Our county hazardous waste folks are starting back their first Saturday of the month drop off tomorrow morning. We cleaned out our garage in March right before the shut-down, so we've have a corner full of old paint cans, etc., that I've had to look at since then. We will be there at opening time of 9:00 to drop off our pile of hazardous waste.

Wow, Beckyliz, that is awesome. I so wish they'd do that here, and I could get rid of paint.

I am running out of things to paint with old paint.

I sold a violin and shipped it off today!

If you pour paint on newspapers and leave it outside it dries out and you can throw it away.

I don't know if they all do it, but Sherwin Williams stores will take old cans of paint. We are considering selling our house later this summer so this month's purge is all the various landscaping supplies in the backyard - bricks, pavers, rocks, mulch etc that is left over from various projects. I am trying to use it "creatively" in various areas just to get rid of it. Today, I am constructing a drain garden beneath a gutter spout which willl use up lots of rocks.

Thanks, Terry, great tip.
The drain garden sounds cool, pinkytoe.

Yesterday I drove my mom’s 1940’s swimsuit around town, looking for an open vintage clothing store where I could donate it. No luck, they are still closed due to .covid19 regulation. I will try later in the month.

here it is in all of its pert striped glory:

2 cookie jars that I have been trying to sell and I am over the effort.

My kids may be moving into a one bedroom apartment and if they do I will take their twin bed for my office and give away the double. It will give me more room. Normally I would sell it but with the virus will give it away. I will ask my neighbor first because money is tight and they have taken everything I have offered.

I found three old cans of peaches in the back of a kitchen cabinet and I am eating them up. That's one way to declutter!

Continued with the old shed clean-out and have, once again, almost filled our garbage can. Have a couple of things to take pictures of to list for sale, so hopefully they will go quickly.

Was going to put our jacuzzi tub that has been sitting in the garage for 7 years on Craigslist. Yesterday we dug it out and unwrapped it and found mice had eaten teh blankets covering it and nested--so purged 3 tarps and 2 blankets, and thoroughly sanitized and cleaned the jacuzzi, and it looks wonderful and we are keeping it. But if we had not decided to sell it, we would not have dealt with it, and now it's dealt with.

Teacher Terry

Tybee, our climate is perfect for the tubs as we can use it year round. It’s most enjoyable in winter.

I am trying to purge some books but DH refuses to let go of his 1980s new age books that haven't been touched in years. There is a stack of them about three feet high. Ugh...not worth an argument so I guess I'll box them up.

Just sold three more out-of-the-shed items!!! YAY!

6-10-20, 12:50pm
Tossed a small power-washer that had all of its tubes and wires gnawed by mice and chipmunks. And we donated an old car which will be picked up today, decluttering the drive. Have two large bags of items in the car, ready to go to Goodwill on the next trip out, as they have reopened here.

6-19-20, 6:22pm
more to the curb and gone--a very cool hipster metal and plywood chair (since it was part of a pair and the other one looks great and I don't feel like fixing the other,) three parson's tables, a bookcase with annoying back that got wet and needs to be replaced, from Target, and three planter pots.

Wow Tybee, you are getting rid of some big stuff! Must be making an impact.

Well, it's a start. And I am taking a closer look at stuff and saying, do I really want this project, or do I want someone else to undertake it? My problem is husband wants to have a yard sale to make money and I just want to get it all gone right now, instead of having a big lump of garage sale stuff clogging up the place.

We are clearing an area behind the house. It had been a dumping ground, but with the new window that went in with mini split, we’ve been looking at it, where we hadn’t. So, it’s being cleaned up. The old trash is mostly gone from there, logs that we were going to split, a bench, part of the old cold frame, etc. it’s been raked. When all the junk is gone, one large pile remains, and after we’ve leveled it, we’ll put gravel down and move the lawn chairs we're keeping there too. Maybe, eventually, we’ll put down flagstones and make it a sort of informal patio.

So, part of our monthly purge is the other lawn chairs, the leaves, rot wood, asst. metal stuff, etc. that had been piled there.

also, I sold a table and some books. And donated 1.5 boxes of books too.

I got sick of garage sales after helping my friends that were downsizing have 3. Now I either sell stuff online or give it away. The last one was 6 years ago and that friend has asked me numerous times to help them again to which I say no way!

I've been to too many to want to have one myself, haha.

yesterday we put out an Eastlake bed that had a crack in it, a wooden bookcase, and a very cool but distorted old wooden mirror. Also some wood and metal rails DH got from barn--all the furniture gone but the wood still out there.

I told him to put all of the wood in one place and put an ad on Craigslist for someone to come get all of it as a lot of people burn in those outside wood burners around here. He has a woodshed full of wood and we don't have a woodstove here.

I’m having such a hard time with a particular object. It stops me in my tracks in life when I run into something like this, One that I cannot make a decision on. It is vintage, could be expensive I don’t really know, it’s sentimental, it’s a beautiful thing that I will not move to Hermann and I don’t now use. UGG.

Really, just when I think that I have a good handle on the physical objects in my life and I know what to do with them and I can let the sentimental stuff go or at least pack it up tightly in a way that it takes up a tiny bit of space – I run into this.

Oh I didn’t know if anyone actually cared. OK here it is, a vintage Chinese robe, all silk. I don’t hang it up and display it because— Oh I don’t know some reasons, too much trouble not really my decor especially current Decour, pet odors and pet hairs will cling to it and it’s not washable, etc. But I do love it because I love eastern textiles.

My old boyfriend bought it for me 30+ years ago, so it brings back memories of a magical surprise and a magical Santa Fe trip. Really, tho, I can keep those memories with a photograph.

I have a plan for offloading stuff that has some obvious value, and in the next year I want to sell it carefully while keeping a tally, and donate those proceeds to our Park Conservancy. I don’t know if I should go to a vintage shop of just regular clothes and they won’t really pay me anything for it, or I should try harder to find a vendor that seeks antique Chinese robes. I poked around on eBay to find out who is selling vintage Chinese robes. I don’t know how to contact those shops outside of eBay.

The antique sales website “1st Dibs” has a similar robe listed for $1300, but my experience with 1st Dibs it is that their prices are hugely inflated, at least on the Chinese pottery I have seen there.

Very pretty! I can see why it is a tough call.

Not sure if tried this or not, but if you can find the shop name on ebay, you can always then try googling it outside of ebay.

As part of the "old" shed clean-out, I had found several pieces of sports equipment that actually belonged to the local recreation organization. Had a hard time finding a contact to return the stuff to, so went to one of the fields and dropped it all off into the equipment box! Easy-peasy! 4 items gone!

IL, not sure if it would help, but I once found something on a men's coat I had bought for the wool and I saw it had a lapel button. I researched it and found someone who was an expert on lapel buttons and I emailed him and sent him a picture and he bought it for 15 dollars. (Not bad considering coat cost six!)

Maybe you could contact someone who sells them.

Had a garage sale with a friend Saturday from about 8-1. Got rid of 25 (?) pieces of clothing, some exercise equipment, purses and household stuff. Made about $125. We may have another one at her house in October (she's got LOTS of STUFF). After that, whatever is left is donated. My goal is to go through my Christmas decorations and reduce down a couple of storage containers by selling at the October sale.

I am counting the removal of brush---trimming the azaleas that had gotten to 5 feet tall! They are now at a controlled height and there's a fine path between the shrubs and the house. We put the brush in the newly cleared brush pile in the garden ( a big job) so have a good place for the clippings to dry for later removal.

I took advantage of a truck going to take things to Navajo nation to add in 2 glass gallon bottles (I'm too old/weak to handle the gallon size anymore) and a bunch of bar soap. I also gave shoes my feet have gotten too big/mishapen for to Pete's Place--for unhoused people.
