The backstory: A few years ago I bought a raspberry pi. It's a small, decently powered, super-cheap computer that runs linux and can be used for any number of projects. I thought it would be a fun hobby and I could learn something in the process. After a long weekend of trying I could never get the wifi to work. So it got put on a shelf and forgotten.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago when my sister, a 30 year computer software engineer, sent me an article about turning a raspberry pi into the ultimate ad blocker. She was setting one up for herself and offered to set mine up as well if I would bring it with me for our visit to her for Thanksgiving.
That sounded great so I agreed. Then my old iPhone that we've been using as a security camera had a battery meltdown that split the case, so I informed my sister that i wanted the pi to do double duty as a security camera. On our visit last week we got the wifi to work (turns out there's a weird glitch where it will only work if I remove and reinsert the wifi dongle after the thing has booted up), and got the other stuff all set up, except that the camera needs little tiny screws to hold it in place in the computer's case.
Today I went on amazon to buy glasses screws for this. It turns out that you can't just buy a few. So, for $7.99 I just bought 1,100 of them. I suppose I could start an optician practice, but that's not really in my plans, so if anyone is in need of replacement screws for their glasses PM me and I'll send you a few! :~)
