View Full Version : Why Today is a Good Day
I started on a Lenten 40 days/40 bags of declutter and I did a big bag from my front hall closet
A client confirmed he (therefore I) won a project, and the project is bigger than expected
The scope of another project I won last week has also grown by 3 countries
I got a $100 reimbursement in the mail from a company that went under
I'm grateful.

Catherine, I am happy for you. My day has been terrible with my teaching job ending which I really love.
That sounds like a very good day indeed, Catherine!
Today was a good day for me too. I helped my mom (who has early Alzheimer's) with some critical errands and then she treated me to lunch at a favorite little lunch spot that we have. She said how much she liked it there, that it felt cozy and she felt very much at home. On the ride home, she said that she felt very happy. She has been going through such a difficult time that I can only begin to imagine, so I am grateful that I was aware enough to appreciate those moments as they were occurring, for the jewels that they were.
Today was good. One mean girl was off and the others were subdued since higher ranking people from another group are in our area temporarily due to an office renovation. I heard on an internal job I applied for at another location. They expect to interview me next week.
Something else to add! Now it's a GREAT day!!
I just spoke with my son whose wife is midway through her pregnancy. They had their 20+ week visit with the doctor and the baby and DIL are healthy.
AND I'm having a granddaughter!
1. I woke up and so did hubby;)
2. We had some sunshine amidst the snow-filled winter.
3. Roof over my head and a warm home.
LIFE IS GRAND!
* I heard our program is great from the principal at the school (we are supervised by another department)
* I get to do programming for summer camp (as opposed to admin work)
* I am having a really good dinner

The first big flower show of the season is set up and all exhibits are in and judged. I am in charge of the Design section so it is a relief to get it up. On to the next one, Daffodil show next month.
I got some difficult projects done (from my Impossible Task list), so I'm basking in afterglow. Then I will confront the next wave of onerous business. >:(
My gardens are full of color and blooms: red and pink camellias (almost 3 doz shrubs), yellow daffodils, 3 big lemon trees full of gorgeous fruit, red berries and plum and orange foliage on heavenly bamboos, red bark and tiny chartreuse foliage on Japanese maples, etc., - even a red rose is blooming right now! And the weather is nice enough that I can go out there and enjoy all this beauty every day.
I love it when the impossible task list gets some things marked off! And you never know what can end up on that list.
I am on the weekend. We had a great spirit day at work, kids dressed like teachers and teachers dressed like kids. I got to wear unicorn leggings all day, so comfy. There were some super cute kids. I loaned one my Starbucks tumbler so she could look like her stressed teacher with coffee.
Today we shed the arctic air mass.
Today I get to make airplane cookies to celebrate the 20th anniversary of my son's arrival to our home!!

Today is a good day- we're basically healthy, we have a (slightly problematic) roof over our heads, indoor plumbing, central heating (which we have really appreciated this winter!! food, clean water, etc-) and enough wherewithal to make it through fairly large unexpected schtuff. But mainly I'm feelin' it's a good day because I'm off work and don't plan to leave the property today! Hoping to get some items checked off the to-do list (which, embarrassingly, does NOT get shorter as I get older, in fact I've taken to carrying over "to-dos" from year to year now....) and put a little planing time into our bucket list trip for 2020 - a family trip to Scotland. I am a little concerned for many reasons, but if we're going to do it, we need to do it soon. DB is 77 and slowing down, DH isn't getting any easier to live with, and life doesn't wait for me the way it used to! :~)

I share your joy about this one!
Hubby has an uncle who is 80 today. We're driving the 4h round trip to help him celebrate. My Dad only made it to 71. I'm so happy for Stan and his family!
Will be meeting a friend at a bookstore and then going to get a bite to eat. Long-time close friends really are gold.
Yesterday I was jealous of all the good days you guys were reporting while mine was just so-so, but good things must come to those who wait!
I awoke today to an email from a nice gentleman in Nigeria. He started off by telling me that he had completed the multi-million dollar transaction he had previously offered me with another person :(, but would like to reward me with the gift of $900,000.00 :0!. All I have to do is forward some of my personal information so they know where to deposit the money.
Who's jealous now?

Old friends, old books and old booze really are the best.

can't wait to get into my garden! But we still have a bunch of snow on the ground.
After 18" of snow 2 weeks ago (which is huge for us Valley dwellers) - the sun is shining. The daffodils and crocus are blooming. The neighborhood kitty is sleeping outside in the sun.
Adult children all have good jobs. Another grandchild is on the way. DD and SIL have had lots of infertility issues and when they took a break from getting the medical procedures - success!
A baby boy coming this Summer. SIL held up ultra sound picture reminiscent of Rafiki holding up Simba in the Lion King! They are very excited. We are all very blessed - it is a great day.

Congratulations on the baby boy, Greg--and nice to see you posting!!
As for me, it's a good day because, even though it's rainy, we got to see our son/dil/2gs.
And because I had to run into the convenience store for DH and snagged a black and white cookie for myself.
The sun is shining bright today! I love the snow/winter and I'll take the sunshine too!
It was a good week as we traveled to see our grand-twins far away and now nine months old. The cuteness factor would make anyone feel better.

So happy to hear that!

Joy Spring, especially Clifford Brown on trumpet 1:45 to 3:25...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnK6OHPQZbA
Much later, Manhattan Transfer recorded a "Vocalese" version of Joy Spring including the thought:
Once you know about the spring you can always smile
It becomes your one expression
And you're always wearin' it
Like the Buddhas do.
It's a great day because:
1. I slept until 630 (rare) even though I was awake 230-330.
2. The surgery schedule is minimal so I'm working at home today.
3. Amongst working at home, I will be sprinkling in some quilting time:cool:
4. Gorgeous sunshine even though it's 27 degrees outside! It's March in the NW, what you expect?
They will still get their money's worth out of me.
It's a great day because: We weeded the blueberry bed. The sun was shining, most of the snow is gone and it got up to 50 degrees! AND THE BLUEBERRY WEEDING IS DONE!!!
It is RAINING. My family loves to hear rain after the many months of freezing temperatures... plus, the snow is finally melting!

It's a good day because - as of today - I have been blessed to live for 61 years. Some good years and some bad years, but they were all mine. Wonder how many I have left?? Oh, and Happy Pi Day, everyone! LOL.
Happy birthday, happystuff!!! Living is a blessing for sure!

Thank you - and it most certainly it!
It a generally good day for me because I had a few interviews cancelled so I had time to go out for a nice walk--it's sunny and pretty mild out.
It's a good day for DH because he got his medical marijuana card in the mail! He's had a few maladies this winter and can't take most pain medications. So hopefully this will take the edge off.
Today is a good day, because my Dad finally got my Mom to a gerontologist to address her memory loss. She's in denial- says its just old age- even though my Dad is 5 years older and his decline is minor. They have a bunch of things to try to rule out other conditions. At the very least, they can get her some medication to address her paranoia and agitation. My Dad is at the end of his rope.
You can't fix it/or reduce the impact if you don't seek help.
Another Impossible Task completed--dragging a huge box to the PO and picking up deliveries. Now to do my taxes on the stupid new form (why?) and get a BD gift wrapped and mailed. Soon it will be yard work time--the most impossible IT of all...

Ahhhhh, voluntary income taxes...
Today I completed my tax returns. The new format of the 1040 got me into 5 different morasses. The worst morass for me was Qualified Dividends. I really tried to follow the instructions on "the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain" worksheet... and by Line 14 I had a useless negative value.
So I am punting. I am telling the IRS I had Qualified Dividends, and stating the amount. I am letting them figure out the rest.
What made it good for me today was listening to choral music composed by Gabriel Faure, while I worked on my 1040 tax return.
There are some issues with heat distribution in my house. DS got a free estimate. The good news is that they don't make furnaces to last any more, but ours is old and should have more life in it. One switch was adjusted to move heat from the basement to living quarters. The bad news is that the ductwork is the worst the HVAC guy ever saw, which I believe. (It is held up in places by bent wire coat hangers.) In any case time to budget and plan for a replacement as there does not appear to be any imminent danger of the furnace dying.
