I am suspicious of the Iowa caucus too because of the fiasco.
The requirement to provide actual vote totals to the public seems to have been a step too far for the Iowa Democrats. I understand that in previous election years they were able to provide delegate numbers within an hour or two. Other than transparency, I wonder what's changed?

Too much smoke in the smoke-filled back room to properly "count"?
I find him creepy. He thinks he is our gift. I would have loved there to have been witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial and they could have
started with his family. The more I hear the more corrupt they sound. I saw him lash out at a reporter and he did the poke poke with his
finger on the guys chest. So arrogant, don't mess with me gesture. He is a bully with high beam teeth. Not my choice.
Creepy is right. Who sneaks up behind strangers and kisses them on the head?

Nevada has caucuses and it would take a legislative change to get rid of them. So we are having early voting with them and it’s a cluster f***. Not enough volunteers and many don’t know how to use the iPads. No paper ballots. If you don’t choose 3 people they don’t count it. People waiting in line up to 4 hours. Many leave because they cannot wait. Biden is really tanking.

So, these caucuses aren't "elections" by any real measure.

No they aren't. If they were one-man-one-vote-without -discussion elections they would be primary elections. They are not primary elections.
I think the caucus process is interesting. But in our age of fast news as fast as can be, I suppose the caucus process which asks people to gather, talk anout their candidates, re-group, talk about the candidates, re-group again makes no one happy.

Early voting caucuses are different. You line up and when it’s your turn the volunteers input your top 3 choices. On caucus day it works like IL said.

The Iowa caucuses have been kind of a mess for awhile, but this year it was a mess multiplied by 10.
But in 2016:

It's looking more and more like Trump vs. Biden. I owe it to my Austrian grandfather ( who said something to my Mother in regards to voting in 1960 that has always stuck with me since I heard it) and the 85006 to vote Democrat and I will as I despise Trump. But it woukdn't be hard to just not vote this time around were it mot my my Grandfather's wise words and my involvement in my neighborhood. Biden is not my idea of a wise choice for the nomination. If you're really going to throw your vote away by not voting, why not at least do a write in of the candidate you wish would win? At least you'd be voicing your opinion, and hey, who knows ...

I agree...
If it helps, you can write me in.

For the first time in decades
i did not vote last Tuesday. And it probably matters because it in the back of my mind it seems like the primaries are when third parties get some juice for future recognition. So I should’ve gone in to grab a libertarian ballot and submit it. But I was out of town and didn’t really feel like rushing back to vote.

I can’t tell you what to say, but I can tell you that voting for a non-Dem or Republican
candidate is not “throwing my vote away” and that phrase is extremely annoying to me.
so carry on, annoying me!

so carry on, annoying me!What I meant was that Rob suggested he's not going to vote at all, which *is* throwing his vote away. I'm suggesting that rather than not voting, he should make his displeasure known by voting for someone he does believe in, and well who knows, maybe enough other people feel the same way.

ah sorry, I didnt read carefully. There ARE those here who consider voting anything other than two party (or anything other than Dem really! ) to be “throwing your vote away.”
I expect to vote either Green or Libertarian in November.

Yes. Why waste your time to vote at all for a person that has a snowball chance in hell of winning. Redundancy.

If a third party reaches certain threshold they can maintain party status in a state, get their own primary, qualify for Federal funding from the check off box on your taxes, etc. There is also the matter of conscience, and knowing you respected all those people who gave their lives to ensure your right to vote, whilst not voting for dishonest and otherwise repugnant candidates.
I have a long history of protest voting--John Anderson, Shirley Chisholm, others I don't remember. But this election is way too important for--IMO--frivolous gestures.
I'm no Joe Biden partisan--Democrats had a platoon of smart, worthy candidates. It is beyond me that this nebbish is the last (white, old) man standing.
I predict we will be hearing a lot of Article 25 talk during a Biden administration.

I thought that might happen last time, Green party get 2%, it did not.
It really depends on how angry I am Trump that day I think. You might get people to vote but not many people are going to enthusiastically campaign for Biden, they would have for Sanders. You will get people to reluctantly vote LOTE and that may not be enough. Of course in a world where everyone is afraid to see people anyway ... And oh I shouldn't make decisions that day, it's terribly important, since when is it terribly important in California? Mind you though my hate of Trump is often strong, so hate trumps Trump. The only risk is enough deep deep blue state voters get alienated that they don't even vote for Biden. Super unlikely as there is very little Republican presence for Republicans to win, however remember this state went fairly strongly for Sanders (and he had bumper stickers, and tabling etc. and Biden had nada). So gonna be some alienated voters. And then maybe Trump loses the popular vote and wins the electoral college. All the California voters in the world won't help there probably.
I predict we will be hearing a lot of Article 25 talk during a Biden administration.
True. Republicans are great are projection.

Then you lose your voice to bitch about trump. You are enabling him.

Not at all. Unlike you I understand how the electoral college works. I refuse to hold my nose and vote and in my state I can proudly vote my conscience. Voting is a pleasure for me.

If I vote for Biden do I lose the right to complain about anything Biden does? I want to make sure to vote in a way that I still have a right to complain about bad policy no matter who wins. But it seems my right to complain is going to be curtailed no matter who I vote for, or even if I don't vote.
Then you lose your voice to bitch about trump. You are enabling him.
This is nonsense. In America, your right to bitch is absolute whether you voted for a major party candidate or not.

You, obviously, missed the point. Vote for who you think can beat trump. Vote for someone who OBVIOUSLY wii not make the cut.. then shut up about trump... you helped re-elect him.
Frugal-one, have you also taken a class in our First Amendment right to complain about the government?

You don't have any right to complain if you don't vote for the person you think can win. trump will be re-elected because of people like you.
You don't have any right to complain if you don't vote for the person you think can win.
That is a toxic narrative.

I have every right. Read the Constitution. Mr. Khan has a copy if you need to borrow one.

Thanks to the founders concerns for racists or Wyoming (depending on who you ask) many of us live in states where we absolutely can vote for anyone in the election with no ramifications for the final result.

I suppose I could move to Ohio or Wisconsin or some other swing state, but in the meantime my vote is meaningless. California will, with absolute certainty, send it’s electors for the Democratic nominee no matter who I vote for. So no, my vote will have NO ramifications unless I move.

That’s funny JP, I almost wrote that same thing to you to say hey you could move to another state to give your vote more impact. But then I thought oh that’s pretty extreme no one’s going to move states for the sole reason of voter impact.
I have had fantasies of moving to Dixville Notch.
