I talked to my new assistant on the phone on Friday, and then she met me at work today at the opening of program (6:30am). When she walked in I knew her! She was a staff person in my old department and then went on to be a para in the same district, and then got a job with us. I am so excited. She jumped right in and was comfortable with us I think.
We didn't really talk about the old district but she did say that when she was student teaching and working as a para they would have her sub for her teacher. That is really not allowed, you have to have a sub license with the state to be in charge of the classroom. Plus a sub teacher gets paid for it. The school told her all of this was approved policy and to add a few hours to her time sheet. Geez, I am not surprised by that. The entire district is kinda shady. Meanwhile we talked about good stuff and things that are different so training should go very fast.
