View Full Version : Give it a 100 Challenge - October
Look at us in a new month!
Congratulations on 28, Chicken Lady!
As predicted, my work schedule is starting to get really intense, so I've missed some days. But I finally completed Day 30 today.
I sort of have made my first bench mark. I wanted to complete 28 times by September 30, which I did. But I also set some goals for some long writing sessions: to have 10 one-hour sessions and 2 two-hour sessions completed by then, and I didn't accomplish that. My goal overall in the 100 days is to do at least 30 one-hour sessions and at least 10 two-hour sessions, and to let the other 60 times just be 30-minute sessions. But so far, I've only done four one-hour sessions, and it's hard for me to imagine squeezing in more of those any time soon.
But, like many of the rest of you, I'm trying not to be a perfectionist and to keep my goals realistic. So I've decided that just getting myself to write 100 times even in short sessions is a big step forward, so my priority is just to accomplish that. So I think I'll just do that and then plan on "tacking on" the longer writing sessions at the end of the 100 times if I have to, in December and January when I will have more time.
Onward!
Yay! I was thinking about you this morning EJ and how you accomplished submitting a writing. A
great result of your 30 min. or more each time! I finished day 14 of 6000 steps or more and although the attic is not being done we have used the wonderful weather to get outside jobs done- painting the big shed-still in progress and some brick moving to improve drainage around the house. One must be flexible. For September I did not have a single day of less than 4000 steps and only 3 of those- a big improvement. I am going to stick with this thanks to the support and reading of what others are doing.
Wow, new month already. Congrats to everyone!
Yesterday was day 11 for both low-carb and workouts. I made an effort to get my workouts caught up with my low-carb days so that I can track together and I finally got there.
Great job, Nswef and Geila!

Ejchase.....how do you force yourself to write? For me, it is either there or not. No use trying if I ain’t feelin it.
Williamsmith, I have to force myself - just like with cleaning, exercising, boring errands. Though I do sometimes get inspired by reading.

I understanding the inspiration by reading.....it is amazing some of the writing that is out there.

Last night was 29.
it occurs to me that I have never gone to bed with the new kitchen messy. One of my biggest issues with keeping up with my house is that while I would love to have “everything in it’s place”, i don’t have “a place for everything.”
i got to design this new kitchen. So far, it has a place for everything.
What a great realization CL. Rewarding, too, to know your plan is working. Day 15 for me on 6000 steps.
Yes, what a great feeling that must be, CL.
Yay on 29 for CL and 15 for nswf!
Day 12 for low-carb and workouts.

Geila, you are doing great!
i am up to 30. I almost went to bed without cleaning up the new kitchen last night because the mess wasn’t bad, but then I reminded myself that “never” is not recoverable and put away the 5 things left out.
Day 13 completed.
Congrats on day 30, CL!!! Nswef - congrats on the steps! It would be kind of fun to see how many miles that equals to.
It's so nice to log on here and see everyone's accomplishments. This thread cheers me up everyday.

32.
Yay, a 14 for Geila and 32 for Cl. Up to 17 for me on the steps. The shed is finished being painted, one more to do then back to the attic goal.
Day 15 completed. Yesterday I was bummed because I made the mistake of weighing myself at the gym and I had gained about half a pound as of Monday. What the heck? And I was like, forget it, I'm just going to eat all the carbs then. But I didn't. This is why I threw out my home scale. Now I need to stay away from the one at the gym. It's so weird how such a small thing can be so emotionally charged.
Anywho, I'll keep plugging along.
Congrats to CL on 32 and nswef on 17 and the painting of the sheds! It must be nice to get those big projects done.
Geila, You should be so proud of stopping that give up feeling. You felt it, but decided to just keep going! That's worth 2 stars. So now BOTH sheds are finished! I have two doors to do the outside trim- only about 15 minutes of brush work and I have a few other white trim things to do at the same time while I have the brush out, so that's tomorrow. It's supposed to rain Monday and Tuesday so I can do some attic then. Thanks for the encouragement. I think of writing this and it gets me to take a few more steps and do a few more things.
Thanks nswef - being the glutton for punishment that I am, I weighed myself again today. I can't help it! :|( The scale is right there on the way to the pool. >8) Anyway, now it seem I lost 2 lbs in one day. Crazy thing.
A big congrats on your two finished sheds!!! You should post pics so we can admire your handiwork. :D
Hey, I really enjoy the support on this thread, but I might take a break for a bit. It seems I'm rubbing people the wrong way. But I will be cheering you on in spirit! And thanks for the support and encouragement you've given me. :thankyou:

geila, I have no idea what you’re talking about about rubbing people the wrong way.

Yay Cl. I've one 18 step days.

Today is day 35.
Nswef, you are doing great! (I want to make “step” puns, but I don’t want you to think I am putting down your effort, so I am not)
Feel free to make step jokes...I am a slow and steady worker.

10-10-17, 9:26pm
And you’ll get there, one step at a time. ;)
36.
I hope Geila returns. Day 19 on steps. As for the attic...we worked on the basement and the garage, so my feeling is maybe I need to say decluttering and straightening non living spaces. so, day 12 on that and much more than 15 minutes.
Cl, is the kitchen getting easier and more of a routine now?
Chicken lady
10-12-17, 7:47am
Well, it’s a whole new kitchen. Keeping up with the new kitchen is pretty simple, but i’m letting the “scullery” (old kitchen) go. Mostly because the main point of this was to improve my mornings. Last night I didn’t bother to clean up because it was only a few items, but then this morning I realized I had left the old sink full of dishes and I needed to wash eggs for breakfast, and the new farm sink doesn’t work well for that.
Cl, Sounds as if your routines are being adjusted to make things easier. I think it's always a work in progress. Adjusting as we go. Are your mornings easier with the new kitchen?

Last night was 37.
my mornings are easier with a *clean* kitchen.
Day 20 for steps! Good for you CL on 37!
Hi Everybody,
Very exciting and inspiring to see everyone's progress and tenacity. I just completed Day 35. I've slipped a bit, though, the past couple of weeks and won't make my next benchmark of hitting Day 40 by October 15 (Sunday). So I'm just hoping I can be really consistent for the next three weeks and catch up by the next benchmark, which is to hit Day 50 by October 31st.
But I'm also reminding myself that if I don't hit 100 by January 15, it's not the end of the world. The point is to just get to 100 eventually!
EJ, That's great to get to 35 and plan to get to 50 by the end of the month, but realizing, too, that the little steps may be moved. I'm on day 21 of 6000 or more steps. Good going! I do find this thread inspiring just to keep me on track.

Hey all,
everybody seems to to be making good progress. I am going to have to drop this thread because I am starting to see it reinforce unhealthy perfectionist tendencies and make cleaning up the kitchen too high of a priority in my life.
i have developed good habits in relation to the new kitchen space, so that has been helpful, but it is time for me to let go of the “keeping score”.
the rest of you, carry on!
We'll miss you Chicken Lady, but I totally get it!
I've completed 37 so far. Good job, nswef, on the steps!
Cl, I understand your need to not keep score! I'm on 23 of my steps...keeping score for myself. Ej, your weekend of grading essays is exciting and doing the 15 minute thing. I'm amazed what 15 minutes can do. No attic, garage or basement this week, but the groundhog problem has been deterred! I know I'll get back to the decluttering...
Nswef, congrats on 23!
I hit 41 today.
Day 28 of 6000 steps or more!
That's fantastic, nswef!
I've completed 46 days of writing.
Go us!
EJ that's great! This has helped me stay focused. Day 31, but what excites me is that I've had 6 days this month of at least 10 minutes steady walking-the pedometer calls it aerobic as long as it is 10 min. in a row. The aerobic ranged from 847-3648 steps.
That's fantastic, nswef! This is helping me stay focused too.
I've completed 48 days of writing.
48 days is a LOT of writing. Bravo to you. I am on 32 of 6000 steps and made myself do the extra 300 last evening to push it over to 6000. Not hard, but often will skip it. Plus I see on the other thread you are having to change to electronic grading. Ummm- such fun to have new technology!
Day 13 of decluttering- took 15 minutes before I had to leave for book club and got rid of 4 grocery bags of fabric, books and clothes that were on a cupboard shelf!
