I get a lot of ideas, and my sister and I talk about them while knowing that neither one of us is taking out our retirement funds to start this. So my fun idea (yes it is not for real so don't be a debby downer please) is a food truck. Ahhh, I love cooking for people. So it could be a tea/pastry kinda truck. I would make lovely tea, maybe some coffee but I am not good at that since I never drink it. Turmeric tea is 'new' and I love it. I make fruity iced tea with green tea and berry tea with stevia for my summer iced tea. I could make muffins and our family danish pastry and some scones if they are still cool. Then have an egg sandwich and some fruit like cutie oranges.

The other idea is a vegetarian food truck. With the fruity iced tea of course, and mint limeade. Either bowls or wraps. The protein would be BBQ tempeh, spicy soy/ginger tofu or black beans. The grains would be rice or quinoa, but trying something like farro would be interesting. Then lots of veggie options like the cucumber radish salad and roasted beets in raspberry vinagrette to add on. Of course some type of fat/dressing like avacado or flavored mayo.

Well it is nice to dream,

I recently decided to read Anne of Green Gables. You and Anne share an imagination. 😊

And my son always talks about so many things he could do ... knowing many of them won’t happen. But he loves to dream.

I love Anne, read her books as a child. BTW my real name is not Zoe, it is Anne (with an E!!!)

Does your area allow food trucks? Chicago is very restrictive on them, due to lobbying from the fixed location restaurants.

Some time ago I daydreamed something similar. Food truck seem pretty popular these days. From what I've seen around they are sort of the opposite of any sort of health food. Might be a niche in the right place or a bust for a lot of places. There was a food truck that came to an old place of employment often enough I learned a few odds and ends from the lady. She only sold burritos, but of all sorts. I'm pretty sure she made a reasonable income. I remember that it was a family business with her husband and son doing some of the prep work from home. The burritos were very good. People would line up for them.

We have a lot of food trucks here but only at events or festivals. My middle name is Anne because my mom name was Annabelle.

My middle name is Anne because my mom name was Annabelle.I have a tendency to associate names and phrases with song lyrics. Now I'll never not be able to hear The Hollies singing "Hey, Terry (Carrie) Anne, what's your game now can anybody play?" when I see your posts.

That’s funny Alan!

Yes there are lots of food trucks around here and it is pretty open. I found 4 vegan food trucks in Denver. We are hip like that! But also a big city. Years ago there was one with everything on a stick, including mashed potatoes? I never had food there. There is a place in Boulder that basically has an indoor bar and then foodtrucks. So it is very possible. I was so super, stinkin happy when I went to an all day punk show and found a veggie dog! When I went back for a second one they were sold out. I know several Buddhist, punk, vegans. So a vegetarian food truck parked outside a punk show?

I spent money on food for lunches including food to try out some of my ideas. Then feed people next,

I briefly entertained the idea of being a PI. I would have been great doing computer searches; the undercover stuff not so much.

I've never thought about running a food cart. though Portland has lots of excellent ones, I hear--including the inevitable vegan venues. I had a veggie dog at a cart in Portland many years ago. They say daydreaming is good for you...

Is milk allowed for vegan cooking or were they just smashed potatoes?
Isn't a vegan food truck, a produce truck?

The mashed potato thing wasnt on a vegan truck, so i assume milk was involved, and butter.

I didnt read the menus of the vegan trucks, however they weren't raw food. You can mix and match and cook after all.

Official "Vegan" can't include milk, but they can make mashed potatoes out of some of the things like soy or almond milk. And there's a lot of non-milk "butters" out there.....just vegetable shortening with coloring.

A local food truck for a number of years did nothing but crepes with all sorts of fillings that could adapt to many diets. They eventually established a bricks and mortar crepe restaurant which is doing very well.
Dreaming is very important in so many ways so don't ever stop doing that to carry you through the down times and inspire the up times.

Thank you all for the encouragement to dream!

There's used to be a crepe truck in our neighborhood too! We used to stop there all the time for dessert after going out to dinner. My other favorite are the shrimp trucks on Oahu.

My sister is going to taste test my vegan pastry, and she is experimenting with healthier cupcakes, who knows about a weekend thing some day

Wow, coincidentally, I just sent my SIL a text and by mistake I spelled her name ..ann.. with an e on the end. I apologized, explaining that my middle name is Anne so adding the e is reflexive. I really like that name. It was my MILs name, too, although her birth name was Annie.

Regarding the food truck, if you ever get around to being serious about it, do your market research! When you're running a business it doesn't matter if YOU love tea and pastries. (Although I LOVE that idea--kind of a modern version of the "high tea"--you could do little watercress sandwiches cut in slim quarters.)

Vegan probably has a lot of potential where you live.

Yes Catherine, the market research is important. I know what I like, and not often what other people like.

I also was looking at start up costs. If we are not cooking that much then that really reduces what we need. No fryers or stove tops, just electricity and space. Who knows

This thread is a good jumping off place for us to say: this week we want to…

It doesn’t mean our plan has to be practical, it just means that this week right now we are feeling like we could and should and want to do… Fill in the blank.

I will start:
At this very moment I miss my little blonde French bulldogs, at least the ones who were well behaved and didn’t drive me crazy with their brainless yapping. And I feel that this week I would like to be a Frenchie mom.

Me, too. Looking at rescue dog sites to see what is available.

ooh, I want another large-ish dog with lab and something else like shephard. I want to train her/him a little but also let her/him have their energy. Maybe a couple big dogs that go with me everywhere.

I also want to buy a trailer that needs work and make it my project.

The biggest thing I remembered tonight is that I want to dreadlock my hair! I have wanted to for over 20 years. Not as extreme as the people who decide on a gender transition later in life but heck, it is significant.

I always thought a crepe food truck would be fun. Sweet and savory.
Mostly I'd rather just run away and spend my days solo hiking away from people.

Sounds like you need a 'f-you hike'
