I personally have nothing but respect for Pelosi's tearing up of Trump's speech. I didn't get to see the speech since it's season and I pretty much live at work. One of the cashiers at the grocery store I go to told me about it and I then googled/youtubed.
Nancy Pelosi is now my hero. She basically middle finger saluted Trump, all the slime he surrounds himself with/stands for, and his toxic vision of despair for both America and the world at large. Kudos !!! Rob

Silly theatrics and you fell for it.
Trump allegedly did not shake nancy’s hand but am not applauding that.
They are all ridiculous.

Aside from the theatrics, Pelosi has been a hero of mine since she took charge of the House. She's an experienced, no-nonsense legislator, who has what it takes. I didn't watch it, but my reading of the transcript indicates Trump was full of lies (and himself) as usual.

You’ve set a very low standard for nobility. I think Trump and Pelosi displayed a level of pettiness unworthy of a middle school cafeteria.

They are all ridiculous.Trump drew first blood by refusing to skake Pelosi's hand. There was no call for this unjustifiable snub. Had he behaved in the Ukraine, there would have been no need for Pelosi to start impeachment proceedings. Once again, The Orange One Of Evil/Health Care Access For The Priviledged Only drew first blood. As always, it seems. Best to get a Democrat in in 2020. The planet depends on it. Rob

I saw the whole thing. (And I agree with your assessment of Pelosi.) She said she ripped up the speech because it was a "manifesto of mistruths" and she is accurate about that. Trump took credit for everything except the sun coming up every day. He made it sound like the Obama years were the Dark Ages, instead of the truth that he took us out of the Great Recession. He made it sound like the lower wage earners were basking in wealth, when their wages are stagnant. He claimed victory for energy independence, neglecting to say that we achieved energy independence in 2012. He praised the "fruits" of deregulation. Healthcare--Trump is going to save the day, and he also claimed credit for the decline in opioid deaths.
It was a typical hyperbolic Trump speech laced with lies and half-truths.
Oh, there was one sentence devoted to the environment. Trees. Lots of them are going to be planted. That ought to make up for all the wildlife he's destroying, all the seas being acidified, and all the lands he's exploiting and waters he is poisoning in the name of profit. He invoked the name of Teddy Roosevelt in his speech--TR is probably rolling over in his grave.
I am undecided as to whether her ripping up the speech helped or hurt her cause, but personally, I'm glad she made that statement. Of course it will be GREAT fodder for GOP.

You’ve set a very low standard for nobility. I think Trump and Pelosi displayed a level of pettiness unworthy of a middle school cafeteria.I disagree, with all due respect. Pelosi showed a great deal of class and I'm not the only one who thinks so. Right now it's season so I don't have time for activism but I've gotten vm's from some activists and/or neighbors and she's a hit. Such a respectful move showing soladarity with everyday working Americans. Rob
Rob, you actually think how she behaved through the entire speech showed class?
Watching her was highly entertaining. I wondered if she remembered to put waterproof mascara on, as it looked like she was about ready to start crying multiple times.
I know a lot of life long Dems who are very unhappy with how she acted, from what’s showing up on FB.

I think her frustration with this horrific regime is palpable. There are some 400 bills languishing on McConnell's desk, including one addressing the cost of prescription drugs. I wouldn't blame her if she unleashed some version of the Red Wedding, personally. (Note: hyperbole, for those with no sense of humor.)

To me, nobility was Henry Clay telling the pro-slavery faction he’d rather be right than president.
Or the Duke of Wellington telling blackmailers to “publish and be damned”.
Or John McCain refusing to be released from a POW camp before his fellow prisoners.
Applying terms like “nobility” or “class” or “respectful” to childish displays of petulance makes me wonder if we’re speaking the same language.
"Noble" I think means something else, Rob.
I understand that you subscribe to the Humpty Dumpty theory of language, but still...
I saw no nobility on either side of the podium last night by an elected official, though some of the guests certainly were. They deserved better.

It was so odd seeing that little African-American girl and her mom get little if any reaction from the Dems. She got a scholarship to go to a school of her family’s choice (I’m assuming private of some sort). It’s as if they are tainted by association.
And what was with the chicks in white?
And what was with the chicks in white?Modern day suffragists displaying their victimization to those not woke enough to recognize it otherwise. I believe they did it last year as well.

It was apparently to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment:

I probably wouldn't use the word noble, but it certainly had some entertainment value consistent with T's reality show of self promotion and half truths.

And what did the Iowans say to all of this on Monday? Throw the bastards out. Trump, Biden, Nancy—just toss out the old pols.
I don’t think that’s the answer necessarily, I know that having no experienced leadership brings its own set of awfulness. But—That is what the good people of Iowa were saying to favor mayor Pete. It’s time we get back to simpler times where Congressmen act like gentlemen legislators where they meet for a few months in DC and then go home for the rest of the year. This of course will never happen I know it.

Based on their performance in the impeachment process, I would doubt Pelosi and her vassals could organize a respectable massacre. On the plus side, it would give her the chance to autograph the dirks and daggers.
On the plus side, it would give her the chance to autograph the dirks and daggers.I thought the symbolism of her previous bullet shaped pens would have triggered an explosive response from her caucus. Guess I was wrong.

Well, in fairness we have yet to hear from all of them. The Iowa Democrats still seem to be struggling with the math.

FWIW my family and my neighborhood - based on the calls and vms I've gotten as until April I won't have much time to socialize - agree wuth me and stand behind Pelosi and the Democratic Party. Even my Cousin Astrid in Vienna emailed me regarding her approval of Pelosi's actions. It's all about getting a Democrat in now to right the sinking ship of USA. Rob

Other areas, I don't know - I'm being neighborhood specific. Rob

I love that, with all the real things going on, people are caught up discussing a lack-of-handshake, and the ripping up of a piece of paper....

Now THIS is funny as hell. Her actions DURING the speech are socially acceptable behavior?

No one who cares about real things, reality, facts etc. bothers to watch Trump bloviate at all.
But we need to find out how badly he's going to screw us? Not really, we know it will be the worst he can can do. I need to find that out like I need to hear how a serial killer wants to dismember people. No I don't, I rather want society protected from them, same with Trump.

Hmmm, it didn't occur to me to ask our Swiss cousin Eric who made his fortune in the USA and then moved back to Switzerland with his young family what he thought of Nancy Pelosi’s act.
But given the fact that Eric always supported Arnold Schwtzennager loud and proud, and is himself a slick real estate and entrepreneurial salesman of health care services, I am betting he is a trump fan, as he is a fan of America.

I've already posted that my family worries for my continued health and physical safety in (as my Cousin Astrid in Vienna puts it) "that strange alien land" - gotta say that statement can be a bit annoying even to me as I've learnt more unsavory things regarding Austria's role in the Holocaust. OTOH, with Trump at the helm, I could not agree more. In many respects, America is a strange, alien land - though I can understand that the police are not quite as murderous here as in Central America so to caravan members this is a few bumps up. To anyone who has lived here and struggled here, Trump is bad news. Rob
A friend of mine from Europe that moved here 3 years ago said much of Europe hates and doesn’t understand how we elected him. That reminds me of being on a train in England and having another American tourist behind us loudly telling the locals that she hated GWB and didn't know anyone who voted for him. My wife turned around, held out her hand for shaking and said "Hi, my name is Teri and I voted for him." The locals got a kick out of that.

Sounds like you and your Austrian relations feed each others paranoia.
Is it wrong that I care so little about whether Europe approves or not?
I think the whole circus on both sides is bizarre and embarrassing and does not bode well for the future. I also have a sense that we the little people don't have much of a clue about what is going on behind the scenes. I am thinking perhaps robots could do a better job as future leaders.

Pelosi is not noble. She never wanted to impeach until her establishment buddy Biden and his overpaid hack son were targeted. Then all of a sudden we had a constitutional crisis.

Rob, it really isnt your Cousin Astrid who appears to me to be a figure of fun. I dont know her.Astrid and I are fairly close - close as we can be with me 13 hours plus flight time on British Airways away. She has always been decent to me. We even share a funky bond - she is 8 days oldet than me. And she's anti Holocaust and pro-peace. Rob
Tell them most Americans do not understand either.
I don't know how far "most" goes, but he apparently still has a strong base that was unaffected by the impeachment trials and did win the election. And he seems to have the support of his GOP Senate majority. But there are at least a lot of us who don't understand.
And she's anti Holocaust and pro-peace. Rob So she's in favor of letting the Jews, gays, gypsies and disabled live and doesn't want to kill anyone herself? Now that's a keeper!
Most of our allies are no more because of the moron.
Which are “no more”? And I’m not talking about snarky gossip, but practical impact. Have they pulled out of NATO? Abrogated some treaty? Aligned themselves with the Russians or Chinese? I would think so many of them have been so lax in preparing to defend themselves that becoming “allies no more” wouldn’t be a wise option.
No doubt the race to the bottom will continue when Trump gets acquitted.
It wasn’t a “true” trial. trump was right when he said he could kill someone and he would get away with it. Our democracy is doomed with a narcissistic czar “wanna be” in power. trump now feels invincible. Romney was the only one with balls!

trump is aligning us with Russia and China! And, in the process of alienating the rest of the world.
Russia but not China. He slapped tariffs on China.
Russians are being killed in Ukraine and Syria by people supplied with US weapons. The prior administration got caught on a hot mic promising Putin further “flexibility”. Some of those alienated allies are ever so slowly moving to honor their commitments on seeing to their own defense.

Lose his pension? From a reassignment? I know Rob loves that sort of thing but it seems to be quite a stretch in the real world.
But, I also understand how media outlets love to mis-report things like this. They've been reporting his firing off and on since November. https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/vindman-fired-nsc/
I'm glad Vindman's father's concern was misplaced. I hope the "reassignment" goes smoothly. It concerns me that Trump suddenly has a hand in it--but that's probably--as I said--just floated to make him look omnipotent. Which, unfortunately, he nearly is.
