View Full Version : Bombs, bombs, everywhere....
So, Trump's Public Enemies List all gets bombs in the mail.
Press conferences and media talking heads run wild.
What's really going on?
Clever Discordians throwing a wrench into things? Russians having a laugh? Kim Jong-Un with too much time on his hands?
What's really going on?
That's a good question. It seems to me that there are two possible scenarios in play, one being that an inept, deranged person attempting a violent political statement, and the second being a deranged person perpetuating a hoax designed to influence upcoming elections.
I'm going with option two because the packets of white powder enclosed in the envelopes were determined to be non-biological, several of the suspected explosive devices were found to be functionally non-operative, with the remainder yet to be analyzed, and the addition of the right wing parody ISIS sticker on one of the devices would have been a wasted effort if it were not designed to be found.
But, to answer your question....Who knows?
I expect the fbi will fugure it out in due time. My bet is that it’s a friend of the dude who went to the pizza restaurant to stop the child sex ring in the non-existant basement.

Nice cartoon, Alan. Did you get it from the Daily Caller? Or maybe the Daily Stormer?
Nice cartoon, Alan. Did you get it from the Daily Caller? Or maybe the Daily Stormer? Not familiar with those sites, it came from Facebook. Thanks for asking though.
Disingenuous much? Facebook doesn't publish original cartoons, as far as I know. What's its real provenance?

Today's feed. Perhaps if you send Facebook a complaint they'll backtrack it for you, otherwise, I don't think I can help you.
I find that cartoon predictably racist; if that kind of stuff came across my newsfeed, I'd report it immediately.
There were ten pipe bomb recipients; why those two?

Okay, in an attempt at comity with the humor impaired I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled and scrolled until I found the post on Facebook. It was a share from a fellow I graduated from high school with 46 years ago. I followed his share source and saw that it was also shared from another individual source which also was shared from yet another individual source. I got bored at that point and stopped. Sorry.

Why does that matter? Do you really need the political slant of the originator to understand it? It is a CARTOON ffs.
I agree--the political slant of the originator is obvious.

Lighten up people. Everyone in the political arena is fair game. I personally love the trump baby blimp.
It’s Russian provocateurs trying to destroy our democracy by undermining our longstanding tradition of political civility!
It’s Russian provocateurs trying to destroy our democracy by undermining our longstanding tradition of political civility!
But they succeeded at that two years ago. Why are they still here?
There are nuts on either side of the fence who might be among my prime suspects. It could be a false flag of a false flag promulgated by the right to look like a false flag from the left if we're getting into conspiracies.
Taking the nut factor off the table, the Ruskies would be my next pick.

Unfortunately, the people of this country, like their leadership aren’t interested in the truth or reality anymore. That’s much too boring. It’s much more interesting to lie to each other, themselves and the world. And they enjoy being told fairytales. In fact, the more ludicrous the tale, the more they embrace it. Nobody is interested in what really happened.

As WS says, it's probably really boring. Sure it's fun to fantasize that there's some big crazy story of democrats or russians sending bombs for nefarious reasons. But it's far more likely that some nutjob who spends way too much time on infowars has taken trump's ongoing message to heart and sent a bunch of crude bombs to trump's political enemies. But that's not a particularly exciting or interesting story. Just kind of sad. Like John Hinckley.
None of us can do any more than speculate at this point, and our speculations will differ depending on our political leanings. Probably better to wait until the FBI does their job and go from there.
I find it pretty amazing that a single nutjob could coordinate so many same-day deliveries. Heck, Amazon Prime messes up my next-day stuff all the time.

Maybe the plan had been to spread them out over a couple of weeks to maximize the suspense but thanks to issues beyond their control it didn't work out that way... :~)
It did seem like quite a feat to coordinate the deliveries so closely. It could almost lead one to look at an organization rather than an individual.

that is funny. Unintended consequences make the perp look more competant than he is.i will buy that.
The sender of fake bombs is likely in Florida, the home of the hanging chad, Katherine Harris who introduced us to the term voter roll scrubbing, and other electoral weirdness. So yes it could be election related. They have a big governor's race going on down there.

If damaging Democrats was the intent, mailing free Hamilton tickets might have been more effective than inoperative bombs.

Okay, Ill join in the speculation parade. Everybody is focusing on Florida. That’s a good place to look but don’t forget about other battleground states for the persons birthplace. Lots of good background information can be learned say in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, West Virginia. But let’s go with a retired person. Somebody with a lot of time on their hands to listen to all the rhetoric going on back and forth. And let’s say they were in the service industry. Delivery, UPS, truck driver. And they probably drive a pickup truck themselves. They are volunteer oriented and might be a scout leader. They belong to a firearms group like the NRA or a Local sportsman’s club. Divorced with a couple kids. Probably visited the White House and New York City within the last two years. Is a big country music fan and super patriotic.
And lets get thinking really out of the box. How cool would it be if it was a woman?

I just heard statistics on domestic terrorism: 74% right wing Americans, 24% Middle Eastern (mostly American), 2.2% left-wing Americans. I'm sure that varies by report, but that's something to look at.

So the odds are with right-wingers on this one, too.

With pro-Trump, anti-Democrat stickers all over his van. Very clever false flag operation. (His countless misspelling of names was also a tipoff.) :D

Why isn't there a category for apolitical nut jobs?
Why isn't there a category for apolitical nut jobs?
Most terrorism is by definition political.
So now that the attempts by the state run media to paint this as a false flag promulgated by dems have failed i guess it’s time to launch into plan B: both sides do-it-ism.
Most terrorism is by definition political.
But they included Islamic terror, which I would generally call religious in nature. I see they listed the Vegas shooter, and never understood him to be anything but a nonpartisan nut. It looks to me like somebody had their thumb on the scale just a bit.

I am relieved that Cesar Sayoc is in secure custody, thus prevented from harming anyone. I believe he is responsible for his threats and menacing actions, and he should receive a fair trial.

I see Islamic terrorism as quintessentially political, personally. Those stats came from the Anti Defamation League, for whatever it's worth.

I guess this convenient infinite regression to the cartoon's source means you won't feel any need to take responsibility for posting something that tried to point to some kind of liberal conspiracy, when it turns out that the bomber was what most people expected--a Trumpist loser who blames everybody in the world except himself for his f***ed up life.

Not so fast … Rush Limbaugh isn't quite ready to admit that yet.

Actually the infinite regression was a simple result of your demand for a source, which reminds me that attempting to pacify everyone seldom works out.
I posted it because I thought it was funny. Now we all know that humor is subjective and often misses it's mark with a certain percentage of the intended audience so perhaps I should have tested that one in another venue before trying it here. Lesson learned.
I think I may have avoided this entire incident if I were more invested in the concept of empathy. You may have noticed that myself and a few others have recently been accused of lacking that mysterious trait. I thought I knew what it meant previously but now it appears to be a trait that only resides in members of a certain political persuasion, so I've been using the Google machine recently trying to find an updated definition. So far without success but please know that I'm an eternal optimist and pledge to not abandon this quest until I fully understand how to transition into a better person.
The closest examples I've been able to find so far are cultural revolution programs initiated by Chairman Mao in China during the 1960's and in Iran in the early 80's, although these seem to be a little too severe for me, so I'll keep researching.
Thank you for calling me out on this, we'll never achieve a perfect society while people like the current me are allowed to be irreverent.

It was intended not as an apology but rather an explanation and pledge, with the former being completely ingenuous and the latter perhaps a little less so. Irreverence is hard to shake. ;)

I am sitting here thinking about the re-education camp Terry and Alan will be attending and for how long, given their relative transgressions. Terry only commented that the cartoon was funny, even though it was not empathetic, was deliberately racist, and clearly Wrongthought. Probably a month for her in the camp is sufficient.
But Alan, well, he promoted the Diseased Thought Cartoon by The Enemy of the People, and then failed to apologize when confronted with his Thoughtcrime. That is a serious offense. I would say a year in Re- education camp is necessary.
Well, I hope Alan and Terry will be happy to know that if they start getting rounded up for the camps, I'll consider that a call to action!

A good political cartoon often contains a bit of humor--probably to keep one from slashing one's wrists.

Irreverence, eh? Is that the same as "I was only joking?" (https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/06/politics/treason-donald-trump-joking/index.html)

Silly me. I always thought magnanimity was in the eye of the beholder. Now that I know I can assign it to myself, I'll be more generous in claiming it.
