I am sorry.

as for your new sup, all I can think is "we're from the government. We're here to help."

is is the staff member in jail now fired, or will she be returning?

I have no idea, i contacted our hr most senior person. This is the most complicated situation i have ever had. She needs to get legal people involved, maybe just put her on leave and we will see if she is in any shape to work when she gets out. Last night it kinda hit me, as frustrated as i have been with her i still care.

Last week i did peruse some jobs, didn't see anything in my range. Some things possible if i had more specific experience that i would get in a promoted position. Lots of jobs like what i supervise.

I say look at both of the out of range, similar, and unrelated in different field. So sorry this is happening, but definitely a good idea to look elsewhere.

It is not just that i made a mistake and i am cringing, but things like my coworker who faced a writeup if she missed a meeting while she was officially on vacation, and the encouragement to not do too much of things that are really some of my favorite things, and a few other red flags that continue despite the change in upper admin.

I cried talking to my mom last night, i am just an artist/teacher at heart. I try,

I hear you. Please keep looking at other opportunities, I just know there is something better out there for you, hugs.

What kind of things do you need from him? When I first read the above I assumed it was technical help or guidance through the maze of administrative rules that he should help you with, but now I am not so sure that is the help you meant.

Is this a public school? Private schools often have less bureaucracy. Or maybe a nonprofit afterschool program? I taught in a public school for 1 1/2 years and have never wanted to work in the public sector again.

Iris it is navigating the maze,i want to put in additional programs above what my grant pays for and i have never charged. So can they pay with a card, how to process the money through the system, what if i have staff that should be paid from that income and how is it accounted for. He has never had a site with that structure, and i want to learn and grow while providing expanded services every year.

The one thing i needed proofed today he never got to so he justbsaid he trusted me. Everyone in our main office is out subbing at short staffed sites, top director included. I do all registrations using google forms so i can edit immediately anyway, i sent the link out by my school deadline.

It is likely this will be like my first grant hybrid year, i went to who i needed to and sought out help and then just kept my sup informed. The first 2 years of that i a lot

Reading all your work posts over the years I get so frustrated for you. It's so clear that you work incredibly hard to do the best for your students, yet there's always something outside your control whacking you down. Your ability to bounce back and keep at it is inspiring.

I agree with the suggestions of looking at other options. Not that I think you should go into full-on job search mode. Maybe there's nothing better in your salary range and areas of interest, but you'll never know if you don't at least keep your eyes open. Because of the nature of my job/skills I get calls/linked in messages from headhunters at least once a week. I'm not really looking to move. Compared to you my job is a cakewalk. But I always talk to everyone who reaches out because one never knows. Maybe the perfect job with better pay/easier goals/less bureaucratic struggle (mega-corps have their own version of this) will just land in my lap. It hasn't happened yet, but it absolutely won't unless I keep talking to everyone that's looking for someone.

I would love to get calls or have people reach out to me. Just wow, maybe it isn't as cool as it sounds.

I am going into a deep self searching process actually, i want to see some roots of self sabotage for one thing. Not a quick and easy process. I also want to develop bow to express what i am capable of, the real strengths i have seem to lie in very soft areas. Tricky to capture and easy to take for granted.

There is a conference my department paid for me to attend last year that just came in my email today. Last year it was awesome to be the one going. I got to network, but my resume is just not there to make a switch with a living wage based on my information. Lots of people doing low salary or internship type work in our field.
