View Full Version : i got an interview!
I have applied for 2 jobs and just got an invite to an interview! Pretty excited, it is my first choice. It is a student advocate at a high school in our district, actually a high school we tried to get my son to attend and graduate from. It is this Wednesday so wish me luck (OMG just realized how many things I need to get ready just for this week, even if I don't leave).
This is exciting! Good luck.

I hope they offer a position that will be a great improvement for you!
I am trying to not freak out, just think of real working hours instead of 6:30-6 on call. And doing more of my strength areas instead of so much in my weak areas.
What do I wear! What do I bring? Okay breath and get prepared.

Is this position for the current school year, or for next year?
Take a copy of your resume with you. I made a folder of all the docs the school district needs to hire a person: resume, application, credential, social security card, birth certificate, copy of driver's license, copies of letters of recommendation... seems like there are more docs. I use a folder that comes with plastic sleeves already attached inside, works really well, when I wanted to change jobs, I just got it out and updated it.
Go in wanting to find out more of the role that is required of you thereby showing your interest and the documents listed earlier showing your preparations. Do a written summary of all the skills that you have accumulated at your present location to remind yourself of what a capable person you are and read it often in mental preparation.
Okay great, i am writing out and practicing the answers to common questions.i also timed myself since i tend to over or under talk. I am not sure what the questions will be since this is an advocate job, not a classroom job. I assume strengths, weaknesses, about self, probably equity in our district, why i am looking for a new job, and maybe teamwork. I texted with my coach and askedif what to bring, so resume, a calendar of my current after school programming, data that is relevent. I have a binder with transcripts and everything, it is all based on elementary work but it won't hurt to bring it. Just need to clean it up. Since this is my same district that makes some things simple

Your preparations for your job interview are all excellent, in my estimation.
Have you thought about questions you would ask about the position, if invited?
I wonder what you can do to make it feel good for the interviewer(s) to select you. A hopeful smile might do that. If you are already sitting and meditating on the days leading up to the interview date, I might suggest smiling inwardly... smiling in approval of your own being. Such a smile does not seem forced or phony. A smile is as contagious as a yawn.
I am visualizing you as poised as a rainbow trout.
Oh good, that's encouraging! I hope it goes well.

Great advice. The inward attitude that shines outward is key. When I interviewed people I really latched onto enthusiasm and sincerity.
You are doing a great job preparing!

A friend sent this to me a couple of months ago. DH and I died laughing. My millennial kids didn't get it.
Thanks all, I think it is funny you had a fish thing dado, I am a watery person and spent many years swimming every chance I got.
I found out one of my parents knows 3 staff at this school, I confided in her since she is a district employee and works in special education. I am not going to meditation tonight so that I can do some more preparation

Whew, repeating and doing work i feel confident in this morning

Sending you good wishes and know you will do well, whatever the outcome. YOU are valuable.
Made it, I know what were my strong areas (asking good questions at the end) and what may be weaker (I don't have that much experience with high schoolers).
Gonna be kinda quiet and let the magic work for whatever is the best outcome.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you! It's always good to finish strong.
best wishes and hope it works out. If not, this was good practice for the next interview.
I talked to my job coach last night, she actually works at the school I interviewed at. I have not heard from them but she said she has not seen anything happen. They haven't hired anyone else (4 people interviewed according to what I saw) and there is no place in the building for a desk or space for this person to work. So who knows! Kinda like my district to be this together - not!
Meanwhile I got some good information, some a ha moments over the last couple of days, and still have a job. I met with a colleague who has some inside knowledge of the higher levels of work being done and there could be opportunity in the future away from my supervisor. Not holding my breath but still trying to work on my performance as best I can.

I wish you success! It is a good time to continue improving performance (and procedures) in your current position, while you are seeking something better elsewhere.
