Yes, the Mardi Gras drunkfest.

St. Louis has the 2nd largest Mardi Gras celebration in this country, held in the neighborhood next to mine so it all spills over to my block.

Let the beads, boobs and beer begin.

When I lived in Pennsylvania, I discovered fastnachts… And in Milwaukee paczkis are prized on this splendid occasion!

A friend has a yearly Mardi Gras party (as well as Dia de los Muertos, etc.) I've never celebrated it, but may do Lent this year.
Is a kinkling similar to a beignet?

A kinkling is sort of like a beignet...but greasier. Yes, Kay we live in western /northern Fred. County. I love it...been here since 1970 and in this house since 1973. Husband is a native Fredericktonian. I came from the suburbs of Pgh. What about you?

So far today hordes of revelers are walking through my neighborhood on their way to the drunkfest nearby. My foster dog is hearing all of the activity Outside and is barking his head off. Actually that’s good for him and gives him something to do and keeps him busy

He is mostly inside, but I did put him outside a few times for about 10 minutes at a time. Dogs barking, groups screaming, car doors slamming—its all part of the revelry.

I went for a walk around the park yesterday and one girl was sitting on the ground with her head in her hands about ready to pass out. Several feet down from her another kid, a young man, was standing and swaying, staring at the ground. He was about ready to collapse. Each had a group of friends watching them. The drinking has been going on all day.

I'm old. I'd be all about the food.

I used to go to St.Patrick revelries, but those were so crowded--shoulder to shoulder--that it took forever to get served, so we never got too tipsy. All great fun, though.

Headphones are on my head, and wwoz is streaming. The musicians are howling on stage, while playing "Just get on up y'all!".

I wish all sweetness on mardi gras.

I throw a Mardi Gras party at my office every year. We decorate, all wear purple, green and gold, the day starts with a "second line parade" thru the office where we hand out beads and "faux begneits" (donut holes sprinkled with powdered sugar), then move on to virgin Bloody Marys and Mimosas. For lunch, it is potluck, but we always have gumbo, cornbread and King Cake. And my boombox is playing hot New Orleans jazz all day. My office (and I) love it. It is a day to be happy; to take an ordinary day and be exuberant about life and celebration. No booze needed!
