Just curious....how many here recycle coffee grounds by placing them in your yard, working them into the soil around plants, or using them as mulch? This is something I've been doing for years - I don't drink coffee but my cousin who I co-own with does. And when I worked for hotels in the past I'd sometimes take their coffee grounds home, too. Citrus and roses love coffee grounds and it was always such a nice perk to have access to coffee grounds to take home for free.
Just curious if others do this. Rob
They all go into the compost pile. I also pour more water through them later in the day, to get one more cup of coffee.
Yes, I put them into the compost pile, like CathyA.
Compost pile along with the brown paper filter.
compost and put around the roses when I'm feeling industrious. Banana peels, too seem to help roses. Again, when I feel like digging them in.

No, but I should. My mother used to do this with her roses.

In the winter they go in the compost pile. Spring and summer they go around the bottoms of my blueberry and azalea bushes.
They also will help keep a hydrangea blue-or pink, now I can't remember....
Aren't coffee grounds pretty acidic?

I think people usually put them around plants that like acidic soil, like azaleas, blueberries etc. (although blueberries are so picky I'm not sure this enough, oh whatever we - me and my mom - grow blueberries in containers but yea the azeleas are getting coffee, they seem to be doing ok)

Compost. However, I thank you for the reminder as I forgot that citrus like them. I have two lemon trees that will appreciate your advice.

Composted here. I do let them dry out some on the counter first; with a filter full each day I found i was having problems with the compost being too moist.
I compost the grounds and brown filter both. The paper disappears quickly. I suppose it would be too much to expect the residual caffeine to accelerate plant growth.
For you composters - do you keep a bucket or something in the kitchen and toss stuff in there and then take it outside every few days?

Yes, and we do empty it everyday. We use a big enamel stockpot with a lid and keep it on top of kitchen counter.

pottery bowl on the kitchen counter with a plate over it and taken out almost daily. Mom keeps a plastic icecream bucket with lid under her kitchen sink. I'm afraid I'd forget about it.
Plastic butter tub in the sink, dump every day or so. If I can't get to it I put it in the freezer overnight.
Ceramic crock in the kitchen with a lid; when it fills up (it doesn't take long), it goes to the big composter outside. Sometimes if I'm making something that leaves lots of compostables, I'll just put the trimmings on a dinner plate and leave that near the crock so, when I'm done, it all goes out. Easier to place stuff on the plate and easier to clean it (dishwasher). But it can't sit open on the counter overnight.

We have plastic containers by the sink that I empty at least once dailey into a cat litter bucket. It is DH’s job to take that litter bucket out to whichever compost pile is being fed.
I'm just using an old pot for compost and dump it every night. Eventually I'd like a compost container that's meant specifically for kitchen counters
But DH bought heather plants for our front yard, and I understand they like acidic soil, so I'm segregating the coffee grounds--I take them out of my French press in the morning and put them in a little plastic take-out container, and then pour/spread them around the plants later in the day.

If you're in Burlington, you might want to see what Gardener's Supply has for compost bins. I got mine from World Market (on line), but I buy the composting liner bags from Gardener's Supply (my brother works there, so I get his discount). Yes it seems silly to buy something just for composting, but my compost is only emptied maybe every 4-5 days and my old container really retained odors. My composter is a grey stoneware with a lid that has a carbon filter in it. Its not something I have to hide when company is over.

So funny you said that! I have a Gardener's Supply catalog right here at arms-length, and one of the things I circled was this (https://www.gardeners.com/buy/farmhouse-style-compost-crock/8595137.html#q=compost&simplesearch=submit&start=27).
Plus my kids gave me a $50 gift card from Gardener's Supply for Mother's Day!
