Check out what my husband built. Prior to this, there was a thin iron railing on one side, and nothing but a sheer drop off on the other side of the stairs--terrifying. Isn't this great--I'm very proud of him

Wow! That's great! I know how comforting is to improve the safety of a staircase!

I know, right?

Railings are so important and so is security. Cute dog, BTW.

Thank you--she is actually afraid of the basement and won't go down there at all. Maybe she will now.

Nice job.

We lived with an open stair well for 20+ years. No hand railing. I still to this day go downstairs like a first grader, two feet on each step. I was terrified that one of the bulldogs would fall through the well.

For our basement we have no hand railing because DH refuses to put one in. He says it will interfere with moving things up and own the stairs. But since he has another method of egress, I think he is all wet. This is another battle I have lost.

Your hubby did nice work.

Did you close up a doggy door? She looks like she wants to go out!

When we had a big doggie the doggie door also allowed an opossum into the house. Not fun to wake up to the sound of movement, when all bodies are assumed accounted for!

Nice job Tybee! We don’t have a doggie door. The neighbors cats would be in our house:)). They prefer our yard, shed and garage if it’s open.

Yes, we boarded over a doggie door for the winter. It's about 12 degrees here now. She loves it outside but I worry it's too cold so I make her come in.

Our husky/shepherd would sun himself in a snow bank for hours and not come in but we are warmer and they are built for it.

"really? you board up my doggie door and now you're corralling me into the basement? The hated awful basement?" Being a pet-mom is hard, isn't it?

Yeah. She loves her doggie door. But in the winter, there are two storm doors between her and the outside, so if we didn't board it up, she'd get stuck in the portico, and it's cold out there!

Our Malamute loved being out in the snow. So much that she would get upset if she had to be inside and would cry non-stop. Got a few calls from neighbors "worried" about her because she'd be asleep and end up looking like this...

What a beauty. Some of them really, really love lying in the snow.

Beautiful dogs, Tybee and Kelly! My last dog wasn't beautiful (I called her my scruffy ragamuffin)but she did love the snow. One year she escaped and "planted" herself in my garden.

Catherine, at first your doggie showed up but now when I try to click on attachment, it says invalid link? I wanted a close up of her!

I had to re-insert because she was sideways!

Max liked to ride him when he was a puppy.
