Yes or no? What's your take and why? Rob
Is it within the President’s power to impose one? Or just interstate travel/international travel?

Every governor should shutdown their state. The sooner we do this the sooner we will all get released.
If by nationwide lock down your thinking of an across the board stay at home and social distancing restrictions or recommendations, I think it should be a decision at the state level. My state is basically on lock down but we have several counties in rural and low population areas that have no or only one positive cases reported (so far). I think at some point soon those areas should be able to open up certain low traffic or low contact businesses that are now under the stay at home rules. I could see limiting certain interstate travel around hot spots.
At some point when all the restrictions are lifted, there's no guarantee the problem is going to disappear completely.

It's only so effective at a state level as state government can't entirely control the border to the state, so you can't prevent people from states that don't do lock down from traveling in.
Sweden is taking a novel approach, somewhere between no change at all and draconian lockdown. It will be interesting to see how it works out for them.
What do you mean by "national lockdown"?
A good part of the country is already under stay-at-home orders.
Orders from the feds, not the state governors.

Got an email from friend in Germany... lock down there too.
Most of the world is under lockdown at this time.
Orders from the feds, not the state governors.
The Feds can't even manage to get me N95 masks and protective gowns, I'm not sure they have the resources to implement a national-level "lockdown" without participation of the state governments. Perhaps some of those state governors will show proper appreciation and do well....

I understand Florida got 200% of the federal monies they asked for. Some other state got 12.5%. We probably got "Don't call me, I'll call you." It seems like Trump is doling out his largesse as if relief funds were personal favors from a vengeful mob boss. Kinda like Puerto Rico--he can throw paper towels at the supplicants who haven't "earned" better.

... not being able to implement hasn’t stopped pronouncements yet....

I think this would be a good time for Washington State and BC to split off on their own.

Arizona just went on a stay at home lockdown. Thank You Doug Ducey (Republican Governor of Arizona) for finally knuckling under and getting real. Rob
What's the length of the AZ stay at home order?

What's the length of the AZ stay at home order?Ducey is claiming one to two months but is giving no firm end date. Rob

How would it be enforced? How would this work on those where the border is across the street (state line road, grocery store across the street)? I think on a federal level, this would take an act of martial law, and I for one, don't wish to let them suspend my constitutional rights. (seems that Ben guy had a quote about freedom/security)
While a lockdown would slow the spread, how do you think it would stop it? This is a virus, with no current medicine, like a "flu shot" that will help prevent infection, or reinfection for those at risk. Until effective drugs are available, this will be a long term problem (years).
Surprised we are not seeing more "save the planet" people rejoicing, as a population reducing pandemic, will reduce the number of people using up resources.>8)
Also, how are you going to deal with those that are considered essential? We still move about in this and as on a border (or in the case of medical supplies, etc), things do have to move across state lines (you going to shut down all the trucks bringing in groceries/gas, etc)?
This will kill a bunch of people, like the Spanish flu, however it will bankrupt more.
Woot!! Should we bring PDX with us though?

I think so, but I'm biased. The part of Oregon west of the Cascades, maybe.
My parents honeymooned in Victoria.I wish they had fallen in love with it and moved there.

If you want to be a blue/progressive state/country, you'll keep the large urban areas. If you want to be a red state, why not just stay in the U.S. then because it surely is - the red and the orange.

Got off the phone with my Cousin Astrid in Vienna awhile ago. It seems that Austria is under a more restrictive lockdown than I will be starting at 5 PM today in Arizona. Rob

The PNW is politically divided by the Cascades. Progressive west of the mountains, conservative in the eastern, rural parts. Generally speaking.

Well, the current data shows that the Stay at Home order in California is indeed working, so it certainly should be considered for other areas as well.

For sure. The East wants t join Idaho. And northern Idaho wants to break off and join Montana. The domino effect to create Red states could be massive!
Well Idaho is a Red state but the capital of Boise is dominantly Blue with some Blue scattered around all communities.
IL's stay at home order was just extended to 4/30.

IL's stay at home order was just extended to 4/30.Tradd, you asked me yesterday how long the lockdown in Arizona will be. Today Governor Ducey offered the same date - April 30th, with a political get out of jail card attached by adding that the date could end out being extended. How's your lockdown going? Sorry about your job loss, btw.....you come across as someone who gives their all at work and takes their job seriously. Rob

Thanks, Rob! The IL gov said it could possible end earlier as well, if possible.
Mine is going OK. Had a call yesterday with a recruiter about a global trade analyst position. Went well. They're setting up a phone interview with the company for me. Finished resume today and sent it off. Got my last paycheck from old company today. It was about $800 more than I expected. I was able to cover all my bills, including rent and car payment, through the end of May. I went ahead and paid everything ahead. Glad to have that taken care of. Have a tidy sum left and that will allow me to dive at the local quarry in May, if it reopens then. Waiting for unemployment packet (applied online last Thursday) and just spending a lot of time reading and staying in touch with friends.
How are you doing?

How are you doing?Sorry it's taken me a bit to reply, Tradd. I am doing OK overall - and very grateful that I've saved money since being promoted. I've just been furloughed and am wondering in regards to the long term viability of the conference/convention industry going forward.
Good luck to you as you pursue this new position! I myself am thinking of attempting a switch to a low level supervisor job in the grocery biz. I'm thinking hospitality in general will not be the same biz that I have known going forward.
Bills on the process of being paid for April and the money is there to pay them. For once I find myself in a position in life that others might want to be in - low overhead and some money saved. For once in my life, I truly can not complain.
Let's all hang in there and get to the other side of this! Rob
