I am so grateful for this as it's a check and balance against the Thug of Orange's power - an actual check and balance of the sort he has not had to deal with until now. Will be interesting to see how he handles being thrwarted......I see interesting media bites and quotes coming and some great SNL skits coming, hopefully some careers are made from this. And hopefully there will be ongoing investigations to block/thwart/hinder the man's every move. Karma, sometimes it's quick......Rob

Rob, I am so relieved! For the first time in 22 years Nevada went blue. Wisconsin got rid of horrible Walker.
I was really happy to see that Walker lost, too!

Rob, I am so relieved! For the first time in 22 years Nevada went blue. Wisconsin got rid of horrible Walker.YES! YES! YES! I am so relieved that Scott Walker got the heave-ho. So joyous to see - even though I have no real links to Wisconsin, I engaged in activism earlier this year against the Milwaukee PD and I quickly grasped how backwards and old boys network they were. Often this starts at the top and sifts down so I'm glad to see Walker gone, truly a joyous occurrence for both the residents of Wisconsin and for humanity at large. Rob

I’m one Wisconsin resident who will miss Walker. We’ve replaced him with a Teachers’ union shill. Fortunately the state legislature largely remains in responsible hands.

And kentucky got rid of their ‘straights only’ county clerk.

And kentucky got rid of their ‘straights only’ county clerk.Yes! Yes! Yes! DH caught this morning. I am grateful for this too....and impressed as Human Rights prevailed in what is typically a conservative part of the country.
The Women's March was just the start, the Resistance is real (if not bloody enough for some of you), and I hope this is the start of a government "of the people. by the people. and for the people" we were promised at Gettysburg.
The diversity among candidates who won was truly dazzling. Representation that looks like America--what a concept! Dare i let go of my cynicism? Not quite yet. We have more work to do.
I am sorry that Cruz wasn't voted out of office--I wouldn't be surprised if election-tampering were at work there--and there were a few additional disappointments, but I think this is just the beginning. Upcoming generations have taken the reins, and I, for one, am all for it.
I think Cruz’s victory illustrates the limits of glamour politics more than anything else. A signally obnoxious man defeated a gentry progressive candidate with a pretty face, a seventy million dollar war chest and all the adoration Hollywood and the media could manufacture. Texas didn’t fall for it.
I see some pundits on the left are rebuking white women as a group for voting against Beto and Stacey Abrams. The implication being that feminists must be progressives.
I started reading a book a few weeks ago and quickly abandoned it. I forget the title, but it was a collection of essays by women with repeated bashing of women like me who voted for Bernie Sanders. And he is certainly progressive.
Bernie is certainly more progressive than Hillary. She's more of a Nixon republican than a progressive. There's a big difference between voting for Bernie and voting for Cruz or Kemp.

I’m reading that some of Clinton’s diehard minions are floating the idea of a release 4.0.
In either case, isn’t it ridiculous to assume that people owe some kind of allegiance to their gender?

She will run. It will be stupid.

Yes. Obvi!
But what is interesting is that many of my fellow liberals think I owe an allegiance to someone else's gender for the wrongs committed by my forefathers against that gender.
I remember telling people I did not vote for Hillary in 2016. They sometimes accused me of sexism for "not voting for a woman!" Some of these libs went into tizzies.
But it was fun to see the cognitive dissonance immediately set in and show on their face when I said: "Actually, I voted for Jill Stein."

Hillary as Dem candidate in 2020 sounds like a good way to ensure a second term for Trump.

To be honest, I believed pretty much the exact opposite in 2016.
Has anyone ever been elected president after two prior failures?

She will NOT run, even as her own choice. She is not that delusional.
She will be approached as is respectful toward the old guard, but any bid to run her will be quashed early on.

Do you spend much time around Democrats? LOL
Dems have no clue how to win and would not know a good idea if it walked right up to them and introduced itself.

Lots of people said that about Trump getting elected.
Never underestimate the dems' ability to snatch defeat from the mouth of victory.

Hillary is very inspirational. Just the mention of her name still inspires conservatives into apoplectic fits of rage. I assume they'll be invoking her during the two minutes hate for years to come. Caravans of scary brown people come and go but Hillary is forever.

Smart assery aside, di YOU think your party will put her up again? UL’s conviction is giving me life! Haha.
Perhaps the Democrats’ choice of House Speaker will give us an indication of the direction they will take. Will they opt for old age and guile over jittery youthful outrage? Will complex calculations of intersectional point values produce the perfect mix of appearance and utterance?
In my heart of hearts, I would like to see Mitt Romney defeat Trump in the primaries and go on to subdue one of the far left performance artists in the general election.

I have no idea if hillary is clueless enough/power hungry enough to think she actually has a chance.
And yes, i’d like to see a speaker of the house who hasnt been able to get the senior discount at Denny’s for the last 25+ years. But i doubt we’ll be so lucky.
I have the greatest respect for Hillary Clinton (I might even want to have a beer with her--isn't that the criterion?)--especially since she's held up masterfully over the years in the face of a constant drumbeat of blatant misogyny and the worst kind of lies. And I have high regard for Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Nancy Pelosi--all of them great role models. That said, let's pass the torch to a new generation. Please.
I see one of her hacks-in-waiting wrote an op ed in the WSJ saying she will reinvent herself as the “progressive firebrand of 1994.”
It’s all very thrilling. I can’t remember if it was her or Al Gore who invented fire.

And the way she stood by her man! Many women could take a lesson from her marriage instructional book. Talk about true character. Wow! Hillary has it!

Wow, I think I like Hillary better than you liberals do.
If Hillary wants to “stand by her man” I don’t see anything wrong with that, other than he does seem to be a bit of a predator, and that is problematic.

Mitt Romney defeat Trump? ROLFL!!
What does Mitt Romney call 300 million minimum wage employees with no retirement benefits? .....a good start.
What variant on the old Vicks commercial can Romney star in?
"I'm not a racist but I play one to win the Republican nomination"
I will never forget that he resurrected old anti-miscegenation laws on the books in Massachusetts that forbid a couple from marrying here if they could not marry in their home state, not because he is a racist, but to target and discriminate against another group, gays seeking to get married in the first in the nation state with gay marriage.

As soon as this economic bubble bursts, the last gasp of conservatism will exhale on its death bed and the progressives will sweep across this nation like the fires of California. The US will look more reminiscent of Canada or the European Union than it’s current nationalist bootleg incarnation. It will gladly trade the occasional foreign terrorist attack for the predictable domestic slaughter that rules the day. And no amount of religious guilting will halt it.

As long as he doesn't invite them to Chappaqua without you to watch netflix and chill it would probably be fine. Although to be honest if I recall correctly your daughter is more Roy Moore's type.

What can I say, I’m desperate. I have this fear that the Democrats will concoct a cure that’s worse than disease. This seems like a good moment for s responsible adult and the politics of envy be damned.
Are you saying republicans are responsible adults? hahahahahahahaha That's hilarious! Unless by responsible adults you mean the type that put budget busting tax cuts in place and yell "VOTER FRAUD! VOTER FRAUD!" during the counting of ballots in an effort to trash our democracy even when there's no evidence of voting fraud? Those kind of responsible adults?

"Politics of envy" is incendiary and provably false. You can't say Democrats are elitists who look down on their Republican peers and at the same time envious spoilsports. We're not envious of you; we think your policies are despicable.

Some more than others, admittedly. But I always thought highly of Mitt. There are those on both sides reacting to losses with cries of vote fraud, disenfranchisement and Russian interference. There are those who speak darkly of “threats to our democracy” and see stormtroopers behind every tree whenever things don’t break their way. I generally dismiss them as marginal types.

Sure you can. A wealthy socialist with three houses can preach about inequality without it affecting his digestion at all. A lady who got rich from a philanthropic foundation and hosting story times for investment bankers has no problem sneering at working class deplorables. You’re underestimating the power of hypocrisy.
I don't see storm troupers behind every tree. I see the leader of the republican party repeatedly screaming, without any evidence whatsoever, voter fraud in an effort to 1) stop the counting of votes in florida, or 2) stop the seating of the senator if the democrat ends up getting more votes. Frankly, trying to subvert people's trust in our elections in this manner is about the most heinous and despicable thing I could imagine a president doing.
I hate to break it to you but since the republicans don't seem to have any ideas or policies on which to run, this IS the future of the republican party.

Democrats shouldn't have to take a vow of poverty to represent their constituents; Bernie Sanders worked hard for his decades before he inherited property. But I think Democratic candidates should refuse PAC donations, if possible. Reversing the disastrous Citizens United decision and getting Big Money out of the picture would be a very good thing.
Mitt Romney, with his obvious snobbery (remember his 47% speech?), casual animal abuse, and religious extremism, should not be President. I'm not worried about it; no one wants to have a glass of sparkling water with him.

For those who doubt Russian influence and interference in our elections, I would recommend Malcolm Nance's books: The Plot to Hack America and The Plot to Destroy Democracy. Nance has impeccable intelligence credentials and extensive experience in the field.
