View Full Version : Quarantine Daily To-Do List and Bookending
I have an underlying condition and will be working from home for the foreseeable future - for at least 3 months, I would guess.
My 9-year-old daughter's school has been cancelled for the rest of the year.
I REALLY need structure and accountability, so I'm going to post a daily to-do list here then come back here at the end of the day to report on how I did.
Anybody else want to join in?
For today:
1. make bed, draw curtains, swish and swipe bathroom
2. meditate, pray, spiritual reading
3. 5 hours of grading (can include time watching videos of how to grade online)
4. 30 min walk
5. One hour decluttering/tidying up the house

Hi EJ! My circumstances are quite different as a retiree, but I think I could probably benefit from a regular check-in. I spent most of this week hanging out at home (other than some errands yesterday), and I'm dismayed at how little I have accomplished.
I don't have any trouble accomplishing certain daily routine tasks like bed-making, cleaning litter boxes and doing dishes, but I'm spending way too much time online, especially since this Corona Virus has taken off. Since I'm not running the CDC or anything, there is no need for me to be right on top of events every minute of every day. Maybe some accountability will help get me into a more productive mode!
I have always been a list maker but being retired has seriously limited the things I "have" to do. One thing that is bothering me is that I never made the "death" book we talked about some time ago with info for heirs and survivors. I really should take care of that - no excuses now. A daily walk is mandatory...

Hi Rosarugosa,
Yes, part of this is that if I have a plan for the day, I might be less likely to spend hours online which is definitely not good for me right now.
Feel free to set some baby step goals to give yourself a little structure.
Elizabeth

Hi Pinktoe - my daughter and I have been walking together every day, and it has made a huge difference in my mental state!
So, I didn't walk on water or anything, but I did okay:
1. make bed, draw curtains, swish and swipe bathroom DONE - only because I'd posted it here!
2. meditate, pray, spiritual reading DONE
3. 5 hours of grading (can include time watching videos of how to grade online) I did closer to 3 hours.
4. 30 min walk NOT DONE
5. One hour decluttering/tidying up the house NOT DONE
Other stuff I did:
1. Attended two online meetings about teaching online.
2. Met over the phone with a bank officer about getting a HELOC
3. Sent out an email to some friends about starting a book group
I wish I could figure out how to cross off the items I accomplished here, but oh well.
I'm definitely going to do this again tomorrow. It was a good nudge.

In addition to my usual daily tasks, today I will also:
Grocery shop (if it's a madhouse like last Fri, we will postpone) and deliver groceries to Mom, visit with her for a bit
Strip bed, wash linens, etc.
Complete most (if not all) of my weekly housecleaning
Today I plan to
copyedit a course I am revising for one hour only
deep clean my bedroom
do a load of laundry
cook a turkey so we can make dogfood and eat off it all week

I am finally quilting all my projects. Might have 100. It is a computerized long arm so I can do 3-4 per day of the smaller and one per day of the big.
Well, I closed the gallery starting last Sunday (with blessings from the owners). Most of Madrid is closed down, being that it is a tourist town where we get people from all over the country (and world) for that matter. This week it would have started to get busy again from the spring-breakers, and that is precisely why many of us have shuttered the doors. The average age of residents here is 55, and many are in poor health due to decades of drinking and smoking.
K. has been working from home now since Monday, as he is over 60 and a Type I diabetic (his job is safe; he is a government contractor in the Dept of Energy on the Airforce base here). We set up an office in the living room - it is very pleasant there with big windows.
Meanwhile, you'd think this would be a great time for me to make jewelry and play endless guitar, but alas, it is not to be. My wrists and hands have been very bad lately, so I am taking a break from those activities. Instaed I have been doing a lot of clean up and landscaping in our huge yard - I LOVE doing it, but it is also very bad for my hands and wrists. Yesterday it snowed and today it is sunny but way too windy so I am taking a break from that as well.
So what to do with all my oodles of time:
I wake up around 7am, make coffee, allow myself to read the days news and Facebook for an hour or so. Then I do what I need to do to start the day, meaning get out of my pajamas at a reasonable time, wash up, do the dishes, get dressed by 9am. Each day I try to have a project planned out; today I was going to deep clean the cars, but as I wait for the wind to die down I might tackle hand-hemming (no sewing machine) a curtain I got at the thrift store last month and sew a button back onto the duvet cover.
There are still many little painting projects to do, many organizing projects in the studio to complete, and a friend just loaned me her negative scanner so I can start scanning my old 35mm negatives that I took in art school back in the '80's!
I have commandered (sp?) the kitchen and do all the dinner cooking now because I am really good at stretching things out! We had been stockpiling for weeks ahead of many people so we are pretty set for awhile, but the fresh produce is going to run out soon.
So I am pretty set for now. I can't think of a better place to ride out a pandemic than our little acre of high desert in New Mexico!
Perfect--that sounds ever so safe and cozy, SiouzQ.
My plan is to finish the first draft of a book review, make a batch of chai, and now that my sewing machine is back from the repair shop I can work on husband's suit. That's enough to get me through Sunday.
Today I plan to
copyedit a course I am revising for one hour only done, but did 3 hours
deep clean my bedroom not even started
do a load of laundry done
cook a turkey so we can make dogfood and eat off it all week done done
Tomorrow I will pick three things only

I cancelled all hotel reservations for the myriad conferences jam-packed into my month of May:
Regional Iris convention in Kansas City, National Garden club conference in Milwaukee, American Iris Society conference in Newark. The state NGC convention was close enough that I didn’t have to stay in a hotel.
I had not yet made airplane reservations for Newark.
Our North American Lily Society conference in Ontario in ?July hasn’t been cancelled.

There are those of us with oodles of time, like Siouzie Q says. I feel so sorry for those out there in the world running around to keep the world afloat, like Tammy for instance.
So I guess I am “helping” by staying at home, keeping out of the way of this virus, so that the Tammies of the world won’t have to triage my hospital treatment.
I got called to do an dog pick up at County animal control next Monday, and I’m not happy about venturing out to do that, but it has to be done, so I’m putting it under the heading of “essential trip.”
What a week. And I’m on call this weekend. I’m going to sleep soon, before 7:30 pm. 😴 💤

I have just been to depressed to really do anything except grade. My husband and I did play a fun game today. I need to clean but what’s the point.
Today I will
call my dad in the nursing home and try to speak to both of them
do another hour on the copyediting
deep clean bedroom

I can understand. I'm trying to force myself to do stuff - anything. Just to keep busy and make the day pass.
I'm doing the spring cleaning that I never actually get to, because once the weather gets nice I want to be outside playing in the dirt. Yesterday it was doing a deep clean of the finished part of the basement, including getting the bugs out of the fluorescent light fixtures. Today, its putting the screens back in the windows, so once its nice we are ready to go.
Great idea ecjhase and good morning to the rest of you!
Being over 70 I am staying in!
Dd insisted on doing the shopping but, not sure she is really
the healthiest of the two of us...sadly!
But, she is being as careful as possible and not going for anything but essentials.
Well, I discovered Youtube to watch on the TV and whoa it is an endless source
of EVERYthing you would want to know....lol.
I have never been a quilter and NOW I am an expert at strip and crumb quilting
and so much more.
Joking aside I have starting to some unfinished projects and spring cleaning/decluttering.
Like some I don't have issues with the everyday but it is doing more and being accountable
that I find hard.
For today:
--1/2 hour sewing (back doesn't allow for much more then that but, surprising how much
it ends up being if you do that much)
--2 loads of wash
--20 min walk
--20 min of Richard Simmons on You Tube....lol...there is good stuff on there too
--1 small on line job for my charity group that I have been putting off.
--60 mins of cleaning and decluttering
See you all tonight
Thanks for mentioning deepcleaning the basement, herbgeek! My husband promised me an hour a day of cleaning and I think that should be our next project.
Danna, thanks for mentioning sewing for 20 minutes a day. I have set up my Featherweight--actually it's my mom's, as mine is more finicky and hers works better--and I have a quilt in progress. But half an hour a day to sewing, which with clean up and put away means only 20 minutes, is probably more doable than 2 hours or something.
Wow! This thread exploded! I am so happy.
I haven't read all your posts yet, but I will.
Today I will:
1. make bed, pull curtains, swish and swipe bathroom
2. meditate, pray, and do spiritual reading
3. Finish grading all quiz grade assignments for 101
4. Finish grading all quiz grade assignments for morning 102
5. Finish grading all quiz grade assignments for afternoon 102
6. Learn about Name Coach and post announcement about it
7. Post announcement about Google Chrome
8. Post MLA video
9. Post quotation integration information
10. Take a walk with my daughter
11. Text Martha
12. Order plants for garden with my daughter
13. One hour decluttering
14. Do yoga
This is definitely overly ambitious - especially since my brother may come by for a visit - and my daughter is here with me. But I don't think I have the mental energy to pare it down.

Oh my goodness, ejchase, your list stresses ME out!! Does it help to put all of these on there? I don't write down things I normally do, and it looks like you do? But I wanted to put three important things a day and get to those so I would feel accomplished.
I'm a teacher, too, but we are actually on Spring Break, scheduled until Monday, then Spring Break goes on another week. I had a student write me yesterday and want me to open up assignments for her as she said she is "bored" at home.
I had already sent out announcement as to our new schedule and there was plenty she could do on there. I made a lengthy, formal reply as to how she needs to read the announcements and there is plenty there to do, and we are on Spring Break, etc. I even have my auto-replies set.
This kind of ticks me off, as changing assignment schedule is complex, and if I start opening things that would not normally be open, other students will be freaking out, and I am trying to keep everyone as low stress as possible.
So there went half an hour of my life dealing with her request, and then she wrote me a very passive aggressive response about she likes to be proactive.
It just gets me that some people refuse to see that they are not the only one in a situation, and they are part of a group, and I am moving the group along in a planned out fashion.
I've had to do this the past four years because of hurricanes, and I know what a mess it creates when I go off script and start letting students work ahead on assignments that may have to go by the wayside, if the schedule changes again.
I had a student write me yesterday and want me to open up assignments for her as she said she is "bored" at home.
Just a thought here. You're on Spring Break. Is there any school requirement that you be available during that time to respond to students? If you had taken a vacation during this time, would you still have had to log in to check for messages?
My point being, sometimes things are on our lists because we think they "should" be done. But sometimes those "shoulds" exist only in our heads. Just because someone requests something of you, it doesn't obligate you to give up your time to do what they ask. You can, of course, do that because you want to. But also free to ignore the request.

Tybee: DH and I were talking about this yesterday, and I guess it varies by person what is helpful to put on one's list, or even whether an actual list is helpful or not. I love lists! DH hates them! I don't write down "Make bed" because I can't NOT make my bed. The last time I was sick in bed (lucky me, a rare event, maybe 5 years ago or even longer), when I rallied a bit, I got up, made the bed and took a shower before going back to bed. I am like a little robot in many respects.
I do try not to schedule as much drudgery on the weekends as I used to, since I'm retired and DH works all week. The only "extra" things on my list for today are to do some yard clean-up and try to decide placement for our latest carpentry projects, or even whether our house can accommodate them. I need DH to give me a hand with moving those around (wooden storage ottomans).
My every day things are make bed, clean litter boxes, change water in cats' dishes, take a walk with DH or somehow get my 10,000 steps, tidy up a bit, and one or the other of us washes dishes.
PS: I did get all my things done yesterday.

Yes, our dean told us we needed to work over spring break allaying student fears, rescheduling our coursework, and adapting our courses to online if they are not already. This is all unpaid labor. If one has to adapt a course to online, it is many, many hours of unpaid labor.
Since I really need this job and depend on it, I have to do it.
But the student was a jerk the first week of class before all this hit, so is just extending his jerkiness into my time off. You can't really avoid dealing with the jerks, although I would like to. But I do need the job and especially now, with my IRA hit so hard.

Ugh. Sorry Tybee. That really sucks.
I was going to quilt my pile of quilts and now the machine does not work right. Too stressed to figure it out so will wait. Hope it does not need a home visit technician.
Then I was going to set up my sewing room since we kicked out the cats. Cannot find the power cord for my machine. Have ordered another one but wont be here till end of next week.
Lost my favorite pair of scissors.
Good things: Basic tiling all done. Will be grouted on Monday.

I did my daily stuff and DH and I decided where to place one ottoman. It really makes the room look so much nicer and it hasn't even been painted or had the cushion added yet!
We will give the other one to my sister (she had said she would like one if we decided not to use both). I decided to skip the leaves for today, and DH was very supportive because I think he was afraid I would expect him to help. ;)
We had a nice walk and saw some kingfishers, a hoodie and a couple of hawks. We get so much pleasure from bird watching, between our feeders and our walks and living by the river, we get to see a lot of cool birds.
Send a picture of the ottoman--can you store things in it, like extra linens for a fold-out couch?
Talked to my dad and mom. They are okay. He says they are doing a really good job caring for him and he is embarrassed they are requiring so much extra concern.
Deep cleaned bedroom--took an hour and a half.
Edited for an hour and a half.
Now it's time to go to bed; I have bronchitis, so I need to go get under the covers to stave off the chills!

Terry I am going to bed with nothing planned for 36 hours!
I finally defrosted our extra freezer. I should have done it while it was freezer temperatures outside, but ... whatever. It is done now, I know what I have in there, and I have room to fill up as I shop for groceries (my aim is to use up the old stuff and keep it full; so far that's worked well for meal planning).
Bonus: I haven't been in a grocery store in eight days and I probably won't "need" to visit one until Tuesday. Usually I'm in one store or another 2-3 times a week. This undoubtedly is saving some money, which is good because we kind of ran up the grocery budget getting ready to stay at home.

Hi everybody - I need to hold myself more accountable, so I'm joining in. I've been off work since the end of January (paid until April 20) and then I'm going to retire. Struggling with the paperwork, which I hate... which is neither here nor there. DD is not working, as the museum is closed. She and DH are NOT used to me being here all day and it's been an adjustment for us all. I am NOT getting much done - I can't believe how many ways there are to fritter away time! So I've been making lists and trying to get at least SOME stuff accomplished. Today: repaired a box of vintage Easter decorations that were mine as a child; priced a box of items for one antique booth (one of the malls we're in is closed, one is open), updated my spreadsheet, wrote in journal, ran dishwasher. (See what I mean about frittering away time??)
Tomorrow:
run errands (Store/bank drop, pick up some of my beef from DB's freezer), thaw some of the beef and grind for hamburgers, change our bed linens, put away clean dishes, take three boxes of stuff upstairs, journal
So inspired by all of you! Here's my report:
1. make bed, pull curtains, swish and swipe bathroom DONE
2. meditate, pray, and do spiritual reading NOT DONE
3. Finish grading all quiz grade assignments for 101 NOT QUITE BUT MADE GOOD PROGRESS
4. Finish grading all quiz grade assignments for morning 102 NOT DONE
5. Finish grading all quiz grade assignments for afternoon 102 NOT DONE
6. Learn about Name Coach and post announcement about it DONE
7. Post announcement about Google Chrome DONE

10. Take a walk with my daughter DONE - AND ENJOYED!
11. Text Martha - DONE
12. Order plants for garden with my daughter NOT DONE
13. One hour decluttering - DONE - AND IT WAS SO CALMING! BEST THING I DID ALL DAY!
14. Do yoga GOING TO DO A LITTLE NOW
I'm pooped! Going to bed!
I feel that I need my to-do list LESS during quarantine! I feel this huge pull just to relax and "be"--kind of the way I feel when I'm on a long flight--where's nothing much I can do, so I may as well intentionally let go of those nagging mental gnats of "have-to-do's" and "should-do's" and just do "want-to-do's". My heart rate has already done down.
I realize that many still can't do this--people having to adjust to working from home online, healthcare workers, all the industries keeping us afloat, but until I get another client call for a new job, I'm, in effect, on furlough. What's more, I HAVE to stay home. DH is the kind of guy who can't sit still, hates being home all day, and usually insists on "doing something."
For once, we have to just settle in and be happy with it, which I am.
That being said, what an opportunity for garden planning, fixing up the house (cleaning, painting), reading, etc. For as long as I can, I'm going to try to go back to living as I did during my summers with my aunt, taking a good enough amount of time to prepare and eat; spending time outside; working on hobbies and interests such as drawing, sewing, reading; and going with the flow of the day.
I will report back on this challenge to mark alignment with progress with those goals, but I'm not going to write a daily list or check off anything as done. My do-to list can shelter in place for a while!
I love reading what everyone else is doing here!
My list for March 22, 2020
--30 min of sewing
--20 min of exercise
--30 yard working
--batch cook potatoes bought on sale
--batch cook a large bag of red onions.
--contact 3 people just to touch base
--write my weekly email to my TOPS Chapter (No meetings but, we can still keep doing this)
See you all tonight have a great day!

Wow, EJ and Danna have sure been productive! I don't have much planned for today, just a cozy day at home with DH. I have some small stuff to do like pay few bills, wash lettuce, make a couple of salads and grind some coffee. Nothing epic on the agenda. Have a lovely Sunday everyone!
I actually have to start teaching online tomorrow, so today is mostly a work day. Here's my list:
1. make bed, pull curtains, swish and swipe bathroom
2. meditate, pray, and do spiritual reading
3. Grade one set of journal entries for morning 102
4. Grade one set of journal entries for afternoon 102
6. Make up discussion questions for tomorrow's class on Heavy
7. Make up discussion questions (maybe just five) on Sorry to Bother You focusing on power and peril
8. Learn how to set up breakout groups in discussion board in Canvas
9. Post quotation integration information on Canvas
10. Take a walk with my daughter
11. Play a game of Scrabble with my daughter (shouldn't have to put this on a to-do list, but it's a reminder to myself to just stop and take family time today, and this is what she wants to do)
12. Email 101 students who haven't been checking in on Canvas through People Soft
13. Lead discussion group on Sorry to Bother You
14. Learn how to grade on Canvas - watch videos
Got up. Made coffee. Drinking same.
Thinking about making a meal.
May do taxes later.
Ugh - I despise doing taxes. I’m fully able to do them, but there is a mental/emotional block about the bureaucracy of it all. So yesterday I shared my Dropbox files with our accountant son and he did them for me. We’re paying him. They were e-filed and accepted within a few hours. He loved the distraction and I love not dealing with it.
Mine take less than an hour, but filling out the forms is one of those "impossible tasks" it's so easy to put off.
I also hate doing our taxes and almost always end up waiting until the last minute to get them done. But, I did them yesterday and am relieved to see it's almost a wash, owing the state $50 more than my federal return.
From yesterday:
1. make bed, pull curtains, swish and swipe bathroom DONE
2. meditate, pray, and do spiritual reading DONE EXCEPT FOR THE READING
3. Grade one set of journal entries for morning 102 NOT DONE
4. Grade one set of journal entries for afternoon 102 NOT DONE

Make two phone calls relating to needed retirement info
I pretty much am just on the internet, or watching Netflix/amazon prime. I was getting ready to move, taking
things out to the airport for storage, planning things for the new house, looking at boats.
Now our closing date has been pushed back to 4/20, so I’m not moving anything else for a while. A lot can happen between now and then obviously.
I finished my taxes and owed another $4500, I didn’t think at the time about starting SS, I guess I’ll have to remember to adjust for that next year.

Well since it appears I am not dying anytime soon I decided to get it together and start cleaning:)). Cleaned the kitchen and dining room. Been walking the dogs daily, doing laundry and still having fun playing board games with DH. My husband’s ex is really sick from chemo and both kids live out of town so we are doing all her errands. My plan is to clean a few rooms every day until I catch up.

Good for you for tackling the cleaning! I cleaned the bathroom today and took it easy as still sick. Husband slept all day as he has the same thing I do. We just took the dogs out in the yard for a run but he is too grumpy to play a board game.
Bless you for taking care of husband's ex--that is a lovely thing to do.
I took day off from working because of being sick.
Tomorrow if I feel better will work for an hour at each job and start cleaning the basement. Maybe.

Tybee, I think you should not clean until you are well. It will wait for you. Tomorrow DH takes his ex to her oncology appointment. My youngest step son is relieved that we are helping. She is in bad shape and he is worried sick.
March 24th
Big shout out and Thank you to Alan for getting me back on here!
Not sure why but, the site would not take my password or even a new one.
So, no excuses today!
--Sew 30 min
--exercise 20 min
--give my house a good general tidy up dust etc.
--start of sort out of clothes...that was on my list earlier this week but, didn't get to!
--clean out fridge
Glad to back.
--cook a pot of turkey soup (last bag of bones from the freezer)
My plan is to finish the first draft of a book review, make a batch of chai, and now that my sewing machine is back from the repair shop I can work on husband's suit. That's enough to get me through Sunday.
Did everything except the first draft.
Tonight's plans are complete first draft, sew waistband on husband's trousers for suit, and work on questions for a phone interview tomorrow morning. No plans beyond that since we received bad news and need to see what happens next.
Life just gave us a kick in the head, so no new plans until we figure out what's next.

I'm sorry to hear that, Hana.
I decided to take a break from all the intensive yard work as of late (really, the condition of my wrists decided it for me) and took a drive into Santa Fe for some errand-running. On the way I stopped at the Post Office to pick up our mail and was glad to see the two face masks my friend from Michigan sewed for me had arrived. Next was a stop to buy some fresh ranch eggs from a friend; I tried out my new mask and used paper towels to receive the egg carton from her. Then stopped for gas (used a paper towel to handle the gas pump), stopped at the booze store where I wore full PPE regalia to buy a six-pack and a bottle of wine (I really don't care if people think I am weird). I saw so many people out and about not taking any precautions it is kind of freaking me out! New Mexico has a pretty dicey health care system under normal circumstances and it will not take much to completely overwhelm it!
I then picked up some prescriptions (drive-thru), deposited some checks at the bank (drive-thru) and decided to take a drive up into the Sangre de Christo mountains that are just east of Santa Fe - there is nothing about sheltering-in-place that says you can't go for a nice drive! I ate a PB & J sandwich at a completely empty picnic area and laid down right on top of the picnic table to enjoy the sun and listen to the birds calling and the wind in the Ponderosa pines. I continued on up until I reached the overlook by the ski area and gazed out over the beautiful horizon and didn't really have much on my mind other than enjoying a beautiful day!

Did more cleaning today and beat my husband at a game. I am getting better. At first he was beating me all the time. We now have to shelter in place. We were anyways.

I took your advice, Terry, and did not clean. Did wash the sheets so that was a good thing. Did not do any work today, just couldn't care about it. Lay in bed a bit; my oxygen levels are going down below 90, so I'm feeling listless.

Tybee when I had the flu 2 years ago I did nothing for a couple of weeks. You need to take care of yourself.
I will get back to my lists tomorrow. Today was our opportunity to get some fresh produce and who would have ever imagined that grocery shopping could be so stressful. Lines out the kazoo, only so many allowed in, people rushing around and grabbing with fear of cootie faces. We won't go out again for quite some time it was so unpleasant but at least we have what we need for a few more weeks. Back to domesticity and gardening tomorrow before another snowstorm comes...

SiouzQ, your drive actually sounds lovely. I'm sorry to hear about your wrist challenges! And Hana, sorry you're dealing with a bad-news situation. It seems we are all facing our own sets of problems/set-backs/bad news, aren't we? I hope only that I can face mine with the grace and positivism most people here display. One of the reasons I come here! So today, I'm going to continue to plug away at all of the physical and mental "messes" in my current life, lol. today's goal:
1. Clear and clean the kitchen counter (a many-step endeavor) and vac/spot clean the kitchen floor.
2. Spend 20 min dealing with personal paperwork

early morning, glad you are here, and I agree about the grace and positivism; it is a nice respite from much of social media negativity.
You are inspiring me to do the clear and clean kitchen counter as I do my work on the kitchen counter these days and it's pretty cluttered.
So today's list
clear and clean kitchen counter
and that's it!
SiouzQ, your description of running errands sounds familiar. I don gloves, carry handfuls of wet wipes...I've given up on grocery pickup--can't get a date to save my life, had a few things delivered by Amazon/Whole Foods (half the items I ordered), and noticed a lot of price gouging everywhere from Safeway to Amazon. Fortunately, I have plenty of staples. You're intrepid--I'm not ready to brave a brick and mortar store.
Hooray for restorative drives!
Congrats to all of you taking any baby steps at all.
I'm going to shorten my list to just the things I am most wanting to avoid. The other stuff is more or less getting done.
The big thing for me is grading. I've had to teach myself to do online grading since the shutdown, and it's a little tricky. And I am completely behind on the grading for all my classes now.
I can get caught up if I commit to grading 6 essays and 1 set of journal entries or reading logs or other quiz assignments per day. So that's my goal for today, and I'll let you all know how I do. I also need to do 10 essays on Saturday.
The other two things I need to do is get my tax stuff together for my tax preparer. I know the deadline is extended, but I want to get it done. I also need to turn in receipts for my Health FSA and take the next steps in my HELOC application.
But today, I have two classes to teach, so I'm just going to focus on the grading and report back on how I did.
I’ve got three weeks now till moving. At least that’s the latest, it keeps getting moved back. The igniter on my gas cooktop quit working, my heater for my pool quit, and this morning my refrigerator quit working.
My grandkids are here, running wild, thank goodness the pool is warm enough.
I was a equity owner of a golf club that we sold for a nice sum. The only problem is we get paid over time by free dues at the golf club. We sold it to Allegiant Airlines. They recently just killed all the grass for a 9 million restoration. Guess what just went on hold.
And since we were getting ready to purchase a new home before we sold ours I moved some investments around that put me above the free money threshold and already sent in my taxes.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if our home sale falls thru.
But we are all still healthy and I’m sure this will pass.
My goal today is to get started on my resume.

Tybee, so tell us about the house?

Dnc, wow looks like you used up all your bad luck at once for awhile. Is the seller not willing to move?
Let me see where this bid process takes us first, then will report on details--its a new one on me and we're still trying to figure it out. Talk about a crazy time to do something out of state.
My project for today was grocery shopping and renewing a mineral supplement I take (OTC but not that commonly found). First time going anywhere in more than a week. For a city of 350,000 people in the middle of a metropolitan area of 3 million, I could have driven straight down the middle of every road for all the traffic I encountered. Minnesotans (Rosemary can corroborate) like to joke about how they're rules-followers. They certainly seem to be now.
Maybe four people in the CVS I visited (chosen purposely because it's big but pretty empty even when there's not a coronavirus going around). Tape on the carpet indicating where to stand. Nothing that resembles a cleaning product but their selection was vestigial at best. In, out, done.
Grocery store down the street is pretty well stocked on everything but paper products, most cleaning supplies (though there's still plenty of bleach), and "decent" ice cream (still plenty of the cheap stuff in big buckets and the "HOW much?!?" stuff in pints). Only two brands of eggs, two sizes of eggs, one 12-egg carton per customer per day (would have been nice if they mentioned that on the front door, along with the limit on TP, but these are trying times). Prices for eggs (and, suspiciously, other items) seemed higher than usual and several item facings no longer had prices listed on the shelf. The cashier was wearing disposable gloves which I suspect will not get changed through his shift unless something spills on them. He is trying (this store has a history of hiring some delayed-learning [term?] folks, for which I applaud them). Maybe half-a-dozen people shopping.
Second store about two miles away looks like they haven't had a delivery since I was in there last before this all began. The meat section is dwindling (but lots of seafood), they (curiously) were completely out of pre-cut pre-packaged fresh vegetables (no issue with the whole unwrapped veggies), and there's paper over the bulk section stating it's shut down for now (although you can still bulk-serve yourself coffee beans in the very next aisle). Limit two cartons on eggs, but no eggs to be found, not even the kind laid by free-range organically-fed Amish chickens and harvested by people whose families arrived on the Mayflower ($$$$ for being labor-intensive). Empty. So was the store; maybe half-a-dozen people here, too. The closest I got to anyone was the cashier.
I don't know if the Aldi down the street is better supplied (that likely will be next week's stop) but I have a funny feeling about the supply chain if producers and processors and truckers start getting hit hard by COVID-19. Maybe I should start looking into growing my own lettuce and radishes for salads. Anyway, lots of washing up later, that project is done. On to figure out whatever the next project should be.
Husband's suit mostly complete, need him to try it on so I can see if adjustments are needed. No progress on the book review.
Today's to do list
hem the trousers after husband tries them on
start the book review
1 hour sewing a quilt
find a place for library books so they don't get swallowed by our collection
Dnc, wow looks like you used up all your bad luck at once for awhile. Is the seller not willing to move?
The seller of the home I’m buying is going into assisted living. So she is not helpful, but her kids are moving her out. With the little time I’ve been around her she definatly has some dementia.
But actually the latest is me moving the closing date back. I was to close on the house I’m buying on 4/13, and sell mine on 4/20. But with everything going on I decided I didn’t want to take the chance that my buyer might back out. And if we are looking at a long recession I didn’t want to own a extra house. So I’m selling mine on 4/20 and buying on 4/21, hopefully.

Wednesday I got the counter mostly cleared and some paperwork done, but DD ran in to some medication snafus and we ended up making a run to the pharmacy and then Aldi, since we were out anyway. We're in a mostly rural area, so we really didn't notice a difference in traffic - there's seldom much unless there's a mess on the interstate, then we get some intrepid truckers looking to avoid the snarl. Pharmacy was a drive thru. Aldi was devoid of shoppers, though, which was nice! They were well stocked except for paper goods, which they are having problems getting. There was a limit of 4 cans of most tinned items, two dozen eggs per trip, but those were the only items I noticed signs on. We buy mainly fresh or frozen, and lots of cheese - none of those things were "rationed" and there was a plenty. Yesterday, my goal was to plant all the mail-order plants that arrived this week, ordered when I had a job and money, lol... And we got that finished before the rain. Today's goal is to work at least 30 min on paperwork, and to clean/clear the Great Shoe Dumping Zone.
Early morning, how cool you get to plant today! We are actually two months away from normal planting time, but we did see a bluebird on the bluebird house scouting it out, so that was a wonderful sign of spring.

yes, that is what I would do. Having too much asset tied up in real estate terrifies me.
i am relieved we unloaded our set of tiny houses 2 months ago.
While we do now have two houses, we do not of course have payments on them. Our Hermann house is simple and not much more expensive to own than the set of tiny houses in the city we just unloaded, even living there with utilities on.
We havent yet signed a contract with a contractor for renovation of our Hermann house.I am already thinking about ways to cut back on that, one being to have contractor build garage and “white box” the interior, and from there we subcontract the rest. And by “subcontracting” I do mean doing much of the work ourselves.

I could pay cash, but with interest rates where they are, and planning on $150,000 in updates, I figured I would borrow some. Also the dock and boat will probably be a additional $100,000-$150,000. Im thinking boat prices will probably be a little lower in a few months, so I may save a little there.

We went grocery shopping today. It is amazing to me that was once a mundane errand is now a death-defying challenge. DH and I sit in the car before we go in and discuss strategy. Got the sanitizer - check. List in my hand and that helps keep me from touching my face, in fact I hold it with both hands when I'm not reaching for something in the store. DH keeps both hands on the cart handle when not reaching for something. Credit card in my pocket so I don't have to be touching my wallet and everything in my purse while I am in **contaminated hands mode** in the store. Everyone in the store is civil and seems to be on the same page, do what needs to be done, keeping some degree of distance, although the 6 feet thing often is not feasible. Did not hear a single cough or sneeze the entire time we were in the store. Reusable bags are currently banned. Many people wearing masks and gloves, but most were not. Ran into our neighbor and had a pleasant chat which we continued on the street at home as we unloaded our cars. I was so excited to see toilet paper on the shelves, even though they were skimpy little packages, but that made it possible to spread a scarce resource further. I have toilet paper, but seeing it in the store after almost a month felt like a return to civilized life or something. (I think we have the makings of a stupid reality TV show where contestants go to a grocery store and if they touch their faces they DIE and if they get toilet paper they win some type of bonus - "A baby's arm holding an apple").
It was a beautiful day and I worked in the garden this afternoon. It was a much more serene experience!
Amazon/Whole Foods just delivered my order promptly--22 items, with only one substitution. That gives me confidence that I don't need to go to a brick and mortar store any time soon.

That was pretty much my feeling, too. Food shopping even used to be fun. It likely will be again someday. But these days, it's get in, pick up what you need or can find (gingerly), check out, and leave. Weird stuff like holding on to the list with both hands or using a disinfectant wipe (mine) to wipe the stylus I need to sign for the purchase. No interest in doing this again any time soon.
Went through my photos today and deleted probably 1K. I take a lot, plus there were lots of duplicates and such.

Rosa, that idea about credit card in your pocket is good. Your tips to remind yourself not to touch anything unnecessarily including your face are good too.
When we get home from the grocery store, we took off all of our clothes and I found them in the washing machine. I am wearing Plastic slip on shoes a lot because when I get home I can throw them in the dishwasher or in the washing machine. We also keep plastic bins at the front door in the back door for shoes, but that’s kind of a pain because we also need a chair on the front porch to sit down and put on shoes.
We go to the grocery store once a week no more often.

IL: Yes, we have agreed that there will be no quick runs for milk or bananas or whatever. If we run out of something, we will surely survive until the next week.
Steve: I give a virtual high five to Market Basket for their credit card checkout, whereby I insert card and then remove it. No stylus signing or screen tapping or anything like that. Costco also seems to have this down to a science, and with the Costco Citi visa, no need to even show or hand over my membership card anymore.
We do not remove or change clothes once we get home. I guess I would reconsider if sneezed upon or fondled by a stranger in the produce dept, but so far, so good.
Hana, you are seeing a manÂ’s suit!?! Wow, that is difficult.
I made a blazer for myself in 2004, unfortunately moths got to it in 2017. Want to remake it if I can find the fabric again. It was a gorgeous forest green. The original plan was to make the suit for a summer event overseas with a red carpet type thing, and I planned to make a matching dress. He's hoping to organize a smaller event closer to home to wear the suit. Bright side is I now get an extra three weeks to make it. Mock ups are my friend.
I finished and emailed the book review. Suit in progress
Plans for Tuesday

Not doing at all well this week with getting anything done. Monday, DH was going to gas up the truck and fill the gas cans for the first half of summer, since gas is way down - and the battery was dead. AAA took forever since the auto place closest is on skeleton staffing. Battery was an unexpected expense. Seems like I did nothing but cajole DH into NOT being totally bummed about this very minor complication. Tuesday, DD had to go run some reports to close the month for the museum, which was open for a week or so in March but is now closed. i went with her to do some tidying up but that short block of time in the middle of the day really screwed up my head as far as accomplishing anything. Yesterday was just me, in a funk, trying to finish up some work-related stuff before my severance runs out on the 20th, and accomplishing - again- almost nothing.
This really helps me when I'm in this all or nothing, stupid and crappy mood. I have too much to do, and all I do is THINK about it, thus getting even further behind. I know this about myself, but I still let my mind draw me into it. GAAHHH!!!!
SO - today - I will:
*call the county, AGAIN, to see if they pay out a percentage of sick leave on retirement
*compare the retirement insurance on offer (expensive, and doesn't cover my current doctors) with an Obama-care plan. I only need it for 18 mo, til I qualify for Medicare.
*journal for at least 5 minutes
*do a preliminary sort/file of at least ONE of the piles of papers I have waiting (I think I have 6 or 7, of varying sizes.....)
*finish minor repairs on some vintage Easter decorations
*mend a pair of DH's sleep pants
That's it. If anything else gets done, it's gravy.

Hana: I'm so sorry about your MIL.
I did the census online last week. Nice and easy.
Finally found a good workout video on YouTube that doesn't hurt my knees. I'd been getting my cardio on the recumbent bike at the gym. I could go 45 min without issue. Too many of the online workouts are not bad knee friendly. Joanna Soh, a 20-something woman in Asia, is FAB. She has a wide variety of workouts all all levels. I found a chair workout that's 30 minutes and had me sweating. I combined it with my dumbbeell squats, glute bridges (knee friendly lunge alternative), other core/lower body work, and my weights.

My three classes end at the end of April, and yes, they are keeping me sane.

Teaching 3 at once is a lot. I like one every semester like I had for a long time. Now I don’t have one scheduled until next year. I alternate between being unmotivated and then getting stuff done. I really miss going out and getting together with people. The phone is not the same.
Each day is sort of blending into the next for me finally on week 3 of being on "furlough" from the gallery. What I do each day depends on the condition of my hands and wrists, but so far I've been able to do a blend of yard work, cleaning, and a bit of guitar-playing. It's playing the guitar that kicks up the chronic tendonitis; I managed about an hour the other day, which was probably about 30 minutes too much, but once I get going, it is hard to put it down!
The disaster that happened last Sunday was that my eyeglasses got accidentally stepped on by my boyfriend and broke ( a long story, but all in the name of art). I know in the past I used to ponder occasionally about what would happen if my glasses broke during the zombie apocalypse; it really sucks!!!! I have been using my very strong readers (+4.50) in order to read and use the computer, but they are impossible to wear while walking around or driving or watching Netflix. My vision is very bad! Luckily, my optometrist found the same frames and is special ordering them; they should be here tomorrow so hopefully I can run into Santa Fe and have him put my lenses in by late tomorrow or Saturday. Not an expense that I was expecting, though...
The owners of the gallery are great; I got my full paycheck for the month yesterday plus a $100 raise! Of course I will not be getting any commission checks for my jewelry going forward while everything is closed, in fact I have a few places that owe me money from past sales that will take a LONG time to get paid, if ever...K. still has his job and will continue to have it, as he is a government contractor for the Dept. of Energy. Money-wise, we will do just fine, and of course I have a nice savings account that I have been building up for years. I am very lucky and feel very grateful.
Otherwise, I'm just getting used to the even slower pace of life than I already had, and enjoying watching spring come to our little high desert mountain paradise. It is very sobering to read the news these days - so far I only know one person who got the virus and luckily is recovering from it. It did send her to the hospital for a few days though. I am steeling myself for potential bad news regarding friends and loved ones going forward...

Got everything on my list accomplished except the insurance shopping. I also ground 10 pounds of beef, browned and froze it for future use. Cooked down a chicken carcass that had been in the freezer mocking me, and we had chicken with linguine for dinner. (Thought I had some dried spatzle but I was wrong.) Walked around in the yard a bit and picked up a few sticks, planned on where to move some of the more enthusiastic plants, etc. And finished re-watching the Harry Potter movies. All in all, a pretty good day.
I need to weld up something that I can pop into one of the floor vent covers, so I can use the furnace to dry socks. My shirts air dry fine overnight, and I know pants take a while, so I have a few pair hung up drying, but socks take forever.
And I'll go sockless before I put on wet socks at 5 am. No way.
Also need to get a clothesline set up.
. I really miss going out and getting together with people. The phone is not the same.
Me, too! I guess I am not the introvert I always thought I was.
SQ, are you no longer selling jewelry on-line?
DW also has been losing track of what day it is -- and she's sitting in front of her computer all day, working, with constant reminders. I suppose we've lost a lot of the structure we had ("It's Wednesday, it's dancing night"). I'm more used to an amorphous schedule but I notice I need to think a little longer about just which day it is, too.
Back on more of a schedule. Had to laugh. The ads from a few favourite stores keep reminding which day it is by stating that tomorrow, stating the day and date, these amazing specials will be in effect. I am actually appreciating the reminders but don't actually buy anything.
We put up our clothesline last week and it's wonderful hanging clothes outside again.
Just washed the sheets again and letting them dry in the sun.
May wash the dogs later.
Needed to get some stamps (I always send cards and letters out), but I ended up ordering off the USPS website. I always do that for my Christmas stamps. If they take a week to get here, that's OK.
I got a month of Amazon Prime for something like $2. Think I'm going to keep it, as ordering non-food stuff online is just so much better now.
I need to sort out my dress clothes, as when I go back to work, it mostly likely won't be in jeans like the old company.
@Steve: I never really have done much selling online; most of my pieces are in locked galleries right now. I am in the midst of taking a hiatus from smithing during the pandemic. I figure in a way it is a good time to get my wrists and hands to heal. Even before all this hit I had pulled out of two galleries because I just can't accomplish making enough jewelry these days to keep them stocked - I used the jewelry that was returned to me to restock the remaining galleries I am in (which are now closed). I have the feeling there is just not going to be a market for discretionary spending for a while anyway.
It makes sense for this to be a kind of farmer's winter for you. You do beautiful work; I hope more people see it when you feel better and we can all get out of our houses.
I was much amused by your mocking chicken carcass!
We put up our clothesline last week and it's wonderful hanging clothes outside again.
Just washed the sheets again and letting them dry in the sun.

Air dried clothes and clean dogs. Lol. The smells of spring!

Today was pretty busy. Conducted a meeting via phone, scanner, and email. Almost the last thing I needed to do before ties are severed with old job. Still trying to decide if I'm elated or pi$$ed that I'm no longer employed. A bit of both, I suppose. Anyway. Washed a load of laundry and hung it out. Cleared most of the winter debris from the patio. Planned to make a choc cheesecake-type dessert with a mix DSis gave me (she won it in a basket of stuff at a quarter auction) and it smelled vile when opened, so I composed it and we had a lemony concoction instead. Very tasty! I don't really like talking on the phone all that much, but since we can't get together in person, I called and chatted with 4 different family members. It was nice but very tiring. And again, I didn't get to the insurance shopping...maybe tomorrow! :~)
Tomorrow, besides insurance comparing, I plan to wash/hang out several loads of blankets, find the dining room table ( I KNOW I have one somewhere!!) and attack another stack of papers. Oh - and do another half-hour, at least, of yard work.

Today I am cleaning and organizing plant markers. In addition to marking plants I have maps of the important stuff. Between the deer and the weather, these markers don’t stay in one place.
