I think it is a fair question that most of us can answer.
-The string of good books I have been reading
-My well-behaved snuggler of a pup
-As usual, health insurance
-Califa Almond milk
-A cold La Croix on my lunch break
Your turn!

Health, free time, and enough money to do what I choose to do.
Athleisure and pajamas, which I gave been reveling in for 3 days. They will be part of what I like most about retirement.

I am jealous!
Today - Seeing a snow capped Pike's Peak on my afternoon walk earlier, DH cooking dinner, and that I am safe and warm and not suffering through fires and hurricanes.
Grateful and surprised I made it through the day with no snafus.
Grateful to be able to go to bed soon.
Grateful for the really fun Uber driver who drove me to the airport hotel in Orange County.
At the moment I'm most grateful for the opportunity to move to the next stage in life. I think I'll retire in the spring, after annual bonuses are dispersed.
The realization that I can do this and still be financially secure for the rest of my life makes me more than grateful, I think the right word is blessed.

The more I read about struggling seniors the more grateful I am that I made the right choice in employment and investments.
I'm grateful for the glorious fall weather and the bags of spring bulbs that I have been planting.
I'm grateful that we had the health (and our parents were holding with theirs) so that we could take our recent trip and keep my fingers crossed our luck holds to go on another at the end of the month.
We were just saying today how very fortunate we feel about where we are.

Someone being prepared and at the right place at the right time. The ability of some to not panic in a situation, CPR.

Good health. I just received the results from tests for my annual physical and all came back good. No medications and physically active at 60. Yup, good health.....so far.

I’m grateful for freedom....whenever, wherever and by whomever it is found.
I was born in the place I would have chosen to people I would have chosen, had I been asked. When I see how much baggage so many people carry around, that makes me grateful in the extreme. Life is more gift than burden.
My child gives every indication of developing into a better person than me.
Much like Alan, I have accumulated the wherewithal to approach retirement as a period of possibilities rather than deprivation.
I have the freedom to mock whatever I want to with impunity.
I have had the opportunities to suffer just enough to appreciate the good stuff.
I am grateful for Scotland and their wonderful distillers.
I am grateful for William F. Buckley, Junior. For John Cheever. For Marvel Comics (at least pre-1970). For Coleman Hawkins. For Philip Larkin. For Southside Johnny and the Ashbury Jukes. For Patrick O'Brien. For General Tso's Chicken. For the internal combustion engine. For our nuclear deterrent. For our fault-tolerant system of government and my fault-tolerant wife. For a benevolent deity.
But most of all, I am grateful for Jay's Barbecue Potato Chips.

Erm--does this mean you won't be carrying the rest of us anymore? I'll have to shuffle my resources. :0!
I love retirement; I bet you will too.

I'll still claim enough income to pay my way, but not enough to continue those rental payments some folks claim as their birthright. I feel so much freer already, and for that opportunity I am truly grateful.

I have a friend whose company called him up one day a few weeks ago and announced that his services were no longer necessary--surprise! 40 years, no sheet cake, no gold watch, nothing. Fortunately, he's set financially, and is looking forward to the next adventure.

alan, that is great that you will retire soon. Do you have traveling plans? I am grateful for my family, great friends, health, 3 doggies, a p.t. job that I love, and the money and ability to travel.
alan, that is great that you will retire soon. Do you have traveling plans? I plan to travel each/every/all summer as my wife will continue to teach for a few more years. My only plans for the remainder of each year is to go to bed early and sleep late.

I love not having to set an alarm. I never make an appointment before 10. slowly my dogs have learned to let me sleep in later. We are now up to 8 am. I also can stay up late if I want to. Traveling during the summer sounds great Alan. I hope your wife can join you soon.
I hope your wife can join you soon.
She actually retired 15 years ago, then eventually began volunteering at a local elementary school working with autistic children. The volunteer position eventually became a full-time job working with children from kindergarten through 5th grade. She loves it too much to stop anytime soon. She's actively trying to convince me that I should volunteer there in retirement, and I'm considering it.

I am just grateful that while having a bad cold for the second time this year I don't have to justify my feeling bad and staying in bed in my pjs for two solid days to anyone. I know I will get over it and don't need a doctor's note for anyone.
I am also grateful that hubby has Amazon Prime hooked up and I can watch all the youtube videos I want and do not have to watch daytime American TV.

I'm grateful that Round 2 of the cold that DW and the grandkids and I have ping-ponged for the last three weeks has been pretty much ignorable today.
I'm grateful that I have a family and a chosen family and that I am welcome and loved in both of them.
I'm grateful that I can live in a modest but safe comfortable house surrounded by items I enjoy and which is shared with people we care about.
It's a pretty good start.
Alan, congratulations on forthcoming retirement! There's much to be said for retiring when one is still young and rich enough to enjoy it. :)

So many things that sometimes get forgotten.
Grateful for my SO who is very handy and has an incredible work ethic. He's been working almost every day for weeks on my little rental house and has really got the backyard disaster turned around. He's taken 9 trips to the city dump to get rid of everything from fallen palm tree debris (which he had to cut into sections with his chainsaw) to an old broken 12' camper trailer to rusted metal parts that had been buried in the weeds. He'll be finishing off new fencing this week.
I've paid for materials only, he's never asked me for a dime in compensation. Some people really are angels on this earth.
Also, adding my congratulations to Alan on his upcoming retirement. Join the club!

At this very moment in time, I'm grateful that Jeff Payne, formerly of the Salt Lake City PD, was FINALLY fired. And his commander was demoted two ranks down to an officer.....it took a lot of pressure from activists like myself and also the general disgust of the general public to get this to happen but I'm grateful - what's left of middle class America is learning that the police are in general an entity to be feared and avoided as much as possible - and also learning that police unions are pure evil and how the police work against most citizens and not for them. I personally believe the tide is turning and with a few more high profile cases like this, real change is possible. Coming from a lower income background, color me grateful that I may live to actually see this. It's certainly long overdue.
There is more that I am grateful for, but this one thing stands out the most at the moment. But yeah, add my life partner to the list, too, definitely, and what I am learning on in my new job role. Rob

It's telling that an officer was (rightfully) fired for roughing up a white nurse, while at least two persons of color have been shot in the back recently by police who are presumably enjoying the customary paid vacation and who will almost certainly not be charged, let alone convicted of anything.
This is a tough question to answer, as I'm grateful for a lot. I guess I'm thankful it finally rained here.

I am grateful for all the dedicated professional police officers who make a difference for Americans every day. Mr. Payne was weighed in the balance and found wanting. When the nurse knows the law better than you do, you are in the wrong profession.

I've lived in the 85006 far long enough to realize that were Alex Wubbels not white, the outcome here would likely be very different. But....I'm grateful anyway. It's a start towards police officers realizing they are not Gods and that social media can sometimes successfully end pension accruals. And also middle America, what little is left of it, is learning more and more what the police are truly all about and this can only be a good and liberating thing for lower income Americans going forward. So even though what you have raised is real and true and depressing as hell, Jane, I still have hope and I am still grateful for this outcome in the Payne/Wubbells fiasco. Not only that, but more Americans who would not have been so bold as to smartphone video police before this incident will think twice before not videoing the police in the future - this also fills me with some hope and gratitude. This is going to be a long and winding road with as many over the top plot twists as a Mexican telenovela - but at least issues that have long been spared the harsh reality of the light of day are now being exposed for the ugly reality they are. It's a start anyway and something to be grateful for in my book. Rob

I'm grateful that all my friends and acquaintances in napa and sonoma counties (at least as far as I know) are safe. These past few days have been pretty awful, but so far the worst I know personally are some harrowing stories and destroyed property. The number of people still missing is frightening though. I fear that over time a lot of those 'missing' people will become increased fatalities from this disaster.
And I'm grateful that SO and I are able to afford first world medical care. He's been struggling with a rare form of leukemia for 3 years now (undiagnosed until a couple months ago because of its rarity and the peculiarities of how it shows evidence of it's existence). Without 110 units of safely transfused blood (and counting) and some expensive and uncommon meds he would have been dead by now.

I feel grateful for sourdough starter. I have made about 50 pounds of bread with my starter, since I got it from San Francisco last December. Not to mention pancakes and corn bread.
I am hopeful when I take the two inert-seeming jars of starter out of the refrigerator, that I can coax it back to life by feeding it some flour and moving it to a location where the temperature is 70-75F. I love to check on it and watch the gas bubbles rise to the still surface of the white liquid. Signs of life!

Today I a pleased that a friend took me to a new hiking area, only a short ways a way. How did I not know about this wonderful area? A kind man left his farmland for the county to use a nature park in 1986, he passed at 98 years old. I saw more wildlife than I have seen ever hiking. We stood silent till the muskrats resurfaced, the Redhead ducks a flock of at least 30 took off as we approached, deer galore, coyotes poo but did not see any.
