Anyone ever need to wear a rigid wrist splint?

I have a problem with a tendon on the outside of my hand. I saw a hand specialist yesterday and then went to their therapy department. They have those slabs of plastic that are heated and molded to your hand/wrist/lower arm. I'm discovering that the rigidity of it is causing pain in several other areas of my hand and lower arm. The last thing I need is more problems in new places. I will call them after the labor holiday to get another appointment. Hopefully they will be open to me switching to a softer splint. Anyone else have this kind of problem with a rigid wrist splint? Thanks.

I have worn one twice but didn’t have any issues.

I have had carpal tunnel problems with both wrists. Also for a while it seemed I was bending my wrists backwards in my sleep, so I wore them then. I have one for each hand, wear them as needed. Although, since I don't type all day or do data entry for money any more, the times I need them are few and far between!

My splints were different than what you describe though.

Thanks TT and NewGig. Well, just 1 day after wearing this brace, I have the new symptoms of a numb index finger. Great. i've taken off the rigid splint and am using an older softer splint alternating with an ace wrap to try to immobilize that lateral part of my hand without pressing on any nerves. Of course, it's a holiday weekend. With all the funky problems I have, I'll be pretty ticked off if trying to take care of one problem is causing another one. Hopefully the feeling in my index finger comes back.
