View Full Version : Why has the format here changed?

I'm finding that some of my new posts aren't listed as new posts. Plus, the first page is divided into 2 areas, one of which says something like "These aren't new posts, but you haven't read them all yet"........
What's up?

We've recently completed an update to the forum software and the function of the 'New Posts' button seems to have changed. Once a new post has been read by a user, the software determines that it is no longer new and therefore doesn't show up in the New Posts search results, although any older threads that you have not read will show up. You can see the most recent posts in chronological order by clicking the 'Activity Stream' link.

There may be a setting in the back end to change the way this works, but I haven't found it.

The forum I mod has similar software and behavior. To my knowledge no one has commented on that behavior, but in poking around I have not seen a setting that changes that, either. tbh "New Posts" works as I would expect it to -- once a thread has been viewed, unless there are new comments made, it should no longer show up in a "New Posts" search (that's essentially what it is).

I don't know, I just made a post so I presumably read it, but it shows up on the New Posts as though I had not read it. Hmm.

It will continue to show up if you simply hit the back button on your browser, but click on the 'New Posts' link and it should disappear. At least that's how it's working for me.

I tried it and you are exactly right--of course, then I could not find it again, lol.

You can also use the 'What's New' link to see the most recent posts in chronological order.

Thanks, Allan.

Now that the upgrade has been done, I am no longer getting a message from Norton that it is removing something.
