So today DH is in our dirt partial basement to see if he has anything to purge from there since we rented a truck for tomorrow. This weekend I took 2 more trunks of stuff to thrift stores. How is everyone else doing?

It's too hot to do much. I threw out one empty box from the basement and DS is giving DB a box for his business's shipping needs each time he visits him, but we have probably 100 still.

The nice thing about here is that it is cool in the AM and then again at night even though it is 90 during the day. So we work in the cooler times although by the time we quit today at 1 was really hot.

Just put out a glass top wrought iron table for free and hoping someone takes it today. Just not working for me, stylistically. Fingers crossed it's gone by tonight, and thanks to my husband for wrassling it out there and agreeing to forego the profit from the garage sale he wants to have.

I used to love to have garage sale but not anymore. I either give it away or sell it online depending on how nice the item is and my mood.

Will be dropping off a sheet set to Goodwill on Saturday, same day as their bi-weekly 1/2 price sale. I bought the sheet set new on sale and only used it once when I realized that 100% polyester is noisy and not comfortable. So it's going to a new home.
It took me a long time but I've finally learned that even if I lose a few dollars, it's better to re-home something that just isn't workable for me.

That's funny. Looking for one for our sunroom.
Proud of DH...he is going through utility room, garage and shed - installing our old kitchen cabinets in utility room, gathering lumber and doors for Habitat store and tossing all the crap the tenants left behind. We are really getting into re-purposing so we will now have the space to do so.

DS has filled the trash barrel and several bags are waiting to go in after our weekly pickup. The yard waste barrels are also full with more material ready for after next week's pickup, but there will be some room and I am thinking about cutting down one of two adjacent forsythia bushes. It is crowding one of my rhododendrons.

Somebody took the table, so I'm real happy and have to look for something to put out tomorrow.
Have talked DH into building a new wooden table, so tomorrow we will dissemble an old box spring to see if any of the wood can be repurposed.

Today was 100 and exhausting. We got up early and got the truck. Stuff was heavy and I have bad neck and back but we did it. The dump was nasty. The smell was horrible and a bulldozer kept stirring up the dust which wasn’t good for my asthma but mission accomplished. By 3:30 pm we had showered and in our pjs. Tomorrow off to the chiropractor. My yard looks great!

I sometimes will look for the number of someone I've called before in my call logs and noticed they are very cluttered so I am cleaning those up. I also have old texts I should go through. This is nice no lifting decluttering to do in the heat!

I took on a volunteer job as treasurer for a group. This group writes about 5 checks a year, so you see how small this job is.

Anyway, the job came with a huge briefcase of crap. No one had cleaned it out for decades. So I grudgingly organized the mess which resulted in tossing out a 12” high pile of papers and etc. Included in that pile were checks from an account closed 15 years ago.

Why are humans unable to toss obviously useless stuff???!!!

I bought a travel sewing "case" on wheels, years ago. Never used it because I didn't end up flying out to quilt retreats like I thought I would. Offered it up in my online quilt group. It gets shipped today! (she is paying shipping and I'm simply glad to be rid of it). I rarely impulse buy but this thing got me:(

It is thpical. Happened with the teeasury of the lily society, too, a huge briefcase of stuff including financial records from30 years ago. While interesting for historical purposes, we dont need that crap. Yet, the records of our Certificate of Depoist were no where to be found.

Sister & I went to Savers yesterday and dropped off all the books I had recently purged, as well as a lamp and a set of pet food bowls. Today I have culled 25 more books, so that's another pile for a future trip.

Put a nice filing cabinet out on the curb for free. It was picked up. The impetus was that I found a wood filing cabinet at a yard sale. I am now "DEATH CLEANING" ... starting with my office. I spend one hour per day sorting and purging. Hopefully, I will have the office done in a few weeks. I was into all kinds of things and kept instructions and have a pile of recipes that I would like to arrange. It is amazing the things I saved (and embarrassing). The desk top is now clear but the floor is in piles.

More clothes - a shirt that had two buttons fall off. For the life of me I could not get the needle threaded to mend it. I am getting old and losing fine motor manual dexterity. And the shirt never sparked joy to begin with. One of the last batch of bras that I was hacking away pieces of to try to make it comfortable, a failed strategy.

Also got rid of the smallest of my needles.

Another box out on the porch waiting for donation pickup. Mostly clothes and some miscellaneous things. Count is probably about 25 items, but I just see the box as gone. LOL

The great little purse I got at Savers prompted me to get rid of 2 purses that weren't quite right. One in and two out!
Oh, DH reclaimed 3 of the 25 books I had culled, so it knocked my 25 down to 22. I'm still pretty pleased that I've gotten rid of 62 books in the recent past. I'm going to try to get that up to 100. I'm sure I got rid of some others this year, but I wasn't counting until recently, so I'll just go with the 62 and try to come up with 38 more.

Today out of my teeny tiny home and to the town's Free Box: one Dalmation costume from last year's production (a headband with ears and a spotted tail - some kid in town can use it for Halloween), a Mexican recycled blown glass shot glass with a tiny crack in the lip (can't sell it in the gallery), a bag of sun-bleached wooden dominos I had in a Ball jar on the windowsill for decor (the strong New Mexican sun faded them badly), and an old, well-used sling bag from Patagonia (I got a new one and that is agreat customer service story I'll have to write about when I have more time.

Getting rid of that stuff doesn't make up for some of the stuff of my daughter's that I brought back from Michigan but it makes room for these way more meaningful things. Out four or five things and in with about eight new things, but that's quite okay.

I got an idea for my Halloween costume this year: I am going to be an accident victim because in the last year I now have a cane, a set of crutches, two wrist braces and a little velcro walking shoe (from my latest injury, which I am still wearing because I can't quite comfortably wear my right shoe yet...

So I sold a bread Machine and 5 sets of doggie steps. The 2 dogs pI have left don’t use them. Went through my closet and filled my trunk again. Besides clothes I took all the diplomas and pictures of when the kids were little that were framed into albums and will donate all the picture frames. Next 5 days I intend to hit it hard. I love seeing empty space on my side of the walk in closet. Sometimes DH’s stuff migrates over and I put it back on his side. He actually gave me some clothes of his for the thrift shop.

Yay! Yay for you. Get busy, sister!

on an interesting note here, DH is considering purging part of a financial investment that causes obstacles in managing it. So, that will be good, if it happens. We havent been able to transfer ownership of this stock into our trust instrument, and that is a giant PITA.

That sounds like a good idea. Did you get what you wanted to accomplish done when your messy other half was gone?

I got rid of a few things. He will be gone off and on for the next few months to take care of his father, so I will have other opportunities.

DH isnt messy, he makes neat piles of everything. Then they spill over. So yeah,
I guess that is messy!

I read that the average person has 160 tops whic includes sweaters, sweatshirts, t-shirts, blouses, etc. So I counted and I have 58. Then realized I only have 3 pairs of casual pants, 2 dress pants, 4 capris and 3 dresses so I have gotten rid of more than half of my clothes in the last 6 years since leaving my full time job.

Tybee

Terry, we do, because we have a pole barn and a too-small house. So we have stored things in the pole barn and accumulated more with the idea that we will move from the too small house. We also staged a flipper house in SC and I have that furniture out there, because there is no room for it there.

Someone took the card table, so yay! I will have to go out and stick a bookcase out there and hope for the best.

I reorganized my dresser/armoire Tuesday evening and purged some shirts and sweaters. Now, everything is neatly folded Kon Mari style for the upcoming Fall. Asked my daughter which of her many water bottles we could get rid of - she picked out four. Now the rest fit nicely in a basket on my kitchen island. All items added to a couple of donation bags downstairs.

i'm going to a scrapbooking crop this weekend, so as I pack up this evening, I'll look for items that I can donate to the give and take table. The trick is to not pick up other stuff to bring home.

Good job!

i emptied an entire attic this week, but it wasn’t mine:
one full sized pickup truck bed of cardboard to be fed into my dad’s burn barrel
one very full small sized suv load to the thrift store
Half the big pick up to the recycling center
full 30 gallon trash can for the dump
filled the bag recycling bin at the grocery store
Paper ream box of stuff for my uncle

then I half filled the suv again and brought it home.
some will go to the used book store tomorrow
some will go to my classroom tomorrow
some will go to the reuse store for art/craft/teacher/office supplies next week
styrofoam peanuts will go to ups
some us being stored for my son and dil
One item goes to the food bank on monday
and the rest (two boxes of canning jars and a small quilt are more than half by volume) is mine now.

I read that the average person has 160 tops whic includes sweaters, sweatshirts, t-shirts, blouses, etc. So I counted and I have 58.

I have 41 for a 4 season climate. 3 are for yardwork, painting, etc - s/s shirt, l/s shirt, sweatshirt

Of the other 38 one will likely go soon. It is stained and most of my stains don't come out in the wash.

I am not counting one top stained like that waiting for room in the trash, 3 blazers (for first, second and third interviews - when I was jobhunting I had one company call me in for a fourth but that is rare), pajama tops, bathing suit tops, or outerwear jackets.

Teacher Terry

We also have a 4 season climate. I did not count pajama tops because that wasn’t included in the book I read. I am at a good place for me personally.

Hermann house:

A huge refrigerator showed up in the basement. I think I regret suggesting to
DH that he could have a canning kitchen in the basement, because we now have a stove, a small upright freezer, and this big ass refrigerator/freezer there. We paid for None of these appliances, they came from friends who are moving or the stove was our old one. So now, I am worried that the upright freezer will stop working and it is chock-full of pork for dH’s sister in Florida. If that happens, will we have to pay her back? Ugh, these decisions. And then I wonder, how does DH wrestle these things into thst basement? He is amazing.

recently I mentioned a fugly bedroom set that DH had before We got married and I made him get rid of it. It has been living at his fathers house for the past three decades. Well he brought it back from Iowa and now it is in our Herman house and it is vintage cool, I no longer hate it.
