I see that Oxford University has banned clapping. The reason being it triggers anxiety in some descendants of the people who stopped Napoleon and Hitler. Apparently Oxfordian audiences are to do a sort of jazz hands thing to signal their applause. Personally I find the idea of thousands of jazz hands much more disturbing myself.

I thought we'd seen the last of up twinkles and other such foolishness. As Bugs Bunny might have said "what a bunch of maroons".

The UK has been swirling the drain for a long time now.

I dare say Churchill would be appalled.

Well the headline certainly feeds a certain narrative of college campuses, but the actual story is a bit different. https://www.truthorfiction.com/university-of-oxford-clapping-ban-rumor/

So it wasn’t banned, but “replaced as a default”? The land of Orwell certainly retains it’s flair for creepy terminology.

If my wife ever tells me I’m replaced as her default, I think I will get the message.

My daughter says that at Cambridge they are now simply clapping louder to make up for it, and claims "Oxford is silly."

OK.. I definitely went the other way with the double-entendre headline. I think one clap should be banned, but not the other one.

Maybe they could compromise and clap with one hand.

I read it that way too!

Interesting, watching the BBC coverage of some Parliament chamber "discussions", there doesn't seem to be a lot of sensitive safe-space stuff going on....

Perhaps the story is trolling us.

Oh. I see what you mean. I was originally going to say Clap Control, but that would have been no better.

I felt like Emily Litella for a minute....my former public health brain went straight to "the clap." Why wouldn't we want to ban the clap? Oh....never mind.

I initially thought the same thing.

Glad I’m not the only one. :)
